  • 3 Day, 50 km trek in the Ala-Too range in Kyrgyzstan, from Jeti-Ögüz to Altyn-Arashan.
    While I had planned to complete the full Ak-suu traverse, all the way to Jirgalan, I quickly realized that I was here too early in the season and the snow was really killing my pace. Still, it was an awesome 3 days, and I hope to return again to complete the trek.

    I was also there in Central Asia around June. Still one of the best places that I've been. Made so many new friends there, and so many wonderful memories.

    Hey David. I am planning to travel next summer to Kyrgystan solo. I find a lot of information of hiking / group tours, but dream is to do it solo. How did you started? How did you find all this information? Can you help me? Thanx a lot. Tom

      Hello Tom, did you have any specific treks in mind?
      Agreed, there's not much info out there compared to some other trekking destinations, but it's also very cheap with fewer tourists and very little red tape.
      If you visit the local CBT offices in any of the cities you should be able to find maps and up to date information on trail conditions. They can also be helpful in arranging transport. It will also help a lot to speak a little bit of Russian before you go.
      Good luck in your preparations, and feel free to ask if you have more questions.

    Hey david, planning on doing the ak-suu this summer, how early is "too early", june? may? thanks

    • @davidfancsali
      @davidfancsali  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It probably would be better to wait until July. I met some trekkers last year who had said that there was still lots of snow on the trail in early July.
      Good luck on your adventure!

    When did you do this hike? I’m going to do the ala kul trek next week. You think its possible?

    • @davidfancsali
      @davidfancsali  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was from June 10-12. Yes, it is definitely possible, but I would strongly recommend approaching the lake from the west, on the Karakol Valley side.
      If you are coming from the Altyn Arashan side (east), you still may encounter too much snow on Ala Kul pass.

      @@davidfancsali okay thank you! I’ve never been in kyrgyzstan before. Got any more recomendations or tips? Planning to spend around 2-4 weeks there

    • @davidfancsali

      I think the Karakol region is a great start. It's one of the best places and is easily accessible. The same is true of Ala Archa Park near Bishkek.
      I'm in the south of the country at the moment looking into hikes in the Alay mountains and/or Sary Chelek nature reserve, so I can let you know how that goes.

      @@davidfancsali okay that sounds awesome. How do you find traveling the country so far? Is it difficult or expensive?

    • @davidfancsali
      @davidfancsali  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johanjarnestrom8854 It's quite cheap traveling here, but in some areas of the country transportation can be slow and difficult to arrange.
      Also, it helps a ton to learn some Russian.
