Great message over all. He was clearly teaching Lordship salvation at one point starting at about 19:00. Confession of Jesus as Lord is not MAKING Jesus Lord of your life or promising Him some kind of commitment. It is believe WHO Jesus Christ is which means He IS THE LORD meaning He is God in the flesh. If you make that to mean commitment or dethroning self and making Jesus Lord of your life it definitely is works, not grace. When Jesus Christ is called Lord in the Bible it literally means He is God and as such He does have the right to rule every believer, but believers are born again and do receive a new nature from God. However they still have the old Adamic flesh nature that will fight against the new nature. That very struggle is clear EVIDENCE that you have been saved. Unsaved people will not have that struggle between flesh and the new nature. Still, Adrian Rogers was a great pastor and preacher, but I think he sometimes did teach a Lordship message. It is not my commitment to Jesus as Lord that saves, but my faith in Who Jesus is and WHAT Jesus did for me on the cross and His bodily resurrection that saves me. That is all I understood when I got saved over 44 years ago. You don't have to overcomplicate the message. Romans 10 does not contradict John 3 or Isaiah 53. It is looking to Jesus in faith and believing He is the one Who paid the penalty for our sins on the cross and rose again. That' it, PERIOD! It is God WHO CHANGES the believer by giving them a new nature and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I do believe there will be evidence of salvation, but there also must be growth in grace and knowledge too! Nobody goes from lost to mature and knowledgeable Christian in a single moment.
I had the same observation. It sounds very much like a lordship salvation. He does want us to trust in Christ alone, but the assurance of salvation he puts on our works in this life. I simply trust Christ as my Savior. Having trusted Him at His promises, I have assurance that He will never lose me, and it emboldens me to stand for Him regardless of the outcome. And even when I fail, I don’t fear that I have lost my Savior.
Salvation is simply believing what Jesus has already done for us on the cross. John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that all that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP ON THE LAST DAY. First Corinthians 15:1-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. If you believer He did it for you, you are saved and are given eternal life and the Holy Spirit of promise. Ephesians 1:13 John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. Predestination simply means once we have trusted Jesus and Him alone to save us we are predestined to be raised at the resurrection and be conformed to His image at that time. We shall be like Him. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. Romans 11:6 It is all AMAZING GRACE.
I didn't like how he'd refer to the supposed "original hebrew/greek," and sometimes use a passage or comparison from one of the fake, modern per-versions, but he was still one of the better preachers on the hellevision.
I know what you mean brother, and yet he was a great preacher, did a lot to turn the southern Baptists back toward the Light, the work ain't near done but I believe our Lord did say 'Well done my good and faithful servant' when they met up yonder.
