  • 'Prisoner' is taken from "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981", OUT NOW via Silver Lining Music and available at: smarturl.it/Do...
It wasn’t always multi-platinum sales and stadium gigs for Dokken. There was a first-phase and there were early days, and it is those bold first steps to stardom which are celebrated comprehensively on Dokken’s The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 album, out on August 28th 2020 through Silver Lining Music.
Featuring spectacular sleeve art by renowned US artist Tokyo Hiro (Motörhead, Motley Crüe), The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 show the crackle and craft of a hungry young Don Dokken as he embarked upon a journey which started in Southern California and Northern Germany. It is a trek which is testimony to the sheer endeavor and perseverance Don Dokken showed in those few years between 1978 and 1981, starting from when he spent time at a guitar store called Drake’s Music, owned by Drake Levin in Manhattan Beach, California.
A fair selection of the treasure on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are from these early European days. “Felony” carries a thuggish fuzz-coated riff think early Van Halen in really greasy embroidered denims while “Day After Day” showed that Don could pen a radio-slaying ballad. The writing and creation of The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are further tribute to enduring early days of struggle in both Germany and LA., Don would return to LA for a spell after those brief European gigs, and he worked with Croucier on material, including perhaps the truest view of Dokken’s then-future “Hit and Run”, which incredibly did not end up on the eventual Breaking The Chains release. From the sunbaked SoCal hook of “Step Into The Light” to the furious, fledgling, late-Sunset Strip sound of “Back In The Streets,” The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 shows Don in his unfettered early days of balls-out attitude, qualities doubtless forged in the sheer nature of the adventures undertaken in writing, recording and deciding Europe was the place to keep cutting his teeth.
The Lost Songs: 1979-1981 not only shares that magic with the fans, it gives them the final, vital and undeniably missing (until now) early album in the Dokken collection.
Musicians who appear on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981

I always thought it was early Lynch. Little I knew. Bought the Back in the streets Lp, looking for lynch face there.. But as listening to this now, I think Don influenced Lynch's style in Dokken band, cause I really thought Lynch is doing solo here.

There are two version of this song. This one is called Going Under. The other one is Goin' Down on live 1981. Same riff but different lyrics. Prisoner break into two different songs. One is on Back for the Attack and the other is on Dokken Lost songs 1978 - 1981. Both are called Prisoner but are total different songs. On the Lost songs, Don is the lead guitarist. For trivia, he was the first lead till George came into the picture.

This one is bad ass. Don on lead vocals and guitar. I love the aggressive grind of guitar this one has. I love the fact, you kept your extended solo on the track. It proves once again your talent.

I have followed this band since, Breaking the Chains. I have saw them live, more than once. There music inspired through life, whether I was up or down. They are family more that some who biologically say they are family.

    It wasn't just your innocence
    No, it wasn't temptation
It was just your own way
Of placing the blame on me
Stop thinking that it's all in vain
You keep trading your love for pain
    Someday an answer will come
'Cause there ain't no way to escape
    Baby I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    It's so easy to see
    I can never be free
    I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    The answer for your loneliness
    Is only frustration
So you gave it all away
By placing the blame on me
Remember how it used to be
Your lies won't die that easily
    Something's wrong
    Why can't you see
There ain't no way to escape
    Baby I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    It's so easy to see
    I can never be free
    I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    Chained by love
    It's so easy to see
    I can never be free
    I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    Hold my heart in misery
    'Cause I'm a prisoner
Did my time so let me be
    Let me go
    You're holding me
Someday an answer will come, your way
    Something's wrong
    Why can't you see
That there ain't no way to escape
    Escape
    Baby I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    It's so easy to see
    I can never be free
    I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    Chained by love
    It's so easy to see
    I can never be free
    I'm a prisoner
    Chained by love
    Chained by love

Said many times and meant each time I said it but I s extremely hard to walk away from people you love however to allow the most awful treatment I ever exsperieced would do more harm than disowning would.
