one of the best match i've seen in WS discipline since i'm a bigfan of MD...TTY's techniques are on another realm, no wonder she's the queen for a very long time...
wish she would reconsider of retiring after OG2020 :( can't lose such a great queen

Why is TTY my fave player (male or female)? Not only for this great comeback but also for her great humanity and sensibility. At the end of the match as she approached to salute Akane, her expression is almost apologetic. It's like she almost feels that Akane should have won. I am sure she is happy she came on top but her face shows empathy for the looser. As if recognizing the great player Yamaguchi is and she also deserved to win!! Too bad the cameras don't pay more attention to the players body language and physical interaction before but especially after a match!

Well said. I had the same feeling as I indicated in another comment below. Yamaguchi said TTY was in this nothing-to-lose mentality at 16-20 in the second game. Once Tai overcame that hurdle and won the second game, she was in an even more relaxed mood.
TTY was behind 6-12 at one point in the third game and 14-17 later. But when she caught up with Yamaguchi at 17-17 there was no screaming, no shouting, or clenched fist - sort of things that players usually do (case in point: one particular player, who is currently injured does that whenever she wins a point.). The mutual respect between Yamaguchi and TTY is admirable. They will have plenty of opportunities to play each other before TTY retires after Tokyo Olympics.

@VajTsab 8 Sengli i dont think so. when akane got game match points, tty played really good without any mistakes (most lead her to lose, cause she made too many errors very often). You can see that from 16-20 2nd game, akane really can't keep up with tty's shuttle cock placements

I'm sure she will be. She gave away this match in G2, holding 5 match points and unable to convert any of them. Even TTY seemed surprised to get through that game lol.. Good fight in G3 but too little too late

@K. R. Yes both players must be starting to feel the physical toll of all these consecutive matches, hopefully they will have enough rest before the Asia Championships.
@Maurice C Of course this kind of situation is always hard to take on the moment for any player, I just hope she will make use of this defeat to improve her mental strength, I think this is the area where she's lacking the most right now.

This is a weird game. It appears that TTY was a reluctant winner, committing some laughable unforced errors while Yamaguchi made every effort not to lose. TTY seldom forcefully smashed either and played too many trick shots with varying degrees of success. Was she saving energy or just tired from the tournament ? In the end, TTY came out on top and probably surprised herself. It will be another worthy opponent tomorrow in the final. Rest well, TTY, see you on the podium.

  • @pw7311

Yamaguchi won the first game, but she almost ran out of juice in the end, which caused her to lose the second and third games. In contrast, TTY seemed too casual almost. She remained largely in control from the beginning to the end.

Yingying's deception is the best right now, as well as all time! She sent Akane the wrong way multiple times in this match! It seemed that she tend to relax a bit after leading by several points, giving opponents chances to catch up. I thought she's leading in double digits in the third game, but it turned out not to be the case!
