  • The purpose of the Brakimo (pronounced BRAH-key-moe), designed by Joe Flowers, was to be a backup to a machete or to serve as a main camp knife. He runs a survival school of sorts called Bushcraft Global, which takes people of all skill levels into the Amazonian jungle to teach them survival skills. Not just skills specific to the jungle, but a mindset that will serve people regardless of location. He needed a knife that could be the flagship knife of the company and has designed the Brakimo to fit that need.

    Today I received my first Tops knife which was a Brakimo and holy crap its awesome ! I will be buying more Tops knives you guys just became my favorite knife company .
    FOR THOSE SHOPPING AND CONSIDERING THIS KNIFE BUY IT !
    If you have been looking for a great camp/Bushcraft knife BUY this one its perfect. I was concerned about the handle being to thin but I actually think it's a great design. I usually wouldn't like this type of grip but for this knife it just works it feels like a high quality tool . The stone wash finish is perfect and mine has the metal clip I'm so happy it wasn't the plastic one .
    The high scandiVex is also wicked sharp and the grind angle is so true that when you make feather it doesn't skip on the wood that's a sign of a good even grind.
    Anyways TOPS thanks for the great product its worth every penny , I got me an MSK coming soon so now I'm even more pumped to see it 😁

    Very nice👍🏻. I believe Joe and Tops don't get enough credit for their work in the bushcraft world. I think one of those will go nice with my bush crafter 7.

    My kids just gave me one of these as a gift. It sure looks good. My sheath has a metal clip instead of plastic. Now I just need to figure out which one I'll carry in the field more - the Apache Dawn Rocky Edition or the Brakimo.

    It would be amazing if you could add a hardened ninety degree spine on the Brakimo. I use sharp spines for ferro rods, making fluff tinder, fleshing hides, etc. I try to mainly use those spines because the give me a greater and more secure purchase on the spine when needed

    TOPS rarely skimps on the sheaths, like the nice one the Brakimo comes with. Love having a sheath that doesn't have to be immediately replaced.

    I love this design all the way down to the arrow straightener. It was exactlly what I was looking for save for one thing: It doesnt have a pertruding tang at the rear. To me that is a major thing as I like to bury my knife in tree trunks to be used as a plane, for thinning down the limbs of bows or making axe handles for example. I would feel much better about hammering on the knife if it had a couple of militers pertruding at the back. The search continues.

    Nice basic design with few (if any, really) bells and whistles...I will be ordering one of these as funds allow...must have been fun chopping through those branches with such a short blade ...really though, nice design...

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah. pretty small to be a solid chopper, but by chocking back and letting one or two fingers hang off the end of the blade, it actually did pretty good on the smaller branches.

    Cool! So is this a true scandi grind or scandivex like on the Tops BOB and the MSK?

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. It's our modified Scandi grind same as the BOB and MSK.

    In the past I made my own Knive and it looks exactly the same. The diverenses where only in size because my Knive is only 4,5 inch long and the leniadhole is not so big.

    Nice knife and I'm 100% it will do the job required of it but it just a different version of the Fieldcraft BOB knife. It's why I click the link in the first place. OK, looking at mine, the screw are different - HA!

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BOB and Brakimo both have modified Scandi grinds, but the two knives actually function quite differently.

  • @theaveragewoodsman6002

    Really good looking knife and I like the overall design. Although, it's way too thick for a bushcraft knife IMO.

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have a knife that is 1/8" thick with similar style (slightly shorter) called the Dragonfly. Maybe that one is more up your alley.

      Cool. That Lite Trekker is also a Joe Flowers design.

  • @MrMatthew7000

    what's the advantages of the nylon clip? while it won't bend as easy as metal, seems like it would wear easier and eventually bend permanently as opposed to being able to bend a metal one back with gripping pliers.. just saying

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The metal clips tear some people's belts up, so we looked for a solution that would be easier on clothing. You'd have to be constantly opening and holding it open for it to bend that way.

    • @MrMatthew7000
      @MrMatthew7000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, thanks! The metal ones tend to dig into my back with a tracker sheath as well. Maybe these will be more forgiving..

  • @HaroldDGlez

    does it have a 90-degree spine for the Magnesium Fire Starting ???

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The knife has a differential heat treat. So the spine is softer than the blade edge. Because of that, we do not make the spine 90 degrees.

    Everybody loves coke bottle shape handles yet you don't listen to customers desires. This knife sucks by the way. I'd take the B.O.B. over this every time even if you paid me to take the brakimo I still wouldn't take it.
