1) Autodesk Maya: for 3d Modeling
2) Adobe Aftereffect; For Compositing and video and voice eddting.
3) Adobe Photo shop: For creating diagrams, illustration and photo editing
4) Microsoft Paint and Picture manager to edit images quickly
these softwares are quit popular you can google it.

I have heard form some one, these days manufactures are using new type of material for transformer core instead of silicon steel which is similar to the material use in heating coil of electric iron. But haven't seen it.
but I believe in case of motor no other material can replace steel (Silicon steel) because it mechanical strength is also required.
