I had the honor of playing bass in that band for a few months in '69. Probably the best band I ever played with. Thanks for putting this one up here. They did this right after I left in Jan. '70 Btw, only three of us are still alive

December covid-19 2021 Yeah I know The Esquires are from Milwaukee. Just up the road from Chicago. You hear the Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions influence. The Esquires had some really good, early Regional hits back in the day. Man!!! What if ... I think had they advanced beyond Lamar records small independent label, they might have garnered better exposure, promotion, and distribution back in the day. They were uniquely-talented enough. After a brief music hiatus off-the-charts, then later came mid-70's "Girls in the city" It briefly got some good radio airplay in Chicago yet, It kind of came and went, but I remember, and always liked the song.
I read where Gilbert Moorer said he went to Curtis Mayfield but he wasn’t interested. They probably would’ve blown up if they went to Europe. When Edwin Starr went overseas he got bigger and died wealthier. Motown basically tossed him aside like they did a lot of its good artists.
Cruising the Mission and turning left on to 24th street blasting this Rola on my blaupunkt and jet sound equalizer man the hynas were very nice.early 1980's
There were some groups that were threats to the more “bigger” groups of that time such as the Unifics and yes, the Esquires. I read where the Unifics were so good that even the more famous names were afraid to go on before and after them. If they and the Esquires got the backing they needed they would have blown up. Also, didn’t Gilbert Moorer write and arrange their songs?

This one and ‘Dancing a hole in the world’ late 70/early 71. Great songs, I don’t know which one I like best.
Both great sound's but the best has got to be listen to me. Just my opinion
I recommend them in my 63 impala cruising down the street turning all the heads of the girls, and especially the older ones!
