Excellent tutorial, Laura! I don't know if anyone has informed you of this but the link to the companion video for Luceta in the Description Box takes me to your Ravelry pattern offering vs the video. 😉
Hey! Thanks... that link is correct! There is a video for Luceta, but it is a companion to the Luceta pattern, so you need that first to get the link for the video. Sorry that wasn't clear!
What a great video! Perfect pacing, wonderful production values, saying exactly everything that needs to be said, and repeating a couple of important tidbits for when you're trying it yourself. The hint about distinguishing front from back is priceless. The best point: she says 'try it first with waste yarn' so that those first few extra-squiggly inches are not part of your finished project. And -- of course you'll walk away and come back to it later, and she tells you just what you need to know to pick up where you left off. My next challenge -- how to 'undo' when (as I always do) I lose track and concentration and mess it up. I think I'll make some mistakes on purpose with larger yarn next. Full marks for a cool idea and a great video.
Yeah! So glad you like the video... making them has been our pandemic project! I love your idea of making mistakes with the bigger yarn, that will help you see how to get back on track. Hint: I find I need to undo a few rows and make the loops bigger to get it back on the lucet to get going again. The trick with that is to not twist the loop when you put it back on!
VERY timely for me! I just discovered the Lucet about a week ago and have been trying to teach myself. A little klutzy right now, but the video was most helpful. Thank you!
I just ordered a Lucet and I want to use it to make cord to attach to the edges of a baby blanket. Does that sound like a good idea? What is best to attach the cord to the blanket?
Laura, can you provide some how to's on back tracking (froging?) if you've made a mistake in your cord? It's really fun to create a cord until I mess up on one turn, and then I don't know how to go back!
Sure, it is a little tricky, but if you gently pull on a loop you will see how the yarn is manipulated through the loops... the trick is to elongate the loops so you can get the lucet back in without twisting those loops as you replace it. That took me time, and what helped was to grab some larger smooth yarn to play with that step and see how the construction works!
Oh, great question... I show that in the video that is included with the Luceta pattern... but basically what you do is cut your yarn leaving a 6 inch tail and then pull it through one loop and slide that off the lucet and then put it through the other loop and pull up tight. That binds it off!
Loving this! Question--I am following how you turn it back and forth. I am calling in left and right for my brain. If I am on the Lola side I turn towards the left. Lola-left. Anyway, what happens to the stitch if you keep turning it the same way? Can't wait to dig in to my kits!
LOLA LOLA LEFT!!! If you keep turning the same way the cord starts to wrap around the lucet which I found make it tighter and made working it more annoying... try it the other way and you'll see what I mean!
It doesn't matter how long you've been knitting, Laura ALWAYS teaches me something new - and fun!
Very clear instruction set Thank you.
This looks fun. I need to get one.
Oh, I look forward to trying this. This is totally new to me.
This looks fun! Thanks for the great video!

Oh! Excellent!!! I'm excited to see what you make!
This is really cool. Thank you for bring something new to my set of skills!
Is the Lucet only for making cords?

@@LauraNelkin Thanks! I just want to be sure I can go back safely without making a mistake and then having to start again from scratch (shudder!).
Do you think this would work with horse hair, or does it have to be stretchy?
You'd have to swatch and see... I've done it with cotton yarn and had great success!
How do you end/fasten off the project?

i couldnt understand this for the longest time and i JUST got it and i feel so dumb now lol

Glad you get it now!!!

So twist and non twist are different? I thought that this only one way around than forth and back.
Yes, they are different.... but I don't use that technique in Luceta!
I own a Lucet. Question: where is it hiding?!
I wish I could help!!!
No matter how many times I follow along I end up with a huge knot. I guess I’ll go back to a crochet hook.
