I'm so happy to watch your review! Not a lot of people knew about this short story. Still hoping the author expands on it.

Thanks again for recommending it! The story and the collections don’t have a lot of ratings so I think you are correct that it’s not widely known. Definitely a cool little addition to the series!

Oh I really need to add this to my list after I read the Endymion duology.

It’s nice to have when you’re craving a little more of the Hyperion universe!

I knew it existed but haven't read it. Might save it for a re-read of the Cantos.

That sounds like a good plan!

It was originally a treatment for an episode of Star Trek Voyager that was never filmed. Dan addressed the topic on his website about twenty years ago.The website’s not active anymore so you’ll have to faith about that statements authenticity.

He writes about that in this book, it’s pretty interesting!

So this story was originally a Star Trek add on but he switched it over to Hyperion?

Thank You -- I had just finished the Hyperion Cantos and had a somewhat befuddled mood concerning the ending so will be seeking out the Horizons book (which has a number of my authors that I enjoy) and will let you know what I think after I have read it. Keep up the good worki

Thanks! It’s more of a little bonus than anything that completely changes the series, but I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you for posting this! I just finished the fourth book like an hour ago, and I still have some questions. Hopefully this novela clears things up.

You’re welcome Jerry! It doesn’t answer a lot of things but it does give you a couple of hints right at the end. I hope you enjoy it!

I always say that in order to understand and fully appreciate Hyperion, you have to read the four books and the short novella. I think Orphans solves a couple of doubts or gaps in the main story.

That’s awesome, I’m glad you enjoyed and appreciated them all as much as I did!

That book of Simmons short stories had 2 really good ones in it which I remember vividly (the insectoid mountain climbing-K2 and the “cat and mouse game with a young woman”) and the collection is worth buying, but I remember nothing of the Hyperion related story and for me the 4th book ends the story.

Agreed! I’m glad I read it but when I think of “The Hyperion Cantos” I think of the 4 books.

I have the Far Horizons collection, the Kress and Brin stories are really good too.
