A blot on the landscape. What used to be a small time limestone mining project started back in the 1950's or so expanded in later years causing a visible scar on the hill that could be seen many miles distant. After many complaints and action by the various authorities it eventualy ceased mining operations, (not sure of exact date.) The limestone was used for aggregate for the foundation of road building. The limestone there contains many fossils which points to the fact that the area was once covered by seas and or was a prehistoric sea shore. It looks ok from this view but not so good at ground level due to the mess left there by frequent fly tippers etc....
