The most unrealistic part of the skit was the fact that the university would even consider spending money on the nutrition faculty because nutrition alumni make like zero money (me)
I had to transfer schools because my first school upped tuition after my freshman year so they could, quote "keep providing free events for students like movie nights and yearly festivals" and they wanted the tuition difference paid 2-3 weeks before school started again. They refused to provide any sort of payment plan for the extra couple thousand, I had to just have it. Good news is my second school gave me a sh*t ton of scholarships to transfer. Also, they aren't free events if you're adding it to our f*cking tuition! I didn't even have time for or enjoy events and I was being charged for them. Trash.
@robmack519 I wish I could but if I do some people may know who I am and TH-cam is my only safe social media space from a digital stalker from that school. Not risking it lol
@@eudaemoniccyes, for non EU citizens it’s pretty expensive, but I’m not sure if it’s as expensive as in USA. Also, there are stipends and some universities offer free programs if you know a certain language, have nice grades, etc.
My university can't stop building brand new reseach centres despite the crippling housing crisis in our city, meaning students have nowhere to live. They were telling people, "just don't come here if you can't find a place to stay 🤷😘"
This is so real. I graduated this year but my university has been doing a $300 million remodel to the basketball stadium and a $10 million common area (giant slab of concrete with lights and benches) between some science buildings, while those same buildings and others all over campus are falling apart. Insane.
My former university just kept building massive football stadiums. It's got three now (although last i heard, a fourth one was in the planning stages, but that was awhile ago. For all i know it's already either underway or completed.) Meanwhile the teachers were underfunded and many were just straight up replaced with either student teachers or teachers that were already starting to retire and wouldn't STOP talking about retiring "in just a few months". They also purposely made the 100 & 200 level courses difficult and painful as all get out (and used the less qualified teachers for those courses to boot) while the 300 & especially the 400 level courses were SO easy there was almost never anything to do. (But at least they were super interesting, and the professors were ACTUALLY professors and WEREN'T trying to get out/retire.) It was literally a bragging point of our school that the freshman and sophomores would have to work twice if not sometimes three times as hard to get to the upperclass level citing the reason was to "build tougher students or weed out the ones who couldn't cut it." For some reason they thought that system was a good idea and thought it an even BETTER idea to highlight that info in our freshman orientation. Like, what?!?! Whats even worse: my mom's a therapist and at one point we lived in the same area/city as my former uni. We've moved since then, but ev today soooo many of the clients she still sees are either students who have actual truama from that very campus because of the way they actively do not help their students, or her clients work for the university and have trauma from the way they continuously keep getting screwed over. I'll never forget the best part, though: back in the height of COVID, our uni literally had a "spy & rat" program in which they printed out and plastered flyers ALL OVER campus asking students to "Watch, Listen, Report: if you see students refusing to comply with our campus's mask mandate, or see signs from your fellow students that they are sick (such as coughing, or they seem otherwise ill) and believe they shouldn't be in class, please privately record this information including location, date, and names of all parties involved and return it to your dean. It's on all of us to keep our campus safe!" Those stupid flyers will forever be burned into my frigging brain.
When I was at Texas Tech, they built a *full on lazy river, connecting to hot tub area, water slides, a ‘beach’, during which tuition increased by $1,200, twice.* I complained about it till checking it out, and considering that there’s nothing to do in Lubbock, its 4 hrs away from anything else, and how much they already invest into each discipline of engineering, (rather than trying to cram them all into one building like most school) with new labs, research equipment, plus fact I’d spent the past 3 yrs slaving away trying to survive the intense engineering & math curriculum. When I finally went to the lazy river & hot tubs to take a break from studying for finals, it was so relaxing, felt like I was transported to Schlitterbahn, relieving my overwhelming anxiety about finals for the day. Then, I’d go back any time the stress was getting to me, and in those moments made me feel like the increase in tuition was totally worth it. (I’d go from a nervous wreck to literally passed out in the hot tub). Plus, being around water forced my nerd a$$ to put the books & notes down. Though, I’m sure it could be a distraction for freshman, and mainly serves a marketing purpose, _“look what we’ve got that UT/A&M/Baylor doesn’t have!”_ *For most schools, I’d say such a thing is too excessive,* _but you can’t imagine how little there is to do in the great big empty plains of west Texas._ (Edit: Other than BINGE DRINKING, which, seemed like the primary and only ‘hobby’ to have there, very problematic to say the least. - terrible, heinous drunk/drugged driving incidents were too common. Even the statistics show the city to have the highest rate of drinking & driving, alcoholism in all of Texas. So I think providing as many other outlets/activities as possible could help people/college kids learn to go to the gym/pool for stress relief rather than straight to the bars)
This is So true though. I think there were 4 dorms at my school that had AC? The life science building had exposed, flaking asbestos, and the math complex literally had a crumbling one story spiral staircase with no railing as the main way in But! The international student dorm now has a dining hall! And they've expanded off campus housing (at a premium) if you really hate the dorms so much!
They'll be doing any grand shit EXCEPT doing something that's actually useful for students. And the tuition fee by 100 bazillion dollars, TOTALLY UNRELATED.
Right before I left they opened a brand new supermarket-sized health and wellness center. Ummm… it was not a clinic and we already had a work out room that I took several classes in. From the lobby it appeared to be like a gym with some supplements.
I wonder how many stories in this comment section are real. Why would anybody tell a horror story about a college that screwed them over and not name the college? if they screwed you over that bad, don't you want other people to know who it was so they can avoid it? Any story like that that doesn't name who did it makes me think it's made up.
My university is notorious for building a new building every year and just abandoning the old ones. At this point, I think there are more abandoned "historical" buildings than functional ones on campus. It's cheaper to claim they have "historical significance" and poorly preserve them rather than deal with properly demolishing buildings full of asbestos, lead pipes and paint, mold, and formaldehyde treated lumber.... It causes tuition to increase $10k/yr....
My school kicked me out during the pandemic for being poor, denied me CARES funding three separate times in the process, then built a 40 million dollar expansion for the football stadium. I WISH these were jokes but your public 4 year is more akin to an investment firm than it is anything else.
Sounds about right, normally universities need payment. The HEERF funds through Cares could provide you like $1250, that's really just emergency expenses, not to fully pay for housing let alone tuition. I just looked up where I graduated from... $120k for a four year in-state degree. Totally insane. Thankfully I'm in the position to save a few grand a year into a 529 for my kids to have this opportunity as well.
I love the "unrelated" every time he increases tuition 😂
Guys he didn't say it was unrelated at the end, I think it might be related, at least that one
