My only experience with Platinum so far has been the Preppy. I've had it with me for almost 10 years, since high school. I actually thought I'd lost it about three years ago. I found it last month, still inked up with Noodler's Ottoman Rose. Out of curiosity, I tried writing with it, and it wrote beautifully as soon as the nib hit paper. Three years, and it hadn't dried up! Thoroughly impressed.
I started doing some research into Japanese fountain pen companies and discovered that Platinum is the only one of the apparently most well-known three (if you include Namiki as part of Pilot) that offers an adapter so you can use its pens with international cartridges. I think nibs.com sells the adapters for one dollar each, which is definitely a worthwhile price. While looking at what Platinum had to offer last month, I saw that the Procyon was set for release soon, and it looks like a beautiful pen. The aesthetics of the deep sea finish pen really appealed to me, and the description of its features on the site attracted me as much as the look. I started dreaming of getting one, but I've pretty much blown my new fountain pen budget for the year already, so maybe I'll get one next year. My minor obsession with finding out more about this pen persisted, though. Of course, nobody had any reviews yet when I first heard about it, so I've been disappointed by a lack of info that wasn't from the manufacturer itself. Just today, I stumbled across this video, and now I'm a subscriber. Thanks for providing the first review I've seen for this, and I actually found it by accident. I'm happy with the serendipity of this find. I don't own any Platinum pens yet. If I get a Platinum in the near future, it will almost certainly be the Procyon. It's currently at the top of my list, thanks in part to your review.
I do love the 3776, and after a couple of attempts, I found the nib that was right for me. But, for bang for your buck... for any pen from any brand, you can not beat the Preppy.
Your presentations and analyses of various pens, including the Platinum Procyon are wonderful to view. I find it a welcome treat to experience your own acknowledgment of your personal biases in terms of your preferences. To be sure the Platinum brand is an excellent one in terms of affordability and quality. Thank you for sharing your insights.
My fav Platinum pen is the Preppy. It was a good starter pen for me and they were affordable. Now I have quite a few different pens including the Pilot Vanishing point which I love.
The 3776 has to be my favorite, possibly in the top three of all my pens. The soft nib just feels so alive when I write with it (odd description I know, but that's just how it feels!). And thanks again for another chance to win!
The only Platinum I have in my collection as of yet is the Carbon Desk Pen, which I picked up on authority that it had an exceptionally fine nib. I use fountain pens for drawing, so I'm one of those weirdos who always guns for EF or F! And for anyone curious, that hunch was right, the Carbon lays down a satisfactory line without being dry, but it really shines during reverse writing - it's hair thin but very consistent!
I have been looking forward to this review for a couple of months, ever since I found out about the new model. Thank you for taking your time to make this video 😊.
The only platinums I have are two preppys. They are decent pens I am not afraid to carry around at work. I do want to try some of the other nib sizes since I find the extra fine quite scratchy on regular paper. I love the look of the darker Procyon and it is within the price range I was thinking of for my next pen
This pen has caught my eye since I've seen it and appreciate the opportunity for the give away. I have only used the Preppy and it works well enough for me. Thanks again for your thorough review.
Thank you David, I was aware of this pen, but not the nuanced finish that doesn't really show in the other photos I've seen. The close up photos you took are really great. My favorite Platinum is the 3776 Shungyo.
My first Platinum was a Preppy. I still have it in my day bag and it always just writes. Love the look of the Procyon as I am not a great fan of cigar shaped pens. Thanks again for another great review.

I own a 3776 and love it, but I'll admit I find the looks of this pen very attractive, and that blue color is just gorgeous.
I absolutely love the lamy 2000, it has a truly magnificent design that looks like it came out this year. It will last you a lifetime and with its looks and precision, who wouldn’t like to have it around?
I have a Platinum 3776 and that is really my only experience with Platinum pens. The feed on this Procyon really interests me. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks. The 3776 Bourgogne catches my eye. I haven't written with one, but I got the chance to hold one at a pen show, and it is exactly the size and fit for me.
Great review, as usual. I have several Platinum pens and like all of them for various reasons. I'm especially fond of flat end pens so this one appeals.
My favourite Platinum pen is the 3776, Chartres Bleue in SF. The feed doesn't really keep up with any fancy flexing, but the pen looks smashing. I'd love to try the Procyon, the matte finish seems nice.
Interesting pen I'm glad to see companies like Platinum trying new things. I love to try it out and see how it does with a variety of inks. Thanks for another great video!
I really enjoyed the history of Procyon being named after a star. I currently own a Platinum Preppy. Thanks for an informative video. I really like the idea of mixing custom colors for ink. Donna
I have most of the Platinum line, and one of my favorites is the 3776. Although I must say, the preppy as an eyedropper is always ready to go on my desk. Thank you for your detailed review.
I was going to make my first foray into Platinum pens with the Preppy, but after watching your review, I am definitely thinking Procyon may be the way I go. Thank you for this! As always, I love your reviews!
This is a very good looking pen! I like the variety of colors, ranging from from the office friendly color you showed to bright fun colors. I really want one.
I like the looks of this pen and its translucent feed section. I like to see whether I have ink left. Agree that it would have been nice to acknowledge its name sake. Thanks for your review!
Thanks for the review. I've never used a Platinum fountain pen, but have been quite satisfied with their Japanese competitor Pilot. I am intrigued by the sealing mechanism in a pen of this price, and think that would be helpful to me because I tend to use pens intermittently. The nib design intrigues me with respect to being able to fill from the bottom of the well. Even your video details on the Platinum cartridge design were helpful; I have heard from other sources that they refill nicely and last for a significant period of time.
I have a Platinum 3776 with a architect nib from The Nibsmith - Dan Smith and it preforms very good. It’s originally a broad nib and is like a fine on the down stroke and like a medium/broad on the side stroke.
I've always liked to haves few platinum preppies lying around on my desk but I've been eyeing the PLT-5000a for a while now. This Procyon may also join that list.
Thanks for the review. I’m excited about this pen. The only Platinum pen that I have is a Preppy and I love it. This will probably be my next Platinum pen.
Yes, a very attractive pen all round. In particular I like the design of the nib. I too would go for the medium nib version, if I were to be ever lucky enough to have one.
Another great review David. I have 3 of the 3776’s and love them all. Had to finally get a medium nib before I got one that was not way to fine for me. I use the EF and F I have but not nearly as often as the medium.
I've been looking forward to the release of this pen for a while now, so it's good to hear your thoughts on it. My favorite Platinum is my #3776 Century, but I also quite like my Preppies. Thanks for the review/giveaway!
I’ve been wanting a 3776 but am not a huge fan of the cigar shape. This Procyon, with its flatter top and end cap is more to my liking. I do believe this will be going on my wish list. I may even get one for my husband for his birthday. Thanks for the giveaway and the great review.
I'm a big fan, as are most, of the 3776 Century. I also like the PTL-5000A, which is a great bargain for a gold-nibbed pen. I haven't had too much success with the Preppy's, as mine always seem to crack, leading me to go the Plaisir route at the lower end of the Platinum spectrum. Thanks again for your videos!
Great review! Despite my age, I am a fountain pen newbie and have not tried the Platinum line yet. In my research, I have heard and seen a lot about the Preppy, though. I like the looks of the Procyon better than the other pens you showed.
Thanks for the review and giveaway! I've been dreaming of buying a Platinum 3776 - probably in the Chartres Blue finish - but it's a little bit outside my budget at the moment!
I only own a single Platinum pen, the Preppy 05! It's currently inked with Diamine Majestic Blue-Black, one of my favorite inks. I do love the pen! I think for its price, you can't beat it at all. I do really like the look of this pen, though... Thank you for running another giveaway!
Thanks for the vid. I am interested bc I just purchased the Procyon in Citron sort of off the cuff bc I liked the price point and I really wanted to try another brand. I have Kaweco, Lamy, Twisbi, Pilot & Visconti; just a baby in this hobby! But then I saw these interesting colors and once the sales rep inked it for me, I couldn't believe the quality in the feeling/weight/texture/nib. Mine is a med nib and its just perfect. I do agree that the ink provided is a bit dry but it's just perfect for work bc it will dry faster which is important. The Citron is so energizing and fun for spring/summer and the overall simplicity is quite stunning. I was actually looking at the Lamy 2000 bc I am a fan of Lamy however I didn't want to spend that much so in comparison, this pen is not the usual black and silver, very fun, posts and writes well, is very nicely weighted when posted and has a sleek, streamlined design, and I love the grip, the rings are smooth and the tapered grip is very comfortable. I am using the cartridge included but look forward to experimenting with the converter in time. The 4 cartridges are a bonus and their including them really makes me want to try Platinum ink blending; how cool is that? Packaging is nice too. I can't afford to collect for the sake of collecting, the pens have to work and fit in my life, my E D C, at work and at home. This beauty nails it for me. It's worth going over $100 which is Canadian $$ to get the quality. I appreciate their attention to detail vs price. A winner.
Looks like a nice pen. If I were buying one for myself, I would probably go for a Medium to Broad. My only experience with Platinum pens area the preppy and an older, discontinued metal pen. It may have been called a Knight. Platinum cartridges aren't readily available in the area where I live and buying VIA mail order doesn't seem cost effective to me. Their twist converters are great, but I could buy two or three Preppies for what they cost. I found some slide converters on eBay which I use with the Preppies.
Handsome pen. I was hoping the longer tines would translate into a bit more variation in line thickness. Agree with you about the star - they could have had fun with that.
Thanks for the review. The whole procyon pen in that particular color reminds me of starry winter nights. Lovely. Procyon just made my wish list, joining Platinum Plaisir. I like the fine Platinum nibs best of any pen I own. I think I like to feel the paper. Wishing myself luck in your give away. Thanks again, Robbin
I really enjoyed my platinum preppy it was my first platinum. I since have purchased platinum 3776 with a fine nib. I really like it. I think hold it further back and posted works great. oh my gosh, you keep reviewing the pens that I am most interested in. I've been reading and watching all the Japanese reviews for the Procyon. I was also wondering, do you speak any Mandarin? I had wished you had found a calligraphy shop or class in China to show off. it's a much more commonly respected tradition over there.
My favourite Platinum pen is the 3776 Black Diamond UEF. Preppy is an easy recommendation though as it's such a solid but cheap pen! Have been looking at the Platinum balance/cool (for the bouncier nib) and procyon (I like the design look, has the slip n seal, and the breather hole position is interesting).

You are my hero. It's the first review which shows the recipes for the special inks. Thanks a lot.
I bought one last summer when I was in Osaka. It is my favorite fountain pen so far.
I love the look of flat top pens. Can't wait to see the Procyon in person. Thanks for your videos.

Looks like another nice product from Platinum. Thanks for the review.
I have been looking forward to this review for a couple of months, ever since I found out about the new model. Thank you for taking your time to make this video 😊.
I've always liked the looks of the President, but the Procyon is now on my list as well. Thanks for the review!

Great review, David! Just started getting back into fountain pens and am enjoying your channel!
I saw these at the D.C. show and liked the design. I plan to get a standard black 3776 for my birthday next month. Great review as always!
Platinum 3776 Sai is my favorite. The clean look without the cap band makes it clean and clear. I like the look a lot.
Thank you David, I was aware of this pen, but not the nuanced finish that doesn't really show in the other photos I've seen. The close up photos you took are really great. My favorite Platinum is the 3776 Shungyo.
That looks like a very lovely pen! Thank you for the review!

I own a 3776 and love it, but I'll admit I find the looks of this pen very attractive, and that blue color is just gorgeous.
Thanks for this review. My only Platinums have been a Preppy and a Century 3776; the latter is my favorite but the former has been my best value pen!
Love pens that have an astronomy theme. Nice info about double stars, constellations, etc.

I'd love to try the Procyon, the matte finish seems nice.
I have a Platinum 3776 Century in blue, probably one of my best purchases.
Finally a review! As for the topic, my favorite Platinum pen is the 3776 Bourgougne Red / Chartres Blue. Both are great pens
This is an awesome looking pen. I can't tell which color I love the most.
Interesting pen I'm glad to see companies like Platinum trying new things. I love to try it out and see how it does with a variety of inks. Thanks for another great video!
Nice looking pen, and your usual great review, with some astronomical education thrown in.
I really enjoyed the history of Procyon being named after a star. I currently own a Platinum Preppy. Thanks for an informative video. I really like the idea of mixing custom colors for ink.
Donna
Thanks David! My favorite Platinum pen is the 3776, high quality and yet affordable.
Interesting addition to the Platinum family. I own two 3776s and a Plaisir. The Procyon will definitely be a good addition to my collection!
This is a very good looking pen! I like the variety of colors, ranging from from the office friendly color you showed to bright fun colors. I really want one.
The President is my favourite, I finally found one a few weeks back. Performance is impeccable, and it looks and felle great in the hand.
Great review, as always.....I do not currently own a Platinum pen, but I like the classic look of the Platinum 3776 Century pen - black.
Thanks David! I just bought a PTL 5000 A, and I love it. And would love adding this one to my pen stash...
The Custom Inks are a neat Idea, its nice how they include the ratios for the cartridges included as well.
Thanks for the review. The 3776 Century with a soft fine nib is my favorite Platinum model.
I have a Platinum 3776 with a architect nib from The Nibsmith - Dan Smith and it preforms very good. It’s originally a broad nib and is like a fine on the down stroke and like a medium/broad on the side stroke.
I have been eyeing several Platinum pens, especially the Century 3776. This Procyon looks pretty good.
Thank you for the review, David.
I've always liked to haves few platinum preppies lying around on my desk but I've been eyeing the PLT-5000a for a while now. This Procyon may also join that list.
Good review as usual. I really like the 3776 pens. They seem to allow me to use any ink without any flow problems.
Interesting pen and good overview. Custom mixable inks look like fun.
I love the Procyon design and have been waiting for it to come out for a few months. I love the persimmon orange especially!
Thanks for the review. I’m excited about this pen. The only Platinum pen that I have is a Preppy and I love it. This will probably be my next Platinum pen.
Thanks for the review. I own a soft fine 3776 and love it. Bought it from Japan. Keep up the great work!
I think its a nice looking pen. I like the idea of the mixable ink recipes too.
Yes, a very attractive pen all round. In particular I like the design of the nib. I too would go for the medium nib version, if I were to be ever lucky enough to have one.
Looks great, thanks for the review David. Looks like a slightly shrunken down Lamy Aion. I only have a 3776 (F), which I love.
I love my Platinum 3776 and think that the persimmon color of this pen would be fun. Thanks for a chance to win it.
The only Platinum pens I have are the Preppies but I intend to add a 3776 to the collection one of these days. Thanks for the review David!
Thank you David. The mixable inks are interesting.
I love the 3776. I especially like the B nibs and music nibs. I even have a vintage one from the late 70s with an ebonite feed.
I really like the look of the Procyon. Looks like I will be buying my first Platinum pen.
My favorite Platinum pen is currently the 3776 that my wife gave me for our anniversary. Love how it writes.
Thankyou for the review. Favourite platinum atm would be the 3776 kumpoo
I am looking to get a 3776 and love the look of the Procyon and the fun colors it comes in!
I've actually had my eye on the Procyon for a few weeks now-- the other Platinum offerings aren't really my style, but this one looks pretty sweet!
Thanks for your videos! Haven’t gotten a platinum pen beyond a preppy yet, but maybe this will be my first
Great review of an interesting new pen. I’m looking to pick up a Platinum 3776 with a Music Nib.
Love the look of this sleek pen.
I think this is the favorite platinum I want to pick up in Citron :-) Enjoying your reviews.. all you need to know and background
I have several Platinum Preppy pens converted to eyedroppers which I use for ink samples.
I have a cedar 3776 which I quite like. But my fave is my Izumo. LOVE the smooth urushi finish.
I only own a single Platinum pen, the Preppy 05! It's currently inked with Diamine Majestic Blue-Black, one of my favorite inks. I do love the pen! I think for its price, you can't beat it at all. I do really like the look of this pen, though... Thank you for running another giveaway!
So, I do not yet have a favorite, or any, Platinum pen but I do like the look of this pen and appreciate the good details in the review.
Love the look of this pen. Thanks for the review!
A winner.
I like this one...and that color too. I've been considering getting a Platinum Balance
I have been eying a 3776, but this pen looks more my style. A very dignified pen. Thanks for the review!
thanks for the review and giveaway! my favourite platinum so far is, of course, the preppy.
My favorite Platinum Pen is the Plaisir! I really like the capping mechanism and the fact that I can get a replacement nib/feed for $4 on a preppy.
Looking forward to trying this new addition to the platinum lineup.
I really like the one you are showing the body shape is great. Braking away from the cigar shape. The platinum is my go to pen in my edc rotation. How about any of you.
Thinking about things to write with for long sessions this is a strong contender it looks.
Thanks for the review, from Platinum I only have the Cool and I like it but has a baby bottom and depending on the ink, it may skip a little.
The Procyon is actually the first Platinum pen that I have on my wishlist. Great features and price point.
I definitely think it looks very classy.
oh my gosh, you keep reviewing the pens that I am most interested in. I've been reading and watching all the Japanese reviews for the Procyon. I was also wondering, do you speak any Mandarin? I had wished you had found a calligraphy shop or class in China to show off. it's a much more commonly respected tradition over there.
Hi David, my favorite Platinum pen to date is a 3776 with a soft fine nib. A joy to write with. Thanks for the GAW
Great review. That's a good looking pen. 😊
Nice looking pen. I’d have to order the medium nib. Thanks for the review.
