I don't use amps to record my bass covers. All you hear is the bass direct to the M-Audio Fast Track audio interface. No extra EQ, just both pickups at max volume and tone at max too. Anyways the amp in the background is an Epifani UL-501 with a EBS 1x10" NEO. Thanks dude!
In all my covers I try to nail the original bass line, I'm not playing my own view, and I try to nail them sound wise and note wise. I've choose my 77 because it's the one that sounds more similar to flea's 61 JB.
You're the second guy that said this... Flea don't play that "EGE" fill after the first chorus, it's only the guitar. You can check the original recording and watch some live versions of the song and you'll notice! Anyways, you have a very good ear!! ;) thank you!!!!
Watch out! A '70's era J has its bridge PU placed more closely to the bridge, giving it more bite! Modern Fender J standards have them in the 60's position. Exceptions are the Geddy Lee and Marcus Miller Signature and the reissue models of 70's era basses.
I suppose you are referring to the E-G-E before the instrumental part after the first chorus. I think Flea does not play this 3 notes. I think it's only the guitar... but I'm not 100% sure... Anyways, you have a good ear!!! ;)
Very nice and absolutely accurate cover. Just a question. Do you think that I'd be able to get such tone with a Fender Precision Bass? Also, watch out for your fifth fret, second string(D note). It sounds a bit out of tune.
wow very good cover :D How did you make that...something like a slapping tone? Just a hard fingering? or an effect? oh..right you said you didn't use anything lol!
I know.. but a cover is usually your view of it, and you'll never be able to truly recreate is. you'd need to get his fender '60 Jazz bass, his exact tone, volume all that. Just saying. It wouldn't be that much of a deal if you did it on the modulus. Good cover anywayz :P
Fender Jazz basses are king, Brilliant cover and sound :D
That tone...wow
I always like that fender tone

because Flea recorded this one with his Fender Jazz Bass!! The sound of the album version is pure JB sound dude! ;)
Steel or nickel strings?
great sound your bass
This must be the best cover of the song on youtube, the bass even sounds almost like in the song. Good work!
That is a ROCKIN bass growl man, love it!
Fender ...muito bom..parabens ...lindo som!
I was waiting for that fill in the solo and you nailed it! Nice job
I never record my bass covers with an amp. The bass goes directly to my M-Audio Fast Track audio interface. All you hear is the bass itself.
That was simply amazing
Clear tone and rhythm.Good job. Good luck!

Amazing tone you have here, I'm going to check your other covers :)
I'd say Yamaha TRBX 504, Ibanez SR500 or Fender Mexico Jazz Bass
Beautiful bass and great cover!
with my fingers! haha
...and a good 70's Fender Jazz Bass of course! ;)
Las pastillas son originales o las has cambiado?
Sonidazo!!
A ver si subes un tutorial de double thumb que necesito uno que no me sale bien del todo.
You can also look for some Squier Vintage Modified, they're cheaper then the mexicans and good as well.
But this version is not exactly the same bass line that Flea recorded. David played his own fills on it.
