Oh my God so this is what happened to my hamster I came from school and my hamster is awake but he wasn't I found him and he was very still I thought he died but I was petting him and left him in a blanket then the next hour he was like you got any treats I was so happy thanks Victoria

That happened to my dwarf hamster before, I wasnt sure what was wrong with him so I put him on my neck and let him warm up using my body heat and he was good to go!

But yea I understand. That happened once to my hamster, Pichu. She randomly just fainted in my hands and was fine in a couple minutes

I have bought a heater to keep the hamster warm as it is freezing
I’ve invested $38 on electrical room heating just for my rodents 😂 I’ve converted to mice keeping now.
Did it work well for them? Do you recommend it to others ?
LittleWarriorWolf So far they are doing alright. They do let out a bit of odour but I think it’s because of the sudden diet change and scent marking for the new territory. I would recommend them to people if they suit their living conditions. :)
@@evieanimalsvlogs1495 I miss my mice, I had to get rid of them because they didn’t go well with my life style but luckily my friend had a sister who wanted some mice. They live happily with them now ❤️ mice are such wonderful pets.

I think my hamster is slowly changing his own sleeping schedule. Recently, he’s been sleeping in later and staying up longer. Is there a reason for his doing this?? He has a good size cage and plenty of things to do, but idk if this is ok.
this is totally normal. my hamster did this too, and it's probably just reacting to the elements of its environment. since hamsters are crepuscular (awake at dawn and dusk), they can have a pretty large change in their sleep schedules.
if your hamster seems off, however, i would suggest to go to a hamster forum and ask. usually on forums, someone else has asked these questions before, and many people have replied (so you don't just have to just take information from a single source).

Yes! temperatures, age, lighting can really all effect that as long as your hamster is still waking up at night and being active I wouldn't worry 😊

You should check out other hamster videos on this channel if you haven't already. Please make sure you provide at least the bare minimum for your hamster depending on the type (Dwarf or Syrian)
Nake sure to do proper research
The reptile mat is a great idea, but it is highly recommended that you use a thermostat (not a thermometer. They are different) to keep your mat from over heating. The channel Snake Discovery has some great videos on heating mats and thermostats if anyone is interested and wants to learn more.
I bought a reptile mat but then I found posts online saying they were dangerous for hamsters even with a thermostat, I'm so confused but I don't think I can return the mat ^^; I'm using a glass aquarium at the moment and don't have the ham yet, feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options.
When you live in Sicily and the normal winter temperature is 15° degrees Celsius (59°F),but you still watch these kind of videos just in case.
My hamster passed away the a couple weeks ago. She was a long haired Syrian named ❤Audrey❤ I miss her sooo much😭😢

I got my daughter a robo hamster and my family made fun of me for being so strict on how he is taken care of and treated but I have learned so much from you and I really appreciate you taking the time to educate on Hamsters and their care. I would definitely have to remember when I get my new hamsters this Wednesday so I will turn up the heater to 75°F and to make sure that my hamsters have a lot of warm bedding so they have a warm nest throughout the cold weather

I’m planning on moving my lil winter white into my room, as it is the most peaceful room in the house. However, I have the fan on 24/7, and when she’s in here for too long she shows signs of being cold. so this really helped! I’m going to get a heat pad right away

My hamster went into torpor when we had her in a colder room than what she is in right now! It made so much sense when she was more active upstairs! :)
I’m pretty sure my room is a good temperature..It’s always never too hot or cold👌🏻Queen. 😂 I will still make sure she is okay lol.

I agree, I dont want to walk to school anymore because its too cold. I started putting extra bedding and putting what ever I have for him. I started felling like the upstairs is colder so now I put him in the living room.

Also I have had my hamster for 2 months, I got it randomly after coming home from the gym and tought id buy the cage afterwards so I sent my mom to buy a cage because u didn't bring enough money, she bought a tiny ass cage and my ham stayed in that for 2 days until I bought a plastic bin that's 217 Sq inches 😢😢 but I will get a 540 sq inch bin in 2 weeks. I have been watching your videos and felt so terrible after finding out that this bin I have now is way too small and I have been noticing my hammie being stressed out. She doesn't let me handle her and launches at my hand and is very bitey and the past few days she has been even more restless. I'm just so freaking scared of something happening to her, she has lived in that bin for 2 months now and only 2 weeks to go for her new bin =(
At least you know now and will be upgrading soon! Some people never learn that their cage isn't suitable.
Your hamster will be fine :) make sure you have plenty of chews
Don't feel bad about it. You know the cage is too small and you're doing something to fix it. That's a whole hecking lot better than the people who say "oh, my cage is too small? That's too bad" Your hamster will be fine for two weeks, maybe just try to give some extra playtime.

Update on the situation, I upgraded my bin cage from 217 sq inches to a 611 sq inch bin cage 😍 provided her with one of those wooden magazine holders, her old plastic house, wooden wheel which she also likes to chew on and a water bottle, scattered all the food around the cage for her to search, also with some toiletpaper for her to make a nest, I'm keeping my room warm and make sure her cage is not in bright daylight =) sadly I'm still stuck with wood shaving bedding and it doesn't say whether it's aspen or pine but I'm switching to paper bedding in like 20 days when I clean her cage again because the pet stores were closed today. But like I said (did I?) I think my hamster was in the early stages of cage rage and even after 2/3 months of having her I was not able to tame her and made the mistake of handling her on the first day when we got her and kept her in that 200 sq inch cage which was first a 116 sq inch cage with a small wheel (was big enough back then but now shes bigger) and plastic wires what she was biting on... So my hamster didn't have a great past and on top of that she came from a pet store and I doubt if she was ever handled Exept when being brought to the pet store. She launched at my hand whenever I changed something near her house and sometimes even outside of it, attacked objects that I was holding to put in the cage for 2 sec and then stopped, made screeching noises but she kinda stopped doing that a few weeks ago, poops alot in her house and idk if that's normal because her house is not that big, used to try and climb up the plastic walls which obv didn't work, so I concluded she was in the early stages of cage rage and was not happy. Now I upgraded her enclosure but will she be happy. they don't sell chew toys here for some reason and I don't know how to start taming her like how do I start the proces again because back when I scooped her up with both hands and held my hand against someone else's she would prefer mine (I could handle her after the first month but she would not walk on my hand when in the cage out of her own initiative) so the scent tissues are not an option anymore, hand in cage = bloody scene. I'm so lost, even if she's untamable or something I will still care for her and provide her with a good home because I love her but I'm just so lost, it would be nice if I could bond with her but she also hated bathtub bonding, she bit my socks, tried to dig away in the pillows and started biting the blankets. Pls give me some advice
1. How Do I restart the taming proces or should I just leave her untame and care for her
2. What are good types of chew toys/ alternatives

Thank you! I live in a really cold area (Wisconsin, if anyone wants to know) and I usually go back inside not because I get bored, but because I lose the feeling in my fingers and feet.
Edit: Yeah, it gets really cold here. AND about the other video, it gets super humid in the summer, too, especially upstairs where my room is. These 2 videos really help!

One of my early hamsters went into torpor as in those days (1980s) it was common just to have a house heated by fires in the uk and not all rooms had them luckily my Dad is good with animals and knew what to do but I thought that the hamster had frozen to death, it might sound silly outside of the hamster community but this is one of the things I’m most proud of my Dad for. It’s great now that we have the internet and your videos so we can educate ourselves about hamster care and not just rely on the luck of having someone knowledgeable around.

It's already snowing like crazy ,and we're all freezing our tails off in Wisconsin. Winter came real early this year!!! Anyway I like to wrap a hand warmer in a sock and put it under their nest. On the outside of the enclosure of course , but it works wonders. It's nice and comfortable not overwhelming hot for their little body's. Thank you for always covering the important stuff !! Much love!!!

Prxncess Bubbles my Syrian bit me once the first time I held her, but hasn't bitten me since. It didn't really hurt, either, it just kind of felt like getting your finger pricked at the doctor when you're a kid, but (imo) not as bad. She has pooped and peed on me, though lol.

@@wistful4684Bubbles their poop can be compared to little chocolate chips, and their urine has a VERY weak almost unnoticeable scent.

Hey...Victoria. Last two months or so, I remember that one of ur specially cute hamsters died, and u seemed really sad. I remembering saying to stay strong, but just two days ago my little hamster buddy died. It was especially sad, he was making choking sounds, and I was crying all the moment..he died of old age he was 2 and a couple months old. The saddest part is that after he died, his eyes were teary. I couldn’t cope well and right now I am in a state of depression. At school I stay away from all my friends and I always sit in the corner. I have a small favor to ask. Can u please make a video of when to feed your hamster, and how to make sure it is happy and not stressed, and how to know signs of when it’s thirsty? Please, it’s really painful for a best friend a.k.a a pet to die, and I hope people don’t go through it. Thank you Victoria, I should thank you I have been watching your channel before I even got my hamster. I really like that you do this to teach us right from wrong, of how we take care of our pets.

I’m so thankful for all of your hamster videos. My mom impulsively bought a dwarf hamster she named Ham-Ham, and I eventually had to be the one to take care of it. Of course, I didn’t know what to do, so I watched your videos to help me. My mom bought a VERY small container to house him in, which was way below the bare minimum so I’m working on building a DIY cage for him from a 9 cube shelf. I’ll be using the top 3 cubes which will be around 500 or 600 square inches. I’m also trying to save money in order to buy what’s best for him, but a little difficult since I’m a freshman in high school and I currently am not working. Hopefully I’ll finish building this week so he’ll have more room to run around! Thanks again for your help and your videos! 😁

One thing I've been doing with my new hammy is using polystyrene sheets from the delivery of his glass terrarium under the cage and between the cage nd walls to insulate. I find they work better than blankets so if anyone is getting any deliveries of large items like a new TV or something in the run up to Christmas, keep the large polystyrene sheets!
as someone who lives in a very tropical country, 18-23c is very new to me 😭😭 my nose gets clogged.
