I think that between this Video and the videos of Nat Cole with his Trio, one could really put together a fairly Formidable Technique. I really dig the "Trumpet Style" reference. I've been learning some basic Bugle Calls. Just 4 Notes: F, Bb, D and F Taking them to the Relative Minor: D, G, Bb, D. Then playing them in the Different Inversions. In both Major and Minor. If you take that to the Next Level and learn the Dim, Dom 7th and then the 9th, 13th & 11th versions, you practically have all your Voicings. All you have to learn after that are the Altered Chords. It's really more Productive this way, starting with the 2nd inversion: Fifth on the Bottom, because that is where the Harmonic Series really Starts. An Octave in the Bass, say C, and then a 2nd Inversion on Top: G, C, E & G. It's really a Four Note Triad, a Four Note Bugle Call, which is a Four Note Voicing on the Piano. Add to that, 10ths in the Bass and you got a Whole Orchestra.
