Maybe im just too optimistic but him saying that he's been moved back to Pirate is pretty revealing. It says that KI wants to support pirates by allocating more resources
Pirate101's Marleybone deserves the top S tier spot. I would say there is no other world in Pirate or Wizard where you're hit with a hard doss of reality like Pirate Marleybone. Where you realize you very well may not be the good guy in all this and that the pirate is going to be dealing with the repercussions of what they did before, and during their time there, throughout the rest of their life. Visiting Catbeard in glasshouse prison and seeing Catbeard's trial is also probably my all time favorite moment in the whole game I am SO glad Novus also made S tier, it's 1000% my most favorite world in all of Wiz and Pirate. Everything about Novus and Dasein means so much to me. 😭I think Sam got it spot on when he said absolutely nobody saw Manticore's betrayal coming. it was written so well. The penguins got their power back after Polaris so it all just made sense that a high profile one would have a moose as her valet lol, it was silly but you literally feel bad for him. So when the plot twist hits it hits HARD. Hearing him straight up say that arc 4 is divisive is very interesting cause I absolutely agree. I think there are 2 types of players when it comes to arc 4. Camp A where they sorta just play through the game without investing themselves in the story beyond face value, and then Camp B which is made up of die hard fans who are so invested that they dissect it at a molecular level. I do really wish we got Novus part 2 instead of Wallaru.
I agree with the Marleybone thing 10000%. I remember going through it when it first came out and just feeling the complete and utter weight of the game in it. It felt real, and it felt like the story was about to go to places no one even expected. S+++
Hearing Sam talk so candidly about his work, as a writer myself who has admired his best throughout my life, was extremely fun. With VA2 and Sinbad 1 in particular, it was very relieving to just have him be able to freely say "oh, yeah, that was bad work, the circumstances weren't ripe for me to write well and i didn't". Definitely not the kind of conversation we would be able to have pre-buyout, I think.
Not corporate saying that people were losing interest before the pay wall was there so they needed to move it up. But now no one can experience enough of the game to actually understand the game to pay.
Fantastic video; hearing some perspective from Sam really was nice as a long-time player who was around in the beginning. I remember the long wait after Aquila, and wondering what could possibly come next in a great story... and kept waiting... and waiting.... and then V2 dropped and ended the story, leaving you going "that's it? That's how we defeat Kane?" It was so refreshing to hear in his own voice how even he wish this wasn't the case, and it's nice to hear that he was so clearly passionate about his original storyline (regarding escorting Gispacio) as it perfectly echoes a post Blind Mew (Sam) made during a Q/A back in 2016 (which at the time was ALL WE HAD in regards to what Pirate was "supposed to be," and then one producers letter some time later that confirmed the discontinuation of Pirate101 story updates.... It was devastating). Sam, please know that you are talented and have inspired me as a writer in many, many ways. I have absolutely fantastic memories with my brother and I huddled around our computer, being completely engrossed in the story and characters you had built (man I remember when Marleybone dropped and it had me and bro GRIPPED). Thank you for the work you've done over the years and I can't wait to see more.
I noticed arc 4 having a different direction right away but i loved it. People are mad at karamelle for being its own standalone that didnt have lots of plot progression, but the entire gobbler backstory reveal instantly made it one of my favorites. My jaw was on the floor when it was happening
I remember a huge reddit narative discussion thread and I absolutely defended Arc 4. It's such a breath of fresh air, while I am not as much a fan of Lemuria I would rank the other 3 worlds in S tier tbh. Especially Karamelle, the entire atmosphere of karamelle, as well as the subplot of gobblers being empyreans was amazingly fun. The insight into Novus and Wallaru as well is super interesting. Also the betrayal in Novus was unexpected af and I loved it!
Really fantastic video. I love hearing about the bts details and we got so much of that here with Sam. I was practically frothing at the mouth trying to retain all of it.
Everything he said about Dragonspyre is so true and his ideas surrounding it make me wish he can write something for the world someday no matter which game it's in And him standing his ground on Wiz arc 4 yessss!!! It's such an underrated arc and I'm glad he still feels good about it
Not him saying before they just ripped content from Wizards they ripped the structure. 5 streets for 5 skyways? These games have their own unique identifies and player bases. No wonder Pirate fizzled when they kept trying to force it into the wrong shaped hole.
@@king-syed but they continued with similar systems and have repeatedly pulled in Wizard101 content. Pirate101 never stood a chance because it was never treated like its own unique game by the company. It was an off branch of Wizard101. If it works where we are making money, it will work here too. And I’m not saying we didn’t love Pirates101, but I’m saying playing Pirate101 you could tell it wasn’t the priority and we got recycled content. It was easier to get non Wizard101 players to play Pirate101 than it was Wizard101. And those were the customers they should have focused on to make the game successful and it’s not the approach they ever took.
@@KingSwiftieTV I dont think that's necessarily true. they're the same universe so of course there's gonna be similarities, plus they're the same company. game design and structure will be similar. Also, i dont think pirate101's combat was that appealing to people back then. I enjoyed it but i know other people didnt when the game first dropped. it's definitely overshadowed no doubt.
Yeah no he’s talking about structure in the video. It’s important to remember that Pirate101 shares the same universe as Wizard101 which is why they share content.
This is awesome, thanks Pluto for hanging out with Sam for a couple of hours!
Thank you so much! ❤ and I cannot wait to play Ravenwood Academy! Needless to say, Sam got me hyped 😆
It's games like Pirate and Wiz that inspired me to professionally pursue game design. Thank you, Sam & KingsIsle team!
Why did Khrysalis turn Dzorak into an Emo LARPer
I appreciate how honest he was about some of the stuff that goes on behind closed doors.

WOOOOO NEW PIRATE WRITING WOOOO
WOOOOO! 🎉
Not corporate saying that people were losing interest before the pay wall was there so they needed to move it up. But now no one can experience enough of the game to actually understand the game to pay.
Truly a decision of all time give people less free story content of course that will keep new players
Thank you so much for making this video, Pluto. It’s a blast listening to the writer talk about every world he’s worked on.

50:51 That’s my favorite joke too, I quote it daily!
Congratulations Pluto. This is so amazing. Thanks for sharing.
So cool! Thank you so much for doing this
I’m glad after Lemuria and Novus they toned it back down for Wallaru. Top world for me tbh
Novus S tier fully agreed.

Centaurzan was my favourite character in Lemuria, probably even in the entire game.
I'm glad he also thinks she deserved more.
No Khrysalis in here but I have a feeling he's based and would rank it S tier.
Crazy congrats on this video
THE BETTER GAME YUHHHH
I wonder who these mysterious "other" writers are and who wrote this falls update. Sam Johnson's "Secret Weapon".
Not him saying before they just ripped content from Wizards they ripped the structure. 5 streets for 5 skyways? These games have their own unique identifies and player bases. No wonder Pirate fizzled when they kept trying to force it into the wrong shaped hole.
That was the first world that they worked on. I dont blame them for making that kind of move, especially when Cool Ranch is such a loveable world.
huh?
