I went to FC Porto 0-1 Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Europa League last 16 at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal.
A single goal from Lucas Paquetá was enough to give the French side the win at a rainy Porto in this European clash! THREE HUGE VAR decisions went against Porto in a game that could've been very different!

Its sad. I have the anual seat in Dragão. This hour 17:45 is awful since we work tipically 'till 18:00 here in Portugal which makes practically impossible to watch these games, something that UEFA could take more in consideration however I understand that they do not want to loose viewers from their main competition the UCL. Thankfully I took the afternoon this day and was able to go and see the game in the stadium. I think the draw would be a fair result. In my personal point of view, the team is feeling the lack of Diaz brilliancy however this night was particularly off. More than usual. Even one of our selling points which is possession and high pressing when loosing the ball was meh. This Lyon team with all due respect is in reach of Porto even on the away game but playing like this I think the focus will be on the league. Mbemba's goal was properly dissalowed. In my view, the penalty VAR decision was wrong, it was a penalty for me.
I can understand your feeling about the penalty but the rules are the rules and they are not in the game for nothing... Rules say no penalty, so referee must not give penalty
U.E.F.A only care about money when they put a game on at 17.45 they do so for the North American T.V market it's all about revenue now.
Porto needs a 4.3-3 against the big teams
Porto should sign Paulo Fonseca.
@@josevieira2200 Paulo Fonseca is a real shit
It doesnt use to rain that much in Portugal mate…Hope to see you soon on a sunny day inside a proper full Dragão 🐉🙏💙
I definitely need to come back in the summer! Obrigado
@@FootyAdventures You definitely need to mate, love your videos!
@@FootyAdventures man you are unlucky, it was like the only week that rained in Portugal
I watched this to see how portos atmosphere compared to ibrox 😂
Porto is used to play in ucl. When they play in uel the stadium is never full. And the rain helped a lot.
the stadium was a little bit empy because of the hour of the game (17:45 too soon, people in Porto are hardwork people and at that hour the majority is still working) and of course the rain didnt help too! You really need to comeback again and see a league game at the weekend,or of course the second leg with sporting lisbon for taça de Portugal!
Não é só a malta do Porto que é trabalhadora😅. Em Lisboa e em muitos outros sítios a malta também está a trabalhar às 18
Sporting Lisbon é o caralho oh morcommm
@@tiagopereira9000 O jogo foi no Porto, normal ele falar sobre o Porto.
Live in the US but I'm a citizen of Portugal. My Dad is from Porto, so its great to see you traveling to my favorite city. My favorite team and my favorite country. Subscribed and downloaded the APP for the support! Plus watched the full length of the ADs and engaged them for that AD sense. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
I think the day of this match was the first time it properly rained here in 2022 😅 Thanks for all the content in Portugal, keep up the great footy videos! 🤘
Some noise for that attendance! Still impressive, can only imagine the place full. So nice to see you enjoying life Sam🤝
Nice video. The stadium was very empty because of the rain and because it was a week day. Also Porto fans are still a bit disappointed by being on Europa league because they normally are in Champions league and are no happy when they miss it
I'm Portuguese-Belgian and discovered your channel quite recently. It's amazing! I really enjoyed these serie in portuguese stadiums. I hope one day you'll do some videos in Belgium, specially in my favourite club: Union Saint-Gilloise! We're doing great this year. We have a small old-style stadium but the climax is wonderful. You must come here someday. And as in a couple of years we'll have a new stadium (probably), we need to enjoy it when it's still here!!
Another great video mate 👍 I don't think the problem was the weather, but the start time for the game, 17.45 in Portugal is ridiculous! In Portugal people usually start work later than in other european countries, so at 17.45 most are still at work and can't leave early to go watch a football match on a Wednesday...
Oh right yeah good point!! Weird seeing a European game so early to be fair. Thanks for watching again mate
@@FootyAdventures yeah, all about tv rights as usual, they don't want many games at the same hour so they just disperse them to different hours but that screws with the attendance to the earlier games. I'm sure in Braga today the stadium will be almost full.
@@jorgestravels our midweek games in england tend to be 19 30 or 19 45
@@samuelpinder1215 in Portugal they are usually after 20.
@@jorgestravels I remember when I went to portugal and the games were on quite late. I guess it's to avoid the heat in the daytime. We do have some 20 kick offs in England but is more commonly 19 45
"I'm glad to be here again". This is the enthusiasm that makes you a cut above all other football vloggers 😅😅
The stadium was half empty because the match was played during working hours.
I’ve been over to the Dragao twice once to see Northern Ireland/Portugal and the other Liverpool/Porto, each time it has been torrential rain so must be a theme in Porto.
On Porto, it is. It is usually cloudy. But for example, in Lisbon and also in Portugal's southside in general, it's an entirely different manner.
Loving the Portuguese tour, liked and downloaded fotmob from link, keep on keeping on 🇵🇹⚽️💙⚪
Congrats for your content, it's really something else. As you say, "leaving the dream".
People actually work in the north side of portugal, adding the rain at the early match we got a weak audience. Hope you got a proper match and a full stadium next time you come to Dragão.
You got a subscriber, for sure!!
Brilliant video mate! Downloaded that App through the link, keep up the great content!
Absolute legend max thank you so much!!!
I’m glad it livened up in the second half for you 👍🏼⚽️
Mate, one piece of advice, take the train up from lisbon to the north. The bus trips are an absolute nightmare xD
I’ve been bing watching your videos and Im glad you enjoyed Braga. hope to see you again here. Abraço
Great video. Watched the second half of this match on BT Sport. Sounded like the crowd were making a lot of noise even though the stadium was only half full. Porto will feel robbed by VAR as they definitely should have had a penalty for the handball by the Lyon defender, the Porto player was in an offside position (even though it came off the other Lyon defender's head so it wasn't offside). The very late equaliser in injury time was rightly disallowed in my view but the earlier penalty VAR decision was wrong.
Did you manage to see any of the Man City v Sporting Lisbon on telly after this match?
Clearly not robbed , no penalty because it was not intentional , it goes on his body and it bounces back in his hand very fast accidently
@@Alexgg63 that's not what the BT commentators said that the VAR decision was looking at. They said they were looking at the Porto player being offside or not.
@@pauldonaldson6067 maybe he was offside but even if he was not offside still no penalty
Loving your travels in Portugal like you I'm a big fan all things football. .
I just love the game in general and to see all these different teams is bucket list material. Braga tonight too 😍
Great video, thanks!
This type of games usually get really nice stadium capacity in Dragão. If the game was at 8 pm, for sure the stadium would have been almost full.
But at 5.45pm, everyone is still at work.
Never mind the rain in Portugal, it was great to watch you at a sunny 😎 Dens Park this weekend.
In my opinion, despite the horrible weather, the main reason for the stadium had so few people attending to the match, was related with the game's schedule. Was too early for a working day. Most fans were working at that time.
Keep up the fine work, brother! I love your videos! :)
I Luv yours vlogs, keep showing us this amazing work! OBRIGADO
I thought you'd be at that game. 😊 I watched it on TV and the VAR decisions were spot on. Only controversial if you don't know the rules. Anyway, your portoguese videos have been very interesting and I hope that you'll be able to do similar stuff in the future.
On BT Sport the were saying the penalty was chopped off, not because it wasn't a handball, but because a Porto player was offside. I can't understand why because the Lyon defender was the last one to touch the ball.
I was at the stadium however that handball was a no brainer, I don’t know the referee called it off
@@GabrielFerreira-ib5nc Because the ball touched another part of his body before it hit his arm. Silly but those are the rules.
@@WhiteHartDane it bounced on the floor to his hand nobody touched it
Lisbon and porto create insane atmospheres in their stadium

Another cool video. You ought to have caught the High Speed Train from Oriente mate, better than the bus and cheap if booked in advance.Lovin these Portugal visa.
Videos..
Im português from Sporting good luck
You should really have some company for these videos, if you come to watch porto again and you pay for the ticket i'll go with you 😂
Great video.

Great video
When do you come back to Scotland
Thank you!! I'll be back in a week or two :)
@@FootyAdventures getting a whole two week break in Portugal?
Hi, I'm Portuguese and I started watching your videos since you arrived in Portugal. You have to go to see a game at Estádio da Luz, listen to our beautiful anthem and see our eagle "Vitória" flying over the stadium, it's just beautiful. Note: after the game, go to the side of the Colombo shopping center to enter the tunnel of "Luz"
É túnel da luz, não túnel of "luz"
Get it right
I want to visit Estadio do Bessa, the home of Boavista FC. Beautiful stadium, a club who have a been through the mill (like my club Luton Town), a shame you missed the Boavista v Braga match last weekend.
Muito bom seu português, hein!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
the stadium is empty due to the hour of the game too usually portuguese get out of work at 5pm and with the traffic and confusion of the city is almost Impossible to be there in time.
Actually, i think the schedule is more to blame than the weather. Way too early for a mid week game (lots of people working)

I remember Portugal VS Scotland in Braga in 2002 & the rain was worse than it was on this particular vlog
I remember The Commentator saying I that the Portuguese call
The North of Portugal The Toilet of Portugal because it rains so much in particular in The North of Portugal.
The Wetest game I have ever been to was Rangers VS Dundee United at Ibrox Stadium it was Walter Smith's R.I.P first game back as manager & the rain was harendus & the wind was absolutely swirling like mental I actually felt sorry for the players out on the pitch it was absolutely brutally wet that day.
Keep Safe Sam.
Sorry you got to see an empty Dragão and sorry you got to witness that robbery. Here in Portugal we usually work until 6pm. I'm a season ticket holder and I only left work at 6:30pm, so I only got to watch the final minutes of the game at home. Hope you come to a European game at 8pm (assuming we beat Lyon, which for Porto is perfectly achievable) or a weekend game. Usually the stadium's full on those games.
Wasn’t expecting that porto lost man… I think no one was
From France I'm following Lyon and Porto and for me it was 50/50%, both team are great, Lyon just had a lot of injuries that broke the dynamic but dont trust their rank they are playing agaisnt biggest team in Europe and winning since 20 years now lol you should always expect Lyon to be hard opponent maybe more than Paris imo...
@@JRRR34 well, here in Portugal no one considers Lyon a really tough opponent, we respect Lyon but believe our teams have to win when they play Lyon, and Porto is having a great season
@@DomCarlosI yes but Porto plays in a league where they have no opponent when in France every team can beat psg with Messi Neymar Mbappe...
@@DomCarlosI then deserved because Lyon > all portuguese teams
@@JRRR34 1st of all PSG is shit. 2nd of all, what do you consider Benfica, Sporting and Braga to be?
Are binoculars an option to hire once Inside? 😂🤣
Can't wait to see you in Lyon
From sunny Lisbon to rainy Porto.
You should go check out Braga’s stadium, one side is a rock façade
Great video Sam! Shame about the weather. Downloaded the FotMob app, liking the look of it!
Love these vids
Your going back to cold weather TH-cam videos great video again enjoyed 🚜🚜🚜🚜
you should travel do Braga today, major game, the atmosphere will be great. Also, a vitória guimarães home game is a great experience. portugal has a lot to offer aside form the big 3. trust me.
Hello. I just want to tell you that for the travel Lisboa - Porto or Porto - Lisboa, it is better to go by train. You catch the train on the same station where you catched the bus
The stadium was empty because in Portugal people tend to end their jobs after 6pm…
Next time go by train m8
Great video like always
We played so bad today, hopefully we go at max force in lyon and we may go through, Lazio was a better team and we beaten them. lets go
12:20 TAVERNIER HAGI KEMAR ROOFE AND BASSEY...
Stadium is very nice. Just a shame about the small crowd.
The first day Rain on Portugal 2022.
That was probably the worst match you could've chose to watch FC Porto in the Dragon stadium, for three reasons: The hour of the match along with that weather + The competition (UEL) + Tired players doing the laziest match of the season so far...
At least you know the real best portuguese club and most successfull, since FC Porto has same ammount of trophies as Benfica in general (Around 80), but Porto alone has more international trophies than the whole portuguese and french league all together, that's seven (7) trophies, with 2 Champions League, which makes Porto one of the Top 10 Best European clubs.
Nice vlogs man, good job, I wish you a great stay in Porto. I'd suggest you visit some historic places and try the "Francesinha" before you go... ^^ Regards!
if we make it to the portuguese cup final you should come. I´m sure the weather and the atmosphere will be better
You were saying how the stadium was empty and you maybe thought it was because of the rain but I’ve watched a lot of Porto games and the stadium is always empty except from a few occasions
How can uefa mate a match at 17:45, we Work until 18 in Portugal
Hi brome , come to see us in the groupama stadium here in Lyon .
They are not many fans because the game start when people work .
Just wasn’t happening for Porto tonight, the second leg will be interesting!
What a shame that the stadium was so empty
Will you see the porto derby between boavista and porto next week ?
Always remember do your research Rangers died liquidated next time in Scotland. I’m not a Celtic fan either but I follow your page with respect but you have to accept every club in Scotland voted them out that tells you something. All the best and mind safe travels 🧡🏴
Will you be at the rangers game tonight mate
Como benfiquista sei muito bem como as equipas portuguesas são tratadas na liga europa. Boa sorte
Nah i think we are just used to terrible refs in PT that ruin every game, call everything a foul, so everyone dives and pressure the arbitro. In europe they don’t buy all the diving and antics. Less diving , more playing
Could you imagine the fans being allergic to rain in the UK 😂
17:45h it's very soon.
Come to Portugal again and please do a video about an also very historic club: Boavista FC. We were champions of Portugal and won 5 national cups, played in the champions league, reached the semi finals of the eruopa league againts celtic and then were relagated. Fotyunatly we are back in the firts divison since 2014!
Portugese teams are always robbed in Europe and the referee was Spanish so that says a lot
There was no penalty if you think that there is penalty you must read the rules
@@JRRR34 There was it deliberatly touched his arm, and the rules say when the ball touches the lower part of your arm its a penalty, so you are the one who needs to really check the rules
Não há fruta na UEFA
@@FranciscoCorreia10 the rule is more complicated have a look you will see that if it touch an other part of the body before there is not fault also its no deliberate at all we all saw it ^^ why would he send the ball on his hand deliberatly when he is technically over 99% football players
Be fair its not because you like a club that you have to take only the rules that goes in your way
@@JRRR34 Firstly im Benfica, so i dont even like Porto, im just calling as him seeing it was a clear pen, Portuguese teams are always robbed in Europe
Was in Porto last week with my English girlfriend for the first time in 2 years and the weather was rubbish I live in Leicester, the weather was better over here, guess I will have to go again in the summer lol. I reckon Porto will beat them in France, what do you think?
I’m liking cause you sung super John McGinn
Its empty because of the starting schedule of the match, people in Portugal usually work until 19h, at 17h45 midweek its impossible for most fans to go to the match, unless you have the day off or are unemployed/retired.. if the match started at 20h as usually does, the stadium would be close to full house
By the way, basicaly it hasnt rained for the last 4/5 months in Portugal, the country is in a serious drought problem. The week you come to Porto, the rain just doesnt stop, thats how unlucky you are 😅

The VAR didn't ruin anything. About the penalty, the ball touches Paqueta's leg before his arm, so no penalty...
