    Interesting fact:
VIVIZ's korean name is actually /bi-bi-ji/ which is from Eunha's and SinB's first name 'Eunbi' (yes they have the same name) and Umji, of course. eunBI, eunBI, umJI = BIBIJI and they are so witty that they translated it to VIVIZ as their international name.

They said VVZ is more of a new re-debut group than a sub-unit of GF. The new fandom is named Na.V (means Butterfly) and one of the goals I believe is to welcome new fans with open arms, especially younger generations. However it's also meant to be somewhat "compatible" with Buddy of GF since you can never sever the connections or ignore the past. One can be a Buddy or Na.V or both, whatever suits.
I think it's a smart move for a new beginning. To embrace the legacy and move forward honestly.

VIVIZ said that they wanted to show a sound that has less sentimentality like much of Gfriend songs. I love that their album is not completely foreign to Gfriend sound all together. Their Bsides are reminiscent of their former sounds which is refreshing. I personally love their direction now. It’s a different pop sound from before. I also love that they showcased what they are great at: vocals, dance, expressions. This truly set them apart from rookies since their experience shows greatly in the final product. Such confidence is only brought by experience. They are truly pro-rookies :)

Honestly, seeing how much the gfriend group members stay in touch and now we have ViVIZ, all fans know that the disbandment was also news to them. Sowon and actually many of the gfriend members still talk about how they wish they could tell us everything because it was all so messed up. I don't think the members intended on disbanding and Source Music just discarded them essentially. It is so sad. From the evidence that fans have gathered, Source music disbanded the group even before gfriend's contract ended. They were under contract negotiations so definitely something shady happened from the company's side. Glad to see some of the girls still togther though

honestly superstar gfriend staying online until last month tells me gfriend's contract was cut short. after all why would hybe allow dalcom to have the rights for the songs for that long. it's likely that gfriend's contract was actually supposed to end at the same time dalcom's did (jan 2022, 7 years after debut) and superstar gfriend would either get extended if they renewed or go offline if they didn't

    • @anonymous7851
      @anonymous7851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +76

Disbanding is one thing but trademarking the name was a real low point. Groups like GOT7 who got to keep their name I think really opens up the doors for them to stay a group (if they wanted to). I think if Gfriend got to keep their name they might have had a better chance to move to a company as 6 - trying to do what BEAST did with a new name and new company is super hard. I do believe in the future - maybe when their individual careers are more solidified - we'll get bits and pieces of what happened. It took 6 years for CL to talk about 2NE1 so the truth will come out eventually.

from the way they act it's clear none of them wanted gfriend to end. just because they also wanted to do other things doesn't erase that. plenty of idols do solo activities while still being part of a group, it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive

Gfriend was/is still my favorite girl group. And I was completely devastated when they disbanded. When I heard about Viviz, I was excited but I definitely had some weird thoughts towards it. I wondered what their sound would be like since no girl group really gave me that magic that Gfriend did for me. But at the same time I figured it wouldn't sound a lot like gfriend's music which would be a good think since they want to make a name for themselves and not be gfriend 2.0. But this song is amazing to me, it doesn't sound foreign to what I'm used to from these members but it is different enough that it stands alone. I haven't listened to the mini album yet but I'm definitely curious to see if this style was just for the title track

There was obviously great care taken in how to shape VIVIZ’s debut album. When listened to it for the first time I heard new sounds, some new ideas blended with familiar, and then there was plain classic GFRIEND. Love You Like was an obvious love letter to Buddy and Mirror was a gift from VIVIZ. I teared up almost immediately upon listening to Mirror and hearing that GFRIEND sound. It was like VIVIZ’s own way of telling Buddy that even though this is a new beginning for them, they will always be GFRIEND our hearts.
I’m just so happy to see our girls making music again and sharing it with us. I will always be Buddy, but I want share this new beginning with them as Na.V too. 🥲🥰

Listening to the album, I agree that it sounds like they want to continue where Gfriend left off, but also focusing more on the catchy retro pop that they did with Mago, I've been a buddy for a while, and I really loved the new directions they went with apple and mago, they still need to sprinkle in some of their melancholic anime intro vibe songs, but I love their voices and personalities, and I think they fit this new pop sound so well!

Buddy since Glass Bead here, and you said it perfectly. It feels like they're keeping the GFriend spirit alive and I love it so much. While Bop Bop isn't exactly GFriend's sound, it has the exact same vibe so it really feels like something they'd put out. It actually reminds me of some of their songs like Love Bug, Life is A Party, and Smile. To me, VIVIZ essentially a subunit. I'm so happy that they decided to redebut together. Seeing all six of them pursuing new careers and showing new sides of them has really been such a treat.

I feels it’s a concept GFRIEND could naturally progress into as 2020 was a major change in tone and concept from much of their previous work. They also made their first subunits that year too, so I can totally see this happening. That’s how I see VIVIZ too as an unofficial GFRIEND subunit. At least that’s my Buddy head canon. I can see that great care went into VIVIZ’s debut album by trying something new while sounding familiar and acknowledging that they will always be GFRIEND in our hearts while asking Buddy to come with them on their new beginning as Na.V. I teared up almost immediately upon listening to Mirror and hearing that precious GFRIEND sound.

I'm sad we'll probably never know what went down behind the scenes between Gfriend and their company. My guess is, seeing as how the news came so last minute, they probably were in discussion about their contracts until the very very end and ultimately couldn't come to an agreement so they left. I think after 6 years of promoting as a solid group, the girls probably wanted to branch out and try new things while still promoting as a group. Because if there's one thing the girls didn't do much of, it was having solo activities (aside from a few collabs and variety show appearances). So it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they'd want opportunities to branch out a bit as individuals but the company probably either wouldn't or couldn't provide the girls with what they wanted. That's my working theory at least. Otherwise I don't think they would still be openly supportive of each other's endeavors and still very close to this day. While I'm sad that we don't have Gfriend as a whole, I'm happy to see they're all still active and doing what they want to do.

It’s very interesting to observe that the group members have chosen different directions yet they are still all shining in the industry, like, Yuju has definitely picked a way to a more mature, grown and gorgeous concept, and expressing her own, unique idea about the art of music, I love that album just as much as I love her courage, but viviz here, is a way different thing, they still feel comfortable with gfriend style, power innocent, and I do think that’s kind of a good time for them to debut, Walpurgis night actually was already a new start for all the members, before that maybe the focus was mostly on yuju eunha vocals and sinb dances, but from Walpurgis night I can see all the members were standing out, sinb was regarded as the main dancer always, but she has a angelic voice to be found by the world, eunha no need to mention, the second gfriend main vocalist in my heart, and umji, definitely next level of confidence. I personally liked the MV a lot although I felt that the colors in the background were a bit too bright. Maybe it was done this way to differentiate itself from Mago, but I'm just theorizing here.
As for the song, I think it's good, but not my favorite from the album. What stood out the most for me is how many different pop styles they managed to pack in one minialbum, which already show their versatility as a group. The last song, mirror, is a tribute to old GFriend sound, while tweet tweet is something very different that sets them apart from their former group. There's even a city pop esque song in there (lemonade)! Overall, I'm very glad to see them delivering fantastic songs again!

I really like the disco genre in general, so this pre-chorus really got me. The chorus was a little bit anti climatic, but that's ok. And about the dances moves that brings you to the 2nd gen, I think it is the focus on hand movements and less in moving the body as a whole - which makes it easier to sing, as you see in SNSD. Itzy and the 4th gen groups are really dance-based, perform dance moves on the floor, with many jumps and heavy movements. These were more graceful and light

Gfriend has some of the best discography in kpop history, and viviz, I think, lives up to a continuation of their last album. Love this new group.

I appreciate the new sound and style and honestly the courage to do this. Bop Bop is definitely a slow burn song for me - the more I listen the more I like it. I don't know of another GG in this territory - even with subunits it's been under the same name/company. As tough as the disbandment was and as much as I want to see the 6 of them on stage again - I think this period is super important to figure out their individual color and explore different paths. 2020 imo had so many great releases (b-sides galore) but felt a bit like a pressure cooker situation - lots of comebacks, reality shows, COVID, new managemnet - without a release valve and you could see it. They ended on a high note and that's better than a lot of the disbandments we saw/yet to see.

The song is infectious for me. I, too, liked the main dance set a lot. And their choreography. I could not put my finger on why, but the first time watching I had this feeling of returning to something I miss. I guess it was that kind of "dated" aspect that reminded me of the things that drew me into kpop in the first place several years ago.

Once you listen to the whole mini album, you will feel Gfriend vibes all along! "Fiesta" took me back to Rough/Love Whisper era ❤️ while "Mirror" (which is probably my fav track) feels like Summer Rain's dongsaeng.
...Also a little moment to appreciate Umji's confidence, voice and beauty :)

Love the song and hearing your thoughts. I was a little worried that they were continuing without YUJU's vocals, but I think the three of them carried it really well. I'm a big fan of how they aren't o be carrying on the GFriend legacy as you say. Can't wait for more!

Fun Fact! Yerin actually mentioned in her VLive the other day that her and Sowon participated in the recording of two songs on the mini-album ('Love You Like' and 'Lemonade')! If you have the time, I would totally recommend listening to the whole album, there are quite a few songs that are reminiscent of Gfriend and others that show off their new colors as a trio

I still think Yuju should have stayed with this sub-unit. All 4 of them are versatile enough to pull off both concepts & comeback depending on the season, & the stages would be fuller/more dynamic with 4 people.

The instrumental for me sounds very familiar because it sounds like the instrumental of Alien by Suhyun! (Btw Suhyun is part of a duo group called AKMU, you guys should check Alien out, you'll see the similarity right away!) I really liked that song, so of course I liked this song as well! Which is probably why I'm really excited to see the progress of VIVIZ' music!

Anna Timgren is one of the co-writers! She's super talented and worked with a lot of kpop groups and soloists. The B-sides of their album are really good too!! I don't think its missing any vocals at all tbh I love the vocals they brought. I'm kind of glad they went more simple with the MV and kept it to a lot of dance moments but had some fun with it too and the TARDIS style set was fun. I don't like a lot of MVs lately that have way too many sets and outfit changes to where they don't look cohesive sometimes.
