Nice job! I have a 1980 450SL and I have one of those to rebuild sometime as well. I like your Baltimore Crabby shirt! I lived in Baltimore for 40 years, just moved out Westminster area a year ago. I used to cruise around Loch Raven. Trying to get used to the area out here. Lol

Sorry so late but have you checked the mercedes forums (www.benzworld.org/forums)? There is a lot of good info on there, that's usually where I start on issues like that. I'm not even sure where to start on that. You might want to see if the cold start injector is working. It's a ninth injector that's supposed to inject a little fuel in the intake to assist in starting.

John "Big Nasty" Spinela! Never thought you would be doing TH-cam stuff. Very cool!

Hello - is there anyway you could post a photo or short video showing the location of the AAV - or give details of how you removed it. I cannot locate this part on the 280SL and am thinking that maybe the location is in a different place. Mike

Great video John, thanks for the tip. My idle is doing the same thing so I see this repair /maintenance in my future. By the way, you likely know this but the 75 tends to run hot due to the location of the catalytic converters. The plastic cam oil guides/tubes tend to fail burning up the engine. Fairly easy fix if you catch it early. Also it's an inexpensive repair at around 50.00.

william howard I know about the cats, mine have been gutted but had to rewire everything because heat made wiring insulation brittle.

John Spinella - looking to do my Cats as well, did you break up the ceramic in the cat or can you suggest a method, very annoying they put them under the manifolds.

william howard They were already done when I got the car but from what I’ve heard, busting up the ceramic and shaking it out is how its done.

I just bought a 1974 MB 450sl V8 and have to promptly replace the positive battery cable - I'm having issues finding anyone who has done a video on this to give me some visual pointers! any thoughts?

Ill take a look at mine tomorrow and see if I can come up with something. I don’t think its that difficult, remove battery, remove battery enclosure. Then finding where the cable connects under the car to the cable that goes to the front. Let me see if I can help.

So, I did take a look and it might be a little more complicated than I thought. The cable runs down, out of the plastic battery holder and then travels across the back of the trunk to the drivers side. You'll need to completely remove that back metal panel that hides the fuel tank and then follow the cable to where it connects to the cable that goes to the front of the car. But, i'm not 100% sure since i've not traced the cable myself. I would start by removing the battery and the plastic enclosure, remove the metal plate that covers the fuel tank and then follow the positive battery cable and see where it takes you.
