I sit here, 6 years from when this video was made. while listening my eyes drift to the bookcase, hoping to see the Terry Pratchett books I've seen before, and instead land on Ishmael. I'm instantly transported to my high school years, back when card catalogs were still a thing, though only barely, and there was only one Game of Thrones book on the shelves. I remember my High school science teacher, Mr. DiMagio, had us read this book. He was a strange science teacher who wanted us to learn about more than just science facts, but also how science could help us be better people. I've since grown cynical of such thoughts, gotten stuck in my own life and forgotten most of what he, and the book, taught me.
Thank you for this little walk down memory lane. Even though this video, your choice to have it, and display it, has nothing to do with me, I still appreciate it.
lemmmmooonnnnn!!!!! oh god my heart!
+Linz bridge Lemon... Lemon. I was going to say something smart, but then... LEMON. ♥
It's so emotional seeing how life was lived before this pandemic. The gatherings, the water park, all of it. I would give anything to be in 2010 again... or even 2019.
"I most fear that the wonderful way I live my life today will ruin life for generations of people to come."
That freaking amazing line came out of nowhere. No build up or anything, it kind of shocked me. So well said. I wish you had a clip of you just saying it epicly to the camera. I don't know why. But I think I'm going to have to quote you on that a lot from now on.
Thank you
watched this after Follow Hank All Day from 2 years ago and the days are so different, but still so fulfilling.
Rest in awesome Lemon
lemon never, ever forgot to be awesome. she will always be nerdfighteria’s mascot.
“ it’s like holding an iPad up to my ear” oh goodness...
One of my favorite videos! I love that you show your garden. I too enjoy gardening.
He's one of the best humans. Love him
so basically katherine ate a deconstructed doritos locos taco before they were a thing?
This was great! It was like classic, old school, 2007 "Good morning, John. Here is my day" style Vlogbrothers!
Hank always puts a smile on my face with his videos, he's such a cheerful positive person
Lol Hank calling his Motorola Droid X humongous when phones 150% its size are now commonplace is hilarious
I love how you love lots of things. It makes me think about the lots of things I love.
This dog has us totally whipped. Awesome!
Thank you so much for putting a link to us. We are trying to break 10,000 subscribers this week and the push we got from you guys helped tremendously. You guys are awesome.
Wow, Montana looks amazing.
For some reason I got really emotional watching this video because I realised what an amazing human being Hank is. That is all
I miss my chickens. They were all killed by a mongoose. Hesitant, Hera, and Demeter. Never name prey animals.
my chickens were marsala caesar cutlet and cacciatore
they all got eaten by a dog...
my chickens were nugget strip and dave animal control took them and then a month later the city changed to rules and now your able to have chickens in the city limits made my mom very angry
With each Vlog Brothers video comes a new level of love for Hank and John. Great Scott, they're perfect.
How do you prevent people from stealing your veggies from the community plot? 70% of the time my mother comes home from the community garden and say "here's some dill cause SOMEONE TOOK EVERYTHING ELSE"
+Jane Yuan We do it by complaining to the chairman, who then complains to the management who then complain to the maintainance people who then put a note on the board which says that you're not allowed to steal someone else's plants. It does not work. And since my mom is the chairman and my dad is in the management it is really great for the overall ambiance at home if something like that happened.
I started watching this channel about the time this video came out. I'm not sure what brought me back here tonight, but I am now the same age Hank was when he made this video. This is a weirdly sobering thought. Kind of puts into perspective what i'm doing with my life currently. Thanks for being here all these years brothers. I hope I can have this experience again in ten more years.
Rest In Awesome, Lemon.
it was so great to see this. i love seeing katherine. you two are such a great couple. you always talk about how much you love her, and it is so adorable and heartwarming to hear
@ahmedsohnee What you haven't watched all 700 videos!!!
I have ulcerative colitis, which is an auto-immune disease that inflames the colon. It hurts.
"I most fear that the wonderful way I live my life today will ruin life... for generations of people to come." While going down a water slide.
That moment totally encapsulates why you guys are awesome.
OH MY GOSH SHE HAD A WALKING TACO I LOVE THOSE THINGS!!!
Oh my... the things I fangirl over xD
DFTBA!!!!!
This whole Life In A Day Project has been really inspiring, and been a good reminder for how much I should seek to do everyday!
I love your garden! My family owns a greenhouse, so I come from the earth naturally!
BEAUTIFUL onions!
Go Hank!
Aw you so nice to your doggy :)

I started watching vlogbrothers in late May and decided to watch from the very beginning... I'm proud to say that after 2 months watching 3 1/2 years' worth of videos, I'm finally up to date!! :D
Nerdfighters!!
Hank's worst fear is approaching us swiftly
This was a nice break from 2020
Hank from 2010, your Droid X is tiny cute compared to some current phones. My LG G3 is bigger but I did choose it because of its size so I have no complaints.
Hank didn't tell John that he loved him. Missed a moment of heartwarming there.
Was I the only one who was mentally singing "boom de yada boom de yada" when he was listing off all of the things he loves?
.... yes?
Well SCREW YOU I LIKE THAT SONG!!!
*hides*
We love you too. Beautiful family, beautiful garden, beautiful doggy.
How do you get onions that beautiful? My onions barely say hi.
This video just makes me warm and happy for some reason. I've favorited it so that I can have it for sad rainy days :)
Those are called walking tacos! Have you never had one before?!
It must have been a busy and interesting day, indeed.
When creating my own footage for LIFE IN A DAY,
I felt it was one of the busiest day of my life.
Walking tacos aren't horrible, they're amazing!
This is probably one of my favorite vlogbrothers videos
I remember watching this almost ten years ago. And I remember thinking Hank seemed so old and wise and cool.
4.3" screen....... IS TINY
I have the flu so I've been stuck in bed for days,
but this video really made me smile,
life is great :D
Thanks for making my day!
Since when is Missoula, Montana considered small? It has like 70,000 people in it! My town only has 5,500 people and it's considered medium ish!!!
I would say Missoula is larger than Medium sized but still not a "big city"- but I would definitely call 5,500 a small town. Not tiny, but small.
+Lobo Winchester I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that - my high school had 2000+ kids and was not the only one in the city (metropolitan area)
Suzanne Xu There are less than 50 kids in my grade. We can take 20 laps around the school in the 15 minutes before class.
+Lobo Winchester At least you knew everyone? There are just pages of faces that I don't recognize in my yearbook, even for my own grade.
I'm glad you love making videos, because I love watching you guys vlog it out. Both of you have a very friendly and intelligent look in your eyes and can always capture my attention. I really realy love your channel. I'd say my favorite channel on this entire site. and I have a good amount of subscriptions i watch. Never stop
why do a lot of people (in america) wear shirts when swimming?
is it to prevent sunburn? or are they not comfortable wearing a swimsuit?
isnt this quite unhygienic?
TheBierschorle def to prevent sunburn for me.... pools are unhygienic in general and I am fine with my body I just am terrified of skin cancer
Alicia Noriega Velasco
From where I'm from, we're too lazy to take it off. So yeah
This is like the perfect day. Friends, love, awesome homegrown food, and a WATERPARK? So jealous.
Where I'm from we call that a walking taco. Don't ask why. I don't know.
Could John and his cool, tempered optimism exist without Hank's exuberant love of life?
Thank goodness we have both sides of the nerd spectrum represented so magnificently by these two most excellent nerds. DFTBA
🍋❤️💛
I bet that garden benefits a lot from the wide variety that people plant, and when they move on somebody else comes in and plants something new. Lots of variety.
Wait... You didn't say you love John, or even your family.
That's the point, he never says it unless it's Esther Day. It's a thing.
Hank, you are so adorably optimistic. Watching your videos makes me happy, and I thank you for that. *hugs
I didn't know there was such a thing as a community garden plot. That's so cool!
And there's also a fourth question: "What makes you laugh?" but I'm sure people have mentioned that already.
We love you too, Hank, which is weird considering most of us have never met you.
He really isn't flinging it around. He is saying things that make him happy, and people love things that make them happy. It's the way we are. I love so many things. I love my cats, my sheets, my computer, my watch, pony-tail holders, the oxford comma, glasses, nerds, quotes, colors, the paint on my wall, rolly chairs, and so many other things. Those are just the things that I can currently see. I love the things that make me happy, and so does Hank. He's not flinging anything. DFTBA! :)
OMG. there is juggling in this video! As an obsessed juggler and vlogbrother fan this has now become one of my favorite videos. you even know who team rootberry is, that is so cool.
Lemon is sooooo cute!!! Your day looked like so much fun. Farmers Market, vegetables, water parks, and walking tacos. I wish I could do that stuff all the time.
I loved seeing what you do in a day. Love you lots
I love how positive you are. Oh, and nice garden :o) I used to grow my own food, but it's cheaper for me to go to the local farmer's auctions. My whole extended family uses what we get there, it's kind of amazing.
so much love in one video! that made my happy.
when he was listing the things he loved and he said katherine, i felt warm fuzzies inside my stomach :)
You really inspired me to go out and see my world more and for that i thank you.
So this totally made me a little teary eyed at the end
Hank, I also own a Greyhound. They are the best dogs ever! Lemon is adorable :)
I love youtube. Thus I love anyone who uploads to youtube. Thus I love you.
"And I love...you, John. I love YOU." You were so close...
Thank you for this look into, what is to me, an alien world. Suburban Long Island is nothing like Montana. I loved your garden and the idea of a community garden.
That food she was eating that was in the chip bag is called a "walking taco" where I live. Because its got all the stuff that is in a taco, but it is in a little pouch so you can walk around and not worry about making a mess or having it fall apart. they are very popular in the midwest!
i love the vlogbrothers so much.
have to share: was the 1881st to like the video. I enjoy this especially because 1) that's a palindrome, and 2) 1881/3=627... which is also divisible by 3 (my favorite number). And Hank, I'm glad you let your dog lick on ice cubes out of the palm of your hand. That's dedication to pet-loving. :)
Hank just packed more activities and overall awesomeness into a single day than I have all year. q_q
Your dog is so cute! But she does totally have you whipped.... my cat has me whipped too... and the water park looks like a magical place! This video makes me want to visit America even more!!!
You perfectly articulated my greatest fear in a way I'd never thought to say it myself. It did seem like a pretty amazing day, though.
Hank! Katherine had a Doriloco!
I live in Mexico right now and they have these things which are called Dorilocos (literally: crazy Doritos) and they are amazing! They are similar to what she described, but instead of American taco stuff, they put all the essentials to real Mexican food on it: cheese, chili powder, cream, pig skins, lime, salt, and this salsa called Valentina. It is a flavor explosion and it is awesome!
that fear statement brought tears to my eyes.
Possibly my favorite video on TH-cam? I don't really know why.
I got so excited because our town has a big mountain (rather, hill) with an "M" painted on it too!
hank, you're the single most coolest person, ever
the katherine eating a walking taco.... ONLY THE BEST IDEA EVER!
I mean seriously all the deliciousness of tacos and Doritos together!
That can happen. But that can also happen in your yard depending on how your neighbourhood is structured. We gave up our garden because it was really far to haul water and at one point someone took a bunch of potatoes. It was on open property behind our house but down the block and just behind a park. That we were closest to the park probably did us in.
You really do have the best outlook on life.
thanks for your injection of positivity.. I needed that!
For someone that doesn't feel the need to get out of bed, you sure do accomplish a lot once you're up. Kudos.
Hank. Oh Hank. Hank and Katherine. Katherine!! Your videos *consistently* make me want to move to Missoula.
Oh my goodness, you guys do so much in one day. When I go to work and then food shopping I feel accomplished D:
Dude I wish I could have such a positive outlook on life as you do.
When faced with the choice of homework or Thoughts from Places, I choose the one that actually massages my nerd,
That is, to say, Thoughts from Places. The homework can wait.
So you made this video for Life in a Day, awesome.
Lemon looks just like a rescued greyhound at my work (a doggie day care and boarding) :) I love the greyhounds
It's weird watching Hank walk around my town and going to the farmer's market that I go to every Saturday. It's kind of deja vu.
No Hank, thank you :)
That community garden thing sounds so nice! I like it.
Not showing up in sub boxes... lammmeee.
Busy busy day. I wish I could have done this, but I literally had nothing interesting to show. haha.
Good to see Lemon again. :] Glad you guys had such a good day. Nerdfighters FTW. Also... water parks own. I wish we had one closer to me. Haven't been to one in years.
@aura723 it was John's idea to make video blogs back and forth every day for a year (Brotherhood 2.0) which started Hank and John down the whirlwind path of awesome that you see today. You can still check out all the great stuff if you go to vlogbrothers as they still have all the videos. I blew about a month off and on watching the videos and it really was well worth it as I saw them grow as the videos continued. Great Vid Hank, I'm so glad John had the first idea, and you made him do it :-)
"I most fear that the wonderful way I live my life today will ruin life... for generations of people to come". I share his fear
