  • You've heard of the 24 Hours of Lemons, right? Bunch of old cars running an endurance race is what it is and it is great fun. We've done it ourselves.
But it is hardly a new thing as seen in this video from 1951 Hop Up magazine. Racers competed at Gardena Stadium in 1951 for the grueling 24 hour event. The story is retold here!

I love how the writer expressed amazement that these cars were over 15 years old!

Yes! That's part of why I refrain from making my own comments. Their words are true to the day.

My dad, Eddie Gray, actually raced in that jalopathon at Culver City stadium. My mom told me it took quite a few days for Dad to recover after running that race for 24 hours. 😉

From back in the day when drivers had cool nicknames. I'm sure you know your dad earned his "Steady Eddie" Gray monicker. Watch for some Saugus and Riverside videos, he'll likely appear there as well.

@@haroldosmer9803 yes, dad was given the nickname of 'Steady Eddie' by the jalopy TV announcer at Gardena stadium, Hal Shidler, in 1957 because of his very consistent finishes. That nickname stuck with him the rest of his racing career. It was a very fitting nickname because that's who dad was on and off the track, 'steady Eddie'. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos in the future. Thank you! 🥰

Let’s do it again. To enter your car you have to prove it’s been your daily driver for at least a year.

We actually fielded a two-car team at Altamont for the 24 Hours of Lemons in 2007. They have since become a bit of a franchise yet retain much of the fun and character.
