I would add not only hot wire here, but also a plywood template. Which could be used on both sides. I think the time required for rough shaping will decrease drastically.
@@stenogriz No. If its a one off surfboard then you'll just spend time making templates rather than cutting foam. And its really not much slower. Foam cutter (once templates made) is 5-10 mins. Saw is 10-15mins. Hardly longer when this projects takes weeks. And time spent including the templates for hot wiring would actually make it take longer. Besides, no one wants to make the same board over and over again so new templates would have to be made every time. Just saw it.

Is there a particular reason for not using the Hotwire when cutting the excess around the rails? Seems like it would be faster and less messy?

Where are you finding the EPS Foam thickness wise does Homedepot or lowes sell it ?
When you are done shaping a board how do you check the liter since it’s a homemade one ??
