I can imagine that at the end of this eulogy when his voice was breaking, most likely his heart was breaking as well. To lose not one brother, but 2 in such a short span of time, must've took its toll on him and his family.

Ted Kennedy was a flawed man and many have hated him, but he suffered greatly. His two older brothers, his hero's, were murdered. Imagine soldiering on in a life of public service with constant fear, thinking "I'm next." That is a kind of bravery we haven't seen since nor are we likely to see in our lifetimes.

From a non-American, it is so sad to see what has become of America, instead of what it was and could have been...
America went from being the leading light of freedom, justice and opportunity - to a warmongering policestate living in fear.

    • @mikefenn00
      @mikefenn00 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

+Dreez76 As an American, I can say that we are not a police state living in fear. We are a country that would rather acquire things cheaply, as opposed to acquiring things honestly. The idea of America is one that all humans have at any point in history strived for. Unfortunately, the New World Society that RFK spoke about which consisted of humanity truly caring for one another is an phenomenon that we will not see in our lifetime. He is correct, however, in the belief that one man can send a ripple of hope through the tides of time and give hope to all mankind. I believe at some point in our history as human beings we will learn to treat each other as we wish to be treated.

While the music is a little distracting, the delivery of this speech by Ted Kennedy is as masterful as it is meaningful. Take a moment and look back in time and consider how far we as a species has come. Think of the wonderful future we can make. The sheer number of my fellow students in that class who had tears in their eyes, or who simply looked pensive, thoughtful, and on the edge of their seats, is testimony to how great this speech is. You are still inspiring people to this day. Through no action of my own, I was born in a great country and into a great family. I really have been given endless opportunities. Your laying that guilt at my feet is very inspiring and very appropriate.
Please rest in peace with your brothers.

Three months ago, I posted that I needed to hear this today.
As I type this, the date is November 22, 2016. 53 years ago today, Robert Kennedy's brother John Kennedy - our President - was assassinated.
As I type this, it's now also been two weeks since the end of a bitter & dividing election. And Donald Trump has been elected President.
With all of that, I needed to hear this now more than ever.
After the joke of an election we just went through, I hope that from it, better candidates & better people come forward to work in a life of public service. I hope that better candidates & better people see that our Country deserves better than what we just went through with this election & they decide to enter into a life of Public Service for the right reasons, not for the power that comes with whatever office they are elected to. People that get into a life of Public Service that not only know these words, but live by them & put them into action.
I'm clinging to hope that this is the case. I'm clinging to hope that what we all just went through with this horrid election will spark something in younger people out there & that in the next few years, we see them start to emerge throughout our Country, running for Office & winning.
God I hope this is the case. It has to be. It has to.

Karen Catizone The problem with that is election begets election...a life in Public Service need not be 40 years...sometimes it only need to be 6 or 12 years...humility is a lost art..

These words have an extrodinary to cross the bounderies of culture and race, they speak as though they are filling the hearts to all that hear. It's a timeless piece, one that the world of next generations will find applicable then as it is now!

We should think of these words when we look at our actions on immigration and how we treat all our brothers ans sisters.

I was thinking the same thing when the bill passed. it's amazing that in 2010, 40+ years after these words were first spoken, they still hold true for our country today. too many in this country have lost sight of whats important. we need more Ted Kennedy's in this country, instead of the fear mongering politicians we have today. I fear for our nation, we have lost so much ground to the rest of the world. and only common sense in people will help us regain our greatness, sadly we have lost that.

    The contradiction I live in:
when I get depressed I listen to this. It gives me solace, a reminder from the past written by an icon. A man who was mislead by corruption, but then saw through the darkness and deception and bettered himself for mankind. Sad thing what happened to him when he finally saw the light... roberts words will forever give me hope, here delivered by his brother, also a good man in many ways.
At times like these we need hope and guidance. We just need to listen and learn, but some of us will have to act. The ones who act often face the ultimate consequences, but their sacrifice will be remember.. their work revered and written down in the books of history.
For Robert Kennedy, a fallen brother... a warrior who faced some of the wrongs of this world and payed the final price.
    May you rest in peace.
    A state you championed
    and what we need now
