Being a Preachers Kid, I was 4 years old when I first sang in church standing on a folding chair...Fast forward to High School, in chorus one day a senior female turned around after a reheasal and told me that I sucked and "Stop singing thru your nose" ....at nearly 65 years old, I still sing in church when asked and I have sung on several recording sessions. Take the punch and keep fighting.

When I was about 6 years old my dad was changing a wheel on his car and told me to hold the spare upright. It promptly fell over and he called me a "dope". I don't think I'd ever heard the word before but it cut me so deep that it definitely affected my self confidence for years and I've never forgotten it. I'm now 71! Keep up the good work.

Man, Jeremy, thank you so much for having the stones to make this video. This was definitely a God send. There is another power at work other than our Father and we call him double O nothin.
You’re a great singer and I hope that I will be able to play the guitar like you before I die. Keep up the good work doing what is right is not always easy. You are in my prayers and remember… Greater is HE that lives in us than him that lives in the world! Love you man.

Brother I applaud you for your courage to make a video like this and to be you. My favorite thing about your channel is that you’re a normal guy who loves music and the relationships built around it and that your unashamedly a follower of Christ. Your videos are an inspiration to me and so many Jeremy. From me and I’m sure countless other brothers in Christ, we love you and we’re so grateful to follow your journeys through music and life. It brings me great joy to know despite those thoughts and hard times you find hope in Christ. Keep doing you brother!

I can relate . But someone told me that not everyone is gonna be a fan of a great singer . He or she will be criticized. So this person , who happens to be a professional singer, told me , you have your unique style which I like and I’m sure more people are gonna like . So , that day I stoped worrying about my voice and kept playing guitar and singing for those who like it .

Dude you nailed it. People are rude and what I have learned is when people run their mouth tearing others down, they are just screaming at their own insecurities! You have helped me and countless others believe in ourselves as we pursue this guitar journey. And quite honestly, I am at the 6 month mark of learning and it’s difficult to not compare my 43 year old self to what others, like you, have worked so hard to obtain. So keep up the good work and forget that Nathan dudes name! Keep up the great work. If you are ever coming through Alabama, hit me up, I would love to take you to lunch. So there you go! Keep up the good work bro!

You are so genuine and the embodiment of what a good human is. You are a breath of fresh air in the ever increasing toxicity of our culture. I can only imagine the kind of guts it takes to make a video with such personal emotion tied up in it, and to expose the nerve endings which have lingered with you for years. You did it masterfully, sir. Such a talented guy you are, sincerely. I bet a lot of people look up to you and I, for one, am one of them. You are a North Star, Jeremy. Never stop shining!

I love love LOVE your edit on this video. The cuts, the composition, leaving certain pauses in there. But my absolute favorite thing is what you did with the camera going out of focus to add emphasis, or if that was your autofocus glitching, the decision to leave it in there... And the cherry on top of the whole thing was going out of focus for that big title (chef's kiss). Sometimes I see videos in our niche that are so good that it makes me feel like I should just give up. But your edit on this video does the opposite somehow. I'm really inspired.

Pretty effing good by anyone’s measure. The only thing missing from this video is you closing it out with a song.
Here’s a data point from one single person- me. When you sing on one of your videos it makes my day. It makes my day for two reasons. 1. I know it fills your heart with joy, and 2. It fills my heart with joy. Thank you for that.
It’s strange how those of us, all of us actually, who have our unique insecurities, can pull-off what might be one of the toughest things to do- talk to a camera and put yourself out in front of everyone. I admire you for being able to do that and I commend you for being able to do it very well.
As someone who is old enough to be your father, maybe too old- lol, I find you to be an inspiration to me. You have continuously showed me how to follow your heart and do something you love despite knowing their will be those who will try and drag you down to their level. You are brave to do this and strong to resist letting them win. I began this note announcing some facts that is a clear indication there are many more than me who love you, respect you, admire you, and who need and look forward to the next video.
Insecurities? I’m struggling with that label for you. I don’t know if anyone can have more confidence than I do BUT I wouldn’t be comfortable doing what you have been doing at a high level for a long time now. Does that make me insecure? I don’t know.
Sending the BIGGEST virtual hug to my friend Jeremy.

My man - I appreciate this video so much. The struggle is REAL. Neurolinguistic programming is with us like the air we breathe. But beyond that - you touch on the importance of the people (and more importantly, the words) we keep around us and give power to in our lives - Many of us, particularly as men but this is true for women also, are raised on a culture of shaming that is baked into the dough of our interactions - some fundamental competitiveness that keeps us separate from each other rather than aligned. But you tackle this subject with such directness, such vulnerability and power. Kudos to you and blessings to all of us in our collective healing journey.

Jeremy you are so much braver than me for real. I’ve been wanting to start a TH-cam channel based on guitar and music for years but I’ve similarly felt insecurities that have ultimately kept me from doing it. I’ve only been associated with your channel for a couple months now but you’ve helped reshape my love for guitar and music again. I think we are all ultimately harder on ourselves than anyone else can be. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve tried keeping myself in check so that I at least don’t make other people feel worse from my comments. I never leave negative comments on TH-cam channels and won’t start any time soon. I appreciate your passion and it’s rubbed off on me my friend. Thank you for that. By the way, I recently made a purchase on a 7 string Schecter left handed guitar and I’m through the roof how excited I am everyday about this instrument lol. I have a lefty PRS custom 24 coming in September and need to find a great mid range lefty acoustic to fall in love with. I’ll report on how it’s going as I get closer to finding one I like!

You provide great content, your passion is infectious and you are simply one of the best channels on TH-cam. I just found you, and I watch past videos every night. You’re a kind man and have inspired me to get back playing acoustic guitar. You have a lot to offer guitar players in general and you make the world a better place. I said previously you’re a good man… and I’ll add with a BIG HEART. Your sincerity is obvious and refreshing. I’m hooked… all the best to you and your family. JD

Man let me tell you something. I love singing and playing guitar. It seems unfair at how much I love it and how bad I am at singing. You may not be the greatest singer ever, but your willingness in a few of your videos to sing in front of thousands of people as given me the courage to even just sing in front of my wife. I think man if Jeremy can do that I can surely sing in front of my wife and my closest friends. Thank you.

It cuts different when they go for the things you think you are doing well. I had a boss once tell me "There are other professions than this." Thank you, Jeremy, for this raw honesty. It's taken me a lifetime to literally stop cringing in shame and embarrassment every time I have a flashback of when I felt unworthy or less than. It's a process of rewiring your brain to start realizing that other people's opinions about you belong to them - their energy and their projection. I play guitar and I sing because my very being demands it. Even if my music will never be appreciated outside of myself, as long as I like it, that's really all that matters. 🙏

Totally honest and something so many of us can relate with. Please know that most of us here adore everything about you or else we wouldn’t be subscribing and keep watching. You are an incredible human being. You have amazing advise to offer and talents to share.
Perspective time: People who say shit like that have low self esteem. They are usually envious of others. Nathan probably saw something about you that he wished he had, and tried to shoot you down to bring you down. Same goes for TH-cam trolls. Please try to rise above those words and understand that these people likely aren’t happy and whole - whereas you have a beautiful life and wonderful things to share. I enjoy your voice and guitar playing. I find your advise valuable. And as one of the few females in the guitar community, I can assure you that you are a very handsome guy and that your wife is a lucky woman to have a husband like you - genuine guys like you are tough to find.
It’s easy for me to say not to let harmful words bother you, but it becomes easier to let go when you consider WHY people say crap like that. Please sing more, remember we all age, and keep sticking with those who aim to love you for who you are.
Don’t ever change. You’re awesome the way you are. Whoever disagrees is missing out! 😊

Understand it completely mate, and well done for continuing to push on and keep doing what you love. MANY people would just give up for the sake of self preservation and taking the easy way out. I do regular gigs now (well as regular as I can in between a full time job and being a dad and husband) and even though I’m out there quite a bit, EVERY TIME I get behind the mic I get insecure and need to fight through it. Takes 2 or 3 songs, and it all stems from a shitty experience in my youth. Like you said, words effect a person and it sucks. We just gotta keep going because it’s not just for our sake, we need to show our kids that you can’t give up, show the next generation that you’re gonna get knocks along the way but you need to pursue what brings you joy and fulfillment because that is ultimately the path to finding happiness. We’re here for a good time, not a long time, and we can’t waste it being subdued by the negativity that we have the power to banish from our lives. You wanna sing? Then sing! You don’t have to be pitch perfect, look at all the famous singers that couldn’t hit the right note if they tried, it doesn’t matter! If it brings you happiness, get after it and inspire others to do the same. The world will be much brighter 😊

Dear Jeremy, thank you for this honest testimony. When I look in the past this kind of stories are popping up in my memories. I´m also very grateful for having my lovely wife for almost 49 years and a couple of close friends. I know they love me and are honest with me. Whenever I´m struggling with things they listen to me and try to help me. And besides these loving and understanding relations there is my Saviour Who nevere rests and never sleeps. Whenever I fall or feel abandoned He is there. In Corona time one of my best friends gave me a book of Edith Eva Eger, "the Choise". After the Bible this book has become my second important book of all the books I read in my life. Her second book, "The gift" has also helped me a lot to deal with my feelings of insecurity. Both books are therapy to me. So keep on doing the good things you are doing. It means a lot to me and many others. Very appreciated!

I feel your pain Jeremy. Back when I was a teenager, I had auditioned for a band when I was 17. Passed the audition, rehearsed for months and right before the first gig, got fired. The words spoken to me were, "you can't play guitar." I was devastated. If I couldn't play, how did I get into the band in the first place? I slowly began to cut back on playing guitar, especially in front of other people, until about the age of 27 or 28. Then put the guitar down for good. It wasn't until I turned 41 that I picked up a guitar and started playing again. Instead of playing the music I originally played, I took Classical lessons for 2 years, followed by Jazz lessons for 3 years. But, unfortunately, I still won't play in front of other people. Because in the back of my mind, those words still haunt me after all these years. And I'm turning 65 this summer.

In first grade I wanted to sing in the chorus. The music teacher called me in to audition and shut me down after a handful of words. Later when I started playing in bands anytime I would try to add some backing vocals I’d get shut down in a second. I don’t know if I would have been able to sing if I had been taught instead of being shut down in first grade but it made me never want to try. And when I got shut down later I pretty much wanted to give up for life. Now I just sign for myself when I play. I know I suck but I enjoy it. Screw what other people think. Do what makes you feel good!😊

We all just need to be the best person we can be to everyone and forgive our transgressors and wish them well.

Some have said it, you do you, I very much enjoy your channel and what you do in the guitar community! 💪

Hey Jeremy, thanks for making content. I always try to analyze the motivations of those who inflict their spite without provocation. Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Unkind people are just that, unkind. I like your analogy about the distorted representation that is reflected back at us by faulty mirrors/unkind people. Please keep going. You are appreciated. People that take the time to tear down others on the internet are something of a mystery to me. If people can't think of anything nice to say, they shouldn't say anything at all. At least, that's how I was raised. Thanks for the time you put into sharing your knowledge of guitars and just being a cool guy!

Thanks Jeremy for being so open and vunerable and helping us all. Here is my limited view on these things. Often when people give nasty comments or advice for that matter, its a reflection of their own experience. Like they are talking to themselves based on something someone else triggers. So it has not much to do with you. But words can hit hard nonetheless. What has helped me is writing down bad experiences and talking about them with a coach/ therapist. It has stopped me replaying the same video in my mind over and over, and feeling them over and over again. Also Ive gained some insight on my own insecurities and how to deal with them. Peace and love.

Brother, someone else here said thanks for the stones for doing this vid!! And they were right!! You're talking about real good true friends!! Your identity is not some hurtful words someone spouted out to you in passing or in a comment on your U Tube!!!! Your identity is you being you!! Your friends tell you that you are a good person and you know your a good person!! You said it on this vid! Your friends are telling you you are Brother!!!! You're talking yourself into being insecure and you shouldn't be!! You have people on here subscribed to your channel including me who enjoy you and watch what you're doing and learning from you!! I myself wish I was doing what your doing and making a positive impact!! You can't please everyone!! Those people giving you grief are jealous of what you're doing and don't matter!! You have to make yourself happy to be able to pass it on to others!! Stop beating yourself up Brother!! Your rockin it!!

Thank you for your words. I really needed this today. I am a sound designer for the theatre and I have been just feeling the imposter syndrome hard in the last 2 weeks. I have one show just open and another that is about to open. I am feeling a little creatively tapped. Also, I feel like I'm bracing for some reviewer to rip me apart while I'm feeling so vulnerable. It is part of the job and theaters invite the criticism to build hype and sell tickets....but the risk is there.
I have my guitars and I haven't been playing very long but they have been a refuge as has your channel. I'm still very much trying to develop my taste in guitars and have been binge watching your channel whenever I feel overstressed. I find your content really helpful. You are so dang relatable as a person. You are funny and kind. I also adore when you do outtake reels.

Mean, critical people are very sorry people. They are usually the most insecure, envious, covetous, jealous people around, and enjoy tearing others down. Sometimes they are verbally abusive because they were verbally abused, and somehow the cycle of abuse continues. I grew up with people like that in my immediate family. I've learned to pity them and do the best to avoid and ignore them. My goal is to live in a world of light, and be the best possible me I can be. Thanks, Jeremy, for being part of the light that surrounds me.

Great video man. It certainly resonates with me in more ways than one. There’s a lot of insecurity in this business, and opinion everywhere you look. It certainly makes for some difficult times. The beautiful thing is that it can push us to do greater than we ever thought we could. It’s not always easy, but at the end of the day I feel very lucky to be making my living doing something I love,. I admire your courage in putting all of this on the table.

From one ordinary gutar fanatic to another. We're not the best players, surely, but were GOOD! Remember 90% of people can only wonder what it would be like to be able to play any instrument at all. Only another small percentage of those musicians play the guitar. That means that you and I are GOOD at something that almost no one else can do! This is what ive always told my daughters when they were learning music. YOU'RE GOOD, AND GETTING BETTER EVERY DAY, AT SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD CAN ONLY WONDER ABOUT!

Another beautiful reflection, Jeremy. The "everyday people" we are is the valuable thing - and we're all everyday people, who sometimes get to do exceptionally beautiful things - or make beautiful sounds! Thank you! As Joni said in a song, "When you dig down deep you lose good sleep, and it makes you heavy company..." That's not a bad thing.
