    Man this brings back memories. I built a much smaller Scarab 650 folding tri in epoxy/PVC sandwich construction. Took me about 3000 hours to the water. She turned out beautiful. I’m sure you’ve clocked that up those hours already. I just love how such light materials can be turned into a strong rigid construction. Keep going. Building a boat is not a big job, just a hell of a lot of small ones. Knock them off one at a time and you’ll soon be sipping margaritas. Cheers

      @@SailingSVLynx Im sure you get inundated with armchair admirals full of advice, but here’s a small tip I regularly pass on to other boat builders. Buy a coarse half round Kutzall rasp. No I don’t have any affiliation lol, but I probably should have. They would have to be my number one boat building tool. They are excellent at removing and shaping epoxy, fibreglass, PVC, wood etc. Instead of teeth they have closely packed nodules and man they really can rip off the material with a little force applied, or with a deft touch are great at shaping fillets, coves etc. I like to think of them as 20 grit, with a handle : ). Trust me, you will fall in love with it. If you happen to clog it up with say uncured epoxy, which I did once or twice, I found a wire brush and a butane torch makes short work of cleaning it - just burn it off and brush it out. Cheers.

    I like your choices on everything. Too i like the music at tabbing the rest of the web at 10:30. That music was going thru my head this last week and when i heard it this time. Ah this is where i heard that. Do they have cats kits that use sheets of foam rather than strip planking? I can hardly wait till the next week to see your progress.

    • @SailingSVLynx

      There are Schionning kits that use a few flat panels for the bottom of the hulls, but the hulls won't be as efficient for sailing.

    What is the weight of the floor/decking that the crew is moving around? 300lbs?

    • @SailingSVLynx

      More like 150 before we put on the top and bottom panels. Those each weigh around 200 lbs. These are just guesses from picking them up, we haven't weighed them.

    Nice video…quick question though. since you drilled holes for a third conduit on the web structure, I would assume makes sense to put in a third tube in place..Maybe you don’t need it now or you can foresee a future use at the moment, but it could be handy in the future.

    • @SailingSVLynx

      We decided the ventilation was more important for the busbars than a smaller conduit when we already have extra space in the other two larger ones.

    How come you didn't peel ply the carbon on the bridge deck hull skin over the carbon? does the epoxy you're using allow for chemical bond post-cure?

    • @SailingSVLynx

      We'll be sanding along the stripes where it must bond to the web.

    I am curious why you did not pre-wet all of the vertical web tabbing. Given the short runs and limited access, it seems like that would have been much faster and easier to accomplish.

    • @SailingSVLynx

      We could have, and considered it, but we decided that it was easier to stick the dry cloth to pre-wet walls than trying to maneuver wet cloth down in tight spaces.

    Are the cables ok in conduit all the seagoing craft I have worked on have the cables clipped in so there is no chance of chafing.

    • @SailingSVLynx

      Many boats use conduits to run wiring, so we aren't too worried about that. If it ends up chafing after years, it can be pulled and replaced.

    👋🏼
    Always entertaining to see Lynx being pulled from the California weather.
    It's totally moot and irrelevant and I can imagine you may already know this, however I would like to point out that what you are using to join the slabs of foam are typically not referred to as "biscuits". Now, the only reason I'm stating that fact is because "boat folk" seem to be particularly anal when it comes to nomenclature. Simply because boat yards must to have been somehow void of interaction with the rest of society so they came up with their own names for so many common terms. Whether already in use or emerging from society in general. Terms like "salon" pronounced saloon, "head" for bathroom, "port" and "starboard" not left and right , "stern" and " bow" not front and back , " athwartships" rather than width, "mast" rather than big huge tall pole 😊.
    So as a lifelong woodworker I feel the need to "back the wood" rather than back the blue and to call them "splines" rather than biscuits. 😮
    Always enjoy the progress and the process guys!
    -✌🏼

    • @SailingSVLynx

      We call them biscuits because that's what they are named in the plans.

    • @SailingSVLynx

      As for salon / saloon... I looked that up awhile back:
      Both "salon" and "saloon" are terms used to describe the main social area of a boat, but there are some differences between the two:
      Salon: A modern term that's often used to avoid confusion with the old west term "saloon".
      Saloon: An old-school term that's preferred by some sailors.
      But... they are interchangeable and just what a person prefers.

      Since they call splines "biscuits" in South Africa, I wonder what they call biscuits? To me a biscuit (UK, cookie in the USA) is round, not long and straight. Isn't language interstiing?

    • @SailingSVLynx

      Epoxy doesn't have the same fume issues as polyester or vinyl-ester. That being said, it does have some. Working with it outdoors it isn't too bad. Once we get inside the boat, working in enclosed spaces, we'll have to take a bit more precautions.
