- Commodore C64 demo Artillery by Shape.
Programming: Glenn Rune Gallefoss, Geir Tjelta & Glenn Davanger.
Music: Geir Tjelta.
Graphics: Archmage.
Design, charset & loader: Glenn Rune Gallefoss.
Captured from a real C64 using s-video cable and audio from a 2 different 6581 SID chip revisions.
Some postprocessing done with the interlaced effects to get around TH-cam framerate issues.
Out of all the countless chiptune songs i've listened to, this still remains my ultimate favorite. A hidden masterpiece of composition! Especially around 4:34 there is so much emotion behind those notes, it keeps getting better every time i listen to it. Geir Tjelta, you created something truly special!
Actually i think that 3:57 is the part, with the most emotional hit in the song.
that shit punched me in the heart
Its a incredible effort to produce this on this machine, unbelievable graphics and demo design. Who would have thought a 1982 machine could produce this ?
Hands down greatest C64 SID tune ever made, absolutely incredible!
What are the top 5 please?
After a year from discovery of this tune, still can`t get enough of it. There is none SID on YT, that i beloved so much.
What a nice song, and what a pleasure to hear stereo SID.
Great demo
They really did push the SID chip to its limits ;) Awesome demo
Absolutely amazing demo! :-)
Are you... Real?
One of my faves too. Also. Loved listening to u on Retro Hour. You are a Master of the SID!
@@chiclone-tests71 - yup, the very same :))
the man himself :D
it is Amazink!
it is simply the best sid tune ever.. ive still got by breadbox 6581 lol
One of the best soundtracks I‘ve ever heard, and so in tune with the exceptional graphics.
why is this making me cry?
oooh my gosh!!! this music is a veeeeery amazing!!!!! the c64 is immortal !!!!!
I just love this song
Unbelievable ❤ absolutely 💯
wonderful tune !
wow its the man himself!
My god I love the old SID chip. Makes me miss my C64 so much. Emulators just aren't the same!
Listening to this while drawing almost made me forget that I was listening to a SID, that's how high quality this is!
cant get enough of this music and sound, incredible tune!
Best C-64 Musak ever made, for me! SID rules!!
Insanely well-produced SID tune. Much love :)
wo wow wohoo., amazing.
Outstanding tune, one of the best ever with SID. The graphic is good too.
Couldn't agree more. One of my all time favorite SID tunes as well.
One of the greatest C64 Demos.
Love how the music is perfectly synced to the effects. An awesome demo in every way. Thanks.
i absolutely love the change in music starting at 3.34
GOd SmAckinG AWSOME🤟🤟
Great SID music! C64 still alive :-)
+Steve Wall : More than ever! :-)
Simply the best demo ever.
I always wished that Commodore would've released a C64 with dual SID's in it. Cool stereo tunes and sound effects at the same time in games might've become the norm. One can dream!
Nobody had stereo TVs at that time.
Modern boards does it now or also some SID-compatible chips.
This stuff is amazing, I must have watched this video about 30 times now and I just can't get enough of it, it's probably my favourite C64 demo, and the music is bloody fantastic! I'd sure love to hear more from the same composer, or at least more in the same style...
What does it mean 'demo'? Is it demo version of a game?
This might be a lot to explain, but I'm going to explain it briefly. This is not a game nor a demo version of a game. It is a non-interactive demonstration of what C64 can do through 6502 assembly. There are many great productions from the C64 demoscene, such as this one.
@@alextrezvy6889 O tempora, o mores... Damn kids these days. You have iternet and everything yet you still ask such stupid questions. Incredible.
@@TrueNeutralEvGenius well, I'm russian, and in our language "demo" means "demonstration", which means "something you want to demostrate" (for example: demo of a game, demo of an application). This video looks more like a "piece of art" (such as music, picture, sculpture) than as a "demostration". So it is not my fault that somebody accepts a weird terminology.
Concerning "stupid" questions - I see no lesser really stupid statements about Russia VS U.kraine. So first you'd better to heal yourself.
@@alextrezvy6889 No one here cares about your nationality and political agenda. It was about Demoscene. Demo was a known term, first demoparties were held in Russia since 80s and 90s, and in fact, я был одним из тех, кто эти Демопати впервые проводил в России. Не надо свою невежественность прятать за личиной национальности или каких-то других нелепых признаков. You could check the term and it's semantics easily with technologies there are today. Yet you are just writing bs and absurd justifications of your foolishness. Stop being so infantile, educate yourself.
You gave me goosebumps ! Awesome job ! This is amazing
I could only imagine it takes 30 minutes of an intro to get into a game of tanks.
отлично смотрится и слушается, на ухо и глаз старого спектрумиста. крутая работа
That music... wow!
This is such a great demo! Great stuff! :D
Outstanding Tune....
Beautiful
gobsmacked awesome thank you
Absolutely incredible.
This is simply amazing. Fantastic.
Maybe the best C64 demo ever.
As has been said, best SID tune ever written. And I've heard a lot! Other than that, very nice visuals in this demo and some really well executed routines. One of my top 3 demo's now, lets see if that changes soon..
Wizards of the SID be here - awesome melody :-P
Very nice demo, love the melodies in the song
This is fantastic i loved my C64 back in the day.
nice work this is art
Amazing music, amazing graphics! Excellent demo.
Such as impressive!!!
Very good video, too!!!
Very nice tune!
Wonderful use of the SIDs!
This music is kickasssssss!
nice song, great SID sounds... :)
Really cool tune
Amazing!
Lovely tune.
amazing
That's actually tetris pieces falling off at the start
No shit, Sherlock! ;)
Top ! Congratulations !
FantasticJOB!!!
That guy with the Purple Screen reflection at 2:40 appears to be very iconic. I've seen many users of TH-cam and demoscene website use it as their avatars. I've even seen it on a T-shirt design
The next view of this dude typing like a madman on his 64 is sick as helll. I get this feeling quite often
Nice to hear. :) Little did I know when I made it.
It is a cool job!
My deepest respect to the creators of this demo - especially the SID is simply brilliant.. nothing comes close to sound of the SID .. not in my hounest opinion anyway
Nice!
awsome
0:44 oh... my......... fucking........... GOD!
Check out from 2:11 too ('She's up all night to the sun..')
100% agreed :)
i agree!!
intro effect rox !
2X SID = god
Is that not one of the best sounding sid tunes ever?
Actionoise.... Good frequencies.....
Can we find this artist somewhere? Like on Bandcamp?
How hasn’t the 8 bit guy seen this?
The opening/ending arpeggiation appears to be taken from an old AHX tune: Gier Tjella - A new beginning. The songs are otherwise very different though!
Same composer then :)
Where I can download this amazing demo?
Are there any communities out there for stuff like this?
amazing demo, The music is stunning! Who composed this sick tune? give me The name of the musical genius behind it
Geir Tjelta
Epic shit, but the screen in the sunglasses has to be mirrored... Heavy mistake!
Who made the music for this? I want more!
Daniel Lindholm Geir Tjelta
where can I find the SID file to play in my real stereo SID C64?
@pigpenthegreat
It is:)
@toddybody true
Im guessing this demo wont run on my C64 since it uses 2x sid? Great work btw.
Trydowave Zod I think it will work just fine with 1 SID chip on real C64.
its only 1 SID! Geir is truly the master!
One of my favourite demos, but I cannot download a working version anywhere.
+inphanta Check this out: csdb.dk/release/?id=93836
Didn't try it on a real C64 yet but works with CCS64. You NEED to turn off maximum floppy speed to run this!
Raunchola Yeah, I got it to work in the end. :)
What is better than the SID chip? 2 SID chips!
how does the 2 x sid chips setup work...?
Usually with a little board which hosts 2 chips, like "SID 2 SID" or "SIDfx". th-cam.com/video/_TYrmmYfvxg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/3WCUxF43Uiw/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/WqlpyVzvgyk/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/MfxpUHkbdtA/w-d-xo.html
Some modern chips can reproduce a dual SID, like the SwinSID.
th-cam.com/video/tkXsDUz8sQs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/TUCNDNJHItw/w-d-xo.html
i dont really get how there is 2 6581 sid chips playing at one time
0:59 GET LUCKY!!!
Daft Punk likes to watch C64 demos... ¬_¬
Wow, put it to 1.25 :-)
Amy way to load this in a sd2iec?
Music from 1:00 definitely using samples from Last Ninja 3 Intro
"samples" is a bit insulting :p
SID is not a sampling chip like SNES
@@64Abstract Look up "Sampling (music)" in Wikipedia!
yes i know but sometimes creating arpeggios can sound similar like in this case, Geir probably make an arpeggios differentiate the notes at 1 octave apart. which seems to be the same way Matt did the arps in Last Ninja 2.
oh i mean the pulse arps at around 1:00
those guyz know the secret: that is not about trying to proof that you can make codes on codes, push the tempo and blitz the viewer with 1000 tricks. That is al about the story, narration and proportions
can i use it my videos?
+MrBrauner666 ok, thnx)))
Ok guys found it : csdb.dk/release/?id=93836 :-D
Very good song. Nice to hear some real sid songs instead of regurgitated house/techno/dance bullcrap.
too hype
FYK ME!
Masterpiece, together with finnish gold my absolute favorite music.
If you like this, you’ll love this one: th-cam.com/video/rSq-hdzfiQc/w-d-xo.html
Sound is awful, starts with superb echoed something - which is great! but then it quickly becomes something with too much echo/reverb/I don't know what more, let me switch that immediately off thing. No, that tune needs more respect, not that awful mastering, the mono version is better :) although I must admit in some places it works really well.
