My senior year in high school an autistic kid sung this at the talent show and won second prize. To this day 10 years latter I still smile when I hear this song because I hear him singing it every time. It made me understand that special needs children have the same humanity as the rest of us, and are just as capable of expressing it given half a chance and a microphone. A room full of teenagers formerly divided over social and economic status, preps and geeks, jocks and nerds, came to their feet as one screaming along with the lyrics and chanting that kids name. Music is a powerful uniter.

It started when the band first formed here in Australia, Angus being on the small wiry size, just looked right when dressed as a junior private schoolboy wearing shorts, blazer, and a cap. I think the story goes that his sister made the outfit for him, and it was from the Ac/Dc electrical label on the back of her sowing machine that provided the band name AC/DC. As a person who came up during this (seminal) AC/DC era, I can share that the schoolboy outfit seemed very fresh at the time - as in, other than the Kinks, I can't think of any musician - at least on a mass level - who dressed this way. Along with Debby Harry & Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music; Angus helped open the door to uniforms as stage wear; parodying or turning iconographic images inside out... as a casual stage costume. Plus - hey - it's sexy - in what the Brits (so, I guess, Aussies?) would like call a 'naughty' way... :)
