The Roy Hodgson comment that, more than any other, revealed how utterly wrong he was as Liverpool manager: "The fans should accept that, to be 7th in the league, is maybe our level, and we should accept it and get used to it."

Spot on, he lost the supporters with that.

After the awful Everton result he said “we performed well”
Totally wrong mindset to manage a huge club.
Once he had a pop at the Kop you knew he was on borrowed time.

on a side note people think this season's bad but 2010-2011 we lost home and away to Blackpool.

Worst example of Woy was a bad Palace loss and he cried in the Presser, saying 'I don't know what to do'. That was a mature, experienced bloke who had also been England manager.

Oh dear. The Eagles owners clearly haven't watched your video. They sacked Vieira and are thinking of bringing back Woy.

I was lucky enough to have had a lengthy a chat with Zoltan Gera while he was still in Fulham, a year after their UEFA Cup final. He said Roy was an absolutely elite level manager, far better than everyone he has ever played for, both personally and professionally. Imagine the skill difference at the level Liverpool is at, considering he failed so badly with us...

Woy had a good season with Fulham before we signed him, by Fulham standards. Trouble is that he tried to turn us into them.

My memory is that he was seen as a decent management signing at the time by many but that unravelled quickly once he was in post; totally the wrong appointment with the wrong attitude. He was never at the races in terms of the level to aim at. He was used to managing less successful clubs and maybe it was even an unconscious thing - he never seemed to expect to get the club successful again.

My memory is that he was seen as a decent management signing at the time by many. Yes by his mates in the press but they weren't Liverpool supporters. He has made millions by been a nice bloke and a mediocre football manager. He is one lucky bugger

Wrong manager at the wrong time to put it simply. Marcelo Lippi was probably the only candidate at the time. Van Gaal a close second. Would have liked to have seen Kenny come in a year earlier. He could have had a couple of good years before Rodgers with players like Mascherano and Torres had they stayed.

  • @chrisbayes2972

He was given a chance, but very, very quickly (as soon as the second game away against City) he began throwing players under the bus and seeking to deflect criticism away from himself.
Agree completely about him not managing to get the fans onside at every given opportunity. His wife is apparently from Liverpool and this was mentioned in his first interview. I seem to recall him saying she left a long time ago, so you can put that one to bed or words to that effect.

As bad as he was and he was fucking awful , nobody would touch us at the time with Hicks and Gillet ar the helm so really Hodgson was our level at the time ! In my honest opinion, our current owners are only slightly better hence we've just lost one of the best managers in World football, cue the excuses!

he is definitely a PL manager. Did great jobs at Fulham, West Brom, and Crystal palace, but didn't have it at Liverpool level.
