Spin Top Trick Ladder for Contests

- This is a video demonstrating the tricks often found in spin top contest "ladders" (list of progressively harder tricks). This ladder is similar to the National Spin Top Contest trick ladder but has fewer tricks at the advanced levels. Below is the written list with the time it appears in the video.

This brings back fond memories. Used to go hard with these as a kid. Most entertaining time sink in the world. Can't help but wanna try again

I see that you make the larger ones that great!! Do you sell the bigger ones? And for a beginner would you say it would be best to start with a normal size one?
Joe Parnell Yes, smaller tops are great to start with (and continue with), larger tops are better for regenration tricks and better visibility for your audience.
I have a question, I was wondering where I can find tutorials for all of these tricks mostly like how to properly do the wire walker or the crazy 8. I cant find tutorials so I thought I would ask you since your super good at this.

Ok Thank you so much! Ever since I got this 5 daya ago I have been beating up my hands to the max! But after 3 blisters and tiny pokes in my palm I got down big scoop, sky rocket, and boomerang in such a short time! I've learned that I cant put it down either! hey is there any chance you might make a video explaining just exactly how a drumbeat or joker choker can regenerate spin??? ive never been able to figure that out and consequently ive never been successful in regenerating spin. so far i cant find anyone explaining proper technique and theory. thx

This is the newer, friendlier version of the ladder. Less fail more awesome!
And the second issue: when performing the spinner I have a 10 to 10 rate of achieving a good strong spinning. BUT I can never succeed in having a straight up spinning top. No matter which top or how carefully thrown, it always leans, thus giving me a hard time in scoop and other next-to-spinner tricks. I d appreciated a full detailed mastering of the situation, please!

Where buy in store tops
All the spin tops or trompos I've seen are small. Where did you find that large one that doesn't even fit in the palm of your hand? Do the larger ones have a special name? I once saw a Chinese demonstrations with spin toys that were later revealed to be diabolos. That demonstration included large tops much like this one and some other diabolos that were not the same on both sides they looked a lot like tops but stayed on the string and two sticks and spun very fast.
I made the larger ones out of plywood on a lathe :D check out itopspin.com for more info

I 'd say you are a professor of spinning! But, as mush as you are advanced, well wayyyyyy advanced (!), please, don't forget those commoners called "beginners"! Take the spinner... for you is nothing, is just nothing... But for some miserables out there, it is like climbing the mount Everest... For their sake... please, a video with FULL DETAILS: not only how to wire (there are more than plenty on this...) but how to throw also. HOW TO THROW! In all iny tiny whinnie details! Who knows? you may change someone's life...
Now that is a proper request! Daddy duty has me pretty darn busy these days, but I will do my best to get the ball rolling!

There are three or four different spin tops in this video, the bigger ones I made, and they are 4 inch diametee. The tip is made out of a steel bolt and HDPE

Hello Chris. 2 issues in need of your valuable opinion: 1. I live in Greece. I ordered a D. bearing king from mr X in USA. Mr X sent me the top very badly wrapped in a squeezed carton box. Result: the top was damaged. Not destroyed but "wounded". Mr X's professional reaction: he doubts my reason for the damaged top, one that supposed to be an excellent piece in my small collection. Now must I or must I not expose who s the "Professional of all Professionals" in order to protect others also?

The arm walker got me wondering, what if you replaced the point of the top with a ball point?
that would probably make it easier and more fun actually. Ball point tops have been sone before but not since the 50's I think.

Fernando Romão I only make fixed tip tops. Bearing tips do not interest me as much. Big tops are good for regenerations, more fun on the strin than in the hand

why does it stick to the string?
There is a groove at the tip that the string rides in. Sometimes it's very hard to keep it on the string, sometimes it's hard to get it off the string also LOL
