I can’t explain it without sounding like an idiot. Jenever. Yuh nay fur. I think Genever as you pronounce it is fine as an English adaptation.
I can actually make this guy when I rotate my sweet vermouth back in... right in time to also try the Hanky Panky that made me buy Fernet Branca!

My first introduction to jenever was via kopstootje on a trip to the Netherlands. I like the spirit and brought a bottle home to share with friends. I never had a chance to share this last year for obvious reasons. I saw your view and tried one today. I love this cocktail. It surprised me with how delicious it is. Thank-you.

I got some information about pronunciation of "jenever" and it is kind of "Ye - nay- fer" (you can listen to it on Wikipedia too :- ) I've read somewhere that "genever" it would be just a different way to write it, taken from and ancient version of dutch...but i think it is actually just the english way of saying that word! Anyway, i absolutely fell in love with this spirit, it is so adaptable, for example i made a great drink mixing it together with mint and basil, it worked so good because it matches with floral notes like gin does and just herbaceous ones like whisky does...it is a perfect mix of the two of those. Simply amazing!! Finally, i have to say that i use Old Tom gin in the Martinez and not jenever...ahahahah, but i think probably both versions are good!
