Love my 86. Pushing about 425 to the wheels with just bolt ons and a tune. I get 22 MPG on the hwy too when I'm not flooring it. Great cars. Oh yeah, and it's got AC.
The 1982 Grand Natiinals were produced simply as commemorative pieces to highlight the Nascar achievement It was a highly limited edition piece offered to very few dealers I have 2
If I knew what I know now, I would have bought one back at that time! I have purchased a mid 80’s Monte SS, still have it and modified. Missed out on a classic at a decent price!🚘
No not that McLaren unless your referring to ASC (American sunroof company) McLaren then yes that McLaren. The McLaren car company builds supercars ASC McLaren just takes a factory vehicle and adds visual and performance features. They done alot of different types of vehicles, but now out of business since 2017.
Luv you Brother for the education on my dream car I’ve had about seven Buick regal‘s but none of them can come close to the Buick grand national any thoughts on where I could purchase one and turn in or trade in my German vehicle BMW 😳😂
They were "under rated" because Hydramatic would not warrant anything over 365 ft-lb!! So the dyno producted 365! We had a water injected engine that would do 0-60 in 4 sec flat. But water injection was never released as it wouldn't pass a durability test@@
Nope no other cars besides the Grand National. From the factory the GNX was faster than the Grand National, it would take long for the Grand National to catch up and surpass the GNX with the aftermarket. By the early 90's certain people were burning new chips for performance enhancements and pulling out every trick in the book to get more power out of the dated off-center pushrod v6. The 3.8L v6 is not a great engine, it might hold a little more than 750hp but not for long. Even with forged internals and billet main caps with ARP hardware. But the block was more than enough to handle the power from 87 and guys have pushed that little engine to pump out over 1000 whp and run mid 8s. Don't know their black magic to keeping the block together, but they do. A nice replacement block for 3.8L is the series 2/3 3800. It can handle a ton of boost on stock internals and you don't have to worry about blowing out a main cap or splitting the block when making big power. Yet another awesome block that has been swapped into a Grand National is the LV3 block. It's an ecotec3 fifth generation Vortec block, 4.3L with awesome flowing heads. It's based of the latest generation LT block with 2 cylinders lopped off. I bet with forged internal the 4.3L block is just as strong as an aftermarket aluminum block from TA Performance.
They bought turbo regals After the high speed chase and shootout in south florida Not grand nationals But had some special adders One notable was the deletion of the 124 MPH fuel pump cut out out of the EEPROM And special gun racks
Thank you Kendrick

The 87 Grand national was the fastest production car built in 1987. Even faster then anything else coming in from Europe
It was the fastest accelerating car production car, not the fastest car. The 88 Callaway Corvette sledgehammer was the fastest until the Bugatti.
C&D tested the GN and got a 0 to 60 time of 4.9 seconds! they still can't wrap their minds 'round that but the computers don't lie hehe

I want a grand national so bad!! But they are SOOOO expensive now!

That's very sad that McLaren is out of business and ASC too. There is an abandoned ASC facility here in Southgate, MI.
Everything they is to know. I owe an 86!

I wish I knew where to find one! They are getting super hard to find
Good info
🙏
In 87 the engine didn't get any tweaks
It was simply a publicized HP rating for 87
Same engine
Same ECM
same chip
I happen to be one of the lucky 2000 to own the 84

The FBI also bought some of these. That would have been great to mention.
I actually didnt know that. Must have missed that in my research Haha. But thanks for letting us know!

You could actually buy a grand national off the lot
3000 dollars 12 seconds or mid 12s..quarter mile. Scary cars. Compete with today's muscle 3 gs investment. 12sec.... these cars are too expensive.
Babe ieye am the truth
