As someone who portrays Fallschirmjäger, this is a very useful video. Original helmets are way too expensive for most people so we always have to deal with reproductions, most of which are not great from factory.
@@jemand-6594 all the brand new ones I've seen (that aren't really high end repros) are all the same. FJ-Werke makes high end ones that are real expensive, but he takes ages and is an arse to work with
Another interesting "add-on" is a shoe lace tied into the helmet liner. Some paratroopers used it to fix the helmet to the equipment if not worn. There's an interisting foto in the "German Paratroopers" books from the Zeughaus Verlag. Also, sometimes the liner screws got lost during combat and were replaced by the older types afterwards. You can find pictures taken on Crete (and later as well) showing helmets lacking one screw. Taking out a screwcould add to the look of a battlefield-tested helmet (or paining a screw in a slightly differend color).
Very nicely done, i know i would have fallen for them if i didt know they are replicas xD Just a small suggestion next time you make a "re-issued" helmet, kick and throw it before you recolour it. It adds even more texture and makes it a bit easy to fake the "over the years" abuse. It also looks a bit more natural
I like your Channel ❤ You are the reason why I started collecting ww2 relics.I learned a lot from you. I have two MK 2 helmets and a German m35 helmet in bad condition in my collection and I have a lot of ww2 Equipment. Keep up the good Work and stay healthy😃. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪😊
"mom the neighbor is throwing his helmets around again". Great video as always lol! you inspired me to start my own militaria channel and you always serve as a great inspiration.
A very interesting video as always. Also, although was already in to re-enacting, you got me interested in making videos too. I even just made a foxhole in my backyard.
The helmets great. If it was me, I would buy some thin leather in the same thickness and colour as the liner and sew it into the liner to fill the gap, dirty it up and job done.
A tip for shaking your paint cans: Use a reciprocating saw (Sawzall) with a long blade. Put the can in parallel with the blade and attach it to the blade with 2-4 plastic cable ties. Turn the saw on a lower speed and the can will really mix itself well. This takes maybe 1-2 minutes max. . I have seen potentiometers using the almost identical nuts to those used on the helmet. Nice job on the helmets. Can you make a replacement liner using a chamois skin cleaning cloth? They are the same color as the one in the helmet.
fun fact the duo pinhole bolts (not screws) were invented in Germany before WWII but today you will find these on street furniture and on furnishings in public buildings all over Europe.
First things,i love these videos so much, and indeed the look original if youre a beginner to the sport I will be honest and say Thank you for helping me starts my collection with no fear of collecting german militaria Just recently i found a Greek Resistance metal (with its case)and i feel proud of having it ^^
History Secerets, i love your videos and have watched them for many years and have even watched back to when you did those trench 24 hours challenges, i just wanted to say that you are a great creator and i love your work
thank you for this advice I have two of the same element shows like that I might do the same to one of them for my upcoming reenactment in Massachusetts, called the battle for the airfield. It’s a Fallschrmjager unit against American and allied airborne units
Outstanding video and very helpful, thanks! I have been researching which M38 repro to buy to fill in my collection but many of them, like you said, are either very expensive or look like junk. I like all three of your helmets, it would be hard to choose a favorite. The camo helmet looks perfect (from the outside). Gruen sind unser Fallshcirm!
134 days and counting we miss you man and hope you're doing well. Can't wait to see your next video eventually and I recently subscribed to your Tik Tok. Again I hope this finds you well and in good health. o7
There are two M-38s in my collection, one is the original, and the other is the same copy of Sturm as in the video. Only I made the wrong decision, )) I took off the paint and putty! As a result, many small dents appeared on this helmet, which were hidden under it). As for the balaclava inside, I found high-quality copies, I wish I could show you them here.
I just bought a repro so I'll need to work on it a bit to make it look better. I wish I had bought a real one 50 years which was when I started getting interested in German helmets.
Hope you're doing well and praying for your health to hopefully pick up again. We miss your awesome content and are counting the days till you come back. Sending prayers from Louisiana. 🙏
Nick, I have a question my uncle served in ww2 and was KIA I want to know how to search a serial number or what a specific soldier was issued this might be impossible but I want to make a movie about it

Any recommendations on which helmet to buy?

The reissue texture is my favorite.
Re-issue looks original for real. All the original helmets have paint like that. Amazingly done!
Every time I watch this video, I am amazed by the cool collection of excavated m38 helmets
I was so happy when I saw history secrets made a new video but I got happier when I saw it was about German paratrooper helmets
Good to know!! 😄
You have the coolest selection of these helmets! Well done for keeping them in their original form.

That's so awesome to hear, and really cool stuff you have!!
I have one. Found it in an old barn. My heart skipped. Most of the webbing was there but some was chewed by a rat.
Wow, ciuld you make a video of it on your channel

@@History-Secrets Thank you for posting 👍
Always a good day when Nick uploads
Looks amazing I’d probably add netting and as-well try to get some more mud off around the decal to make it look a bit betger
Awesome video! I might need to get into doing this myself! The single decal helmet looks great!
A very interesting video as always. Also, although was already in to re-enacting, you got me interested in making videos too. I even just made a foxhole in my backyard.
Love your content definitely looking forward to see you reenacting as a Fallschirmjager
hello Nick! you are my inspiration and I love to see someone who really goes down in history keep up the good work.
Thank you for this video, it will help me to age my own helmets! I like all three but especially the single decal.
This is very interesting, Nick. The helmets look wonderful for reenactments!❤
Thank you very much Cynthia!!
The helmets great. If it was me, I would buy some thin leather in the same thickness and colour as the liner and sew it into the liner to fill the gap, dirty it up and job done.
thank you nick for uploading on my birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!! 🎉🥳🎈🍰

Amazing result! could you do a British paratrooper helmet?
You do some very entertaining videos ! I`ve followed you for some time , and you have "the look". WW1, WW2 German or US, you just fit right in there!
Thank you so much for the compliments, I really appreciate it!!

New video! 💪
Yessss!
Nice love you're videos👍
Thank you! 😄
I thought these also had the red white and black shield decal on them as well or was that only on the heer helmets
Early Fallschirmjäger helmets indeed also had 3 color shields!
I think the reissued helmet would've looked better with a showing decal. But they look very good anyways
Nick, I have a question my uncle served in ww2 and was KIA I want to know how to search a serial number or what a specific soldier was issued this might be impossible but I want to make a movie about it
