Thorne was MACV-SOG in Vietnam, and for those who do not know SOG, should look them up. Their missions were so dangerous that each member had to sign a contract for 7 missions at a time. SOG is the only element in US military history with a 100% casualty rate, they also still have the highest K/D ratio is US military history.

Sabaton has become one of my favorite bands, partly because they rock and seem so down to earth. They just seem like dudes you'd meet at the bar to have a drink with, like the fame hasn't gotten to them at all. But also because I always learn something from listening to their music. I love that they're keeping history alive with their music. Real life skalds

Oh, I really loved this song. The story of Larry Thorne is almost incredible, going from being a young man wanting to protect his countrymen to serve under a new name. His life truly shines like solar fire, he knew how to turn the mast and take the sails of his destiny in the end... Even if such life was finite, that determination was a true tresure of thousand worlds

Something not too often mentioned, that Lauri/Larry was able to visit in Finland a few times after those difficult years following end of ww2. His family/close relatives and he himself could enjoy it, that he did good. He even had his car, which he was proud of, with him during at least one visit in Finland. So even though there were those difficult times he could see, that his fatherland hadn't fought for nothing and he could be welcomed there again. Something what many seem to miss when talking about him.

Larry A. Thorne is the physical embodiment of Special Forces as a concept. He literally helped develop the US Green Berets as a specialist, advisor, and active officer with skills, he had gathered in the previous 2 armies.
This man could take a group of people with no common language between them and still be able to effectively lead them as he did with Swedish volunteer forces without speaking a word of Swedish.
Aside from that, this man is also the embodiment of the anti-communist flame. He would partner with the literal devil (The Waffen SS) for the chance to battle communists. As such, some people say that he's still alive, stored in a cryogenic chamber in the NORAD, Cheyenne mountains. "In the case of a Communist insurgence, break the glass." Other people say that he just heard there are more dead communists than alive, so he went to hell to battle them there *DOOM music starts playing*.
Also, one of the very few SS soldiers to be buried in Arlington with full honors. He is pretty much like a Treasure Planet of war stories.

This is what I like about Sabaton. They don't take political sides even thought politics and history go hand in hand. They cover all sides because like it or not heroic actions are not just from the allied side.
And the best part They researched the stories to make the songs as accurate as possible. Even nothing else to support that they are not what some people claim they are.

Great to make videos from Finland! I'm Finnish. I have not been allowed to talk about wars in Finland !! I have received a lot of information about the history of Finland which has been tried to hide from us .. even before the ice age !!! a good thing when other countries speak out about the Finnish wars! Finns only start to appreciate what they have done now! I thank the people who went to war and everyone who helped Finland! THANK YOU TO ALL THE CONTRIBUTORS !! i hope we don't go to war EVER !!! although the Finnish army is the strongest and largest in Europe in terms of population !!! 12,000 professional soldiers and civilians
    22,000 trained conscripts each year
280,000 soldiers (strength during the war)
    870 000 reservists.. Finland's population now! 5.531 million (2020)

I would have watched this video earlier but I'm a master procrastinator. But I have to say this was a great video to watch, I usually have a really hard time just sitting down and watching stuff that is more than like 15ish minutes but for some reason I was pretty much glued to the screen watching this. Also when you said that you had never heard about the winter war and that we might be shocked about that let me just say this, I am Swedish so in the neighbouring country to finland and when I went to school in the early 2000's we didn't learn anything about it, we barely learned anything about ww2 actually. It's one of the reasons I gravitated towards Sabaton for the history aspect and getting to find out about awesome stories like this. Anyway keep up the amazing work.

There's a Ukrainian band called 1914 that sings about ww1 history. It would be could if you checked out the song and a cross now marks his place. It's a real letter from a british officer to the family of a dead soldier word for word. it's death metal so it might not be for everyone.

Great video. I watched the whole thing (Treasure Planet). I've already seen the Sabaton history videos. They didn't show in the video, but there's a Wikipedia entry for him. Before going to Vietnam, he served in Europe as part of a Mountain Division training unit. A lot of the US Army's Mountain Division tactics are based on the training he provided. While serving in Europe he was able to reconnect with some friends and family he had to leave behind. Also, he is the only person buried in Arlington who received the German Iron Cross.

I'm not familiar with Treasure Planet, but it sounds to an uninitiated listener at first blush like an adaptation of Treasure Island? Brilliant book and well deserving of it. If you're wondering what he did with the cartridges and casings he collected when he was young, he used them to make a mine like bomb which he and his friends placed on a train track and watched as the train went over it and it exploded. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the train was undamaged so they got away with it. Also, Treasure Planet is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love how similar it is to the book (Treasure Island), at least at first (If you ignore the aliens and robots)

this mans story is too crazy for hollywood, or i have no clue his live was ever part of a movie. I first heard his name from a finnish friend during a BBQ some years ago. We were all history nerds, and after some drinks, he asked me if i have ever heard about Lauri. The Winter war is not something i´d say i know enough for a serious conversation on a higher level. But i was curious. I asked the internet, and i found Larry as a MACV Advisor in 1965 in Vietnam, and this made the wolf being hot on his heels...

Visit Poland, you're cordially invited. There is everything in the pill here. Plains, Baltic coast with beautiful beaches in the North, and Tatra, Carpathian, Beskidy and Świętokrzyskie Mountains on the South. There also is Bieszczady region, were you can see trenches and find ammo from WWI. But as far as history, you can start now. Polish "official" history is 1050 years old. It starts in 966 A. D. when Prince Mieszko I-st converted himself and Polish Princedom to Christianity. At that time in Europe one had to be Christian to have any voice on international arena. So, you have quite a lot to read.
And yes, Poland's geographical placement is a bit "unfortunate". It's the shortest way from North to South, and from East to West, so everyone wants to cross through Poland, with some overstaying their "welcome" for a time. But Poland is still here. Now we taking refugees and helping however we can.
Reaction very good. The man was incredible, and Sabaton once again gave me a piece of history I never new about. They're great.🇵🇱

Sorry now u are doing the second part and talking about how volitaile the situation was for Sweden and Finland according to Germany and Russia. I was looking at some old infovideos about Swedens defences during this time and why the Germans didnt take sweden. Aparantly the Swedish fleet was considered to strong to take out for the germans, since most of their fleet was needed in the atlantic. Sweden had 3 fleets at the time each fleet crowned by a battleship they built themselves, these ships was slower than other battleships but designed to defend around the Archipelagious in the swedish east coast, meening the low deapth they could use was much less deep than the russian or german battleships could manage, so same power but less speed but at low depth of waters it didnt matter coz the german battleships would get stuck at sertain waters. These fleets was strong enough to defend whole east coast of swden so the germans asked for a peacefull option instead, wich meant they get to buy steel from sweden and use the trainlines between south and north. This kept us from being conquered during the second world war, i do feel we should have helped the Fins more than we did.

not to take anything from Torni as far as his military achievements but historically speaking he was snuck into the US. having served in the SS he was banned from coming to the US for some strange reason, can't imagine what that would be....sarcasm.
there is a very good book on that topic, not necessarily on Torni, but on how certain administrations, (Truman, LBJ, and Nixon) were sneaking high ranking SS officers, mostly scientists, into the US illegally. it is titled America's Nazi Secret by former Assistant Attorney General John Loftus, who was commissioned to do the investigation by Pres. Carter in 1979. you may remember that in 1984 the same book was seriously redacted by the state dept when released. it was called the Byelorussian Project then.
    All the way brother.

First i wanna say, i have nothing but repsect for Poland but they havent always been attacked and being a victim, Sweden was at war many times with them in the old days and many times they actually started those wars with russia or german provinces as allies, still I think Poland is an awesome country though they have been held back by russia from reaching their potential.

The WW2 actually made Sweden grow up once again and realise they might had to face an enemy on two fronts. bThere are actually a movie about this made in recent years about Swedish border soldiers ww2. All of asuddern evolved in a skirmish with german soldiers chasing norwegian partisans. Swedden aint so bloodless though we created the racial isntitute and categorised humasn intyo races. sparking the third reich research into this further. So as a swede well versed in history im well aware about the socialdemocrates crimes. Today though noone wants to hear it.-
