Perhaps I’m just annoyed about it not being a happy ending but I didn’t get any sleep after watching this and just checking these vids out makes my stomach churn… Maybe me venting on a random 1 month old YT comment will solve my depression lmao

My English teacher said that's the point of tragedies: they make you constantly think about "what could have been." They don't leave you satisfied, so your brain ponders the story more and gets a more true understanding of the tragic characters and their flaws. If there is no consequence to their tragic flaw, then the impetus to learn from it fades away.

When he was mentioned in a dialogue somewhere at the beginning of the series, I realized that there would be no happy ending.
Good quote! But Adam Smasher was mentioned wayy later, right after the time skip in episode 7, by Ripperdoc when David goes in for more implants. So the real Chekhov's Gun were the constant reminders that nobody comes outta Night City alive, that happy endings don't exist and that nobody's special, not even David. No exceptions. But he ignores all the numerous times he's reminded of the truth and carry's on until you-know-what happens with his mind.
When they talked about Adam Smasher doing crazy stuff and also that legendary hacker doing crazy stuff, I was expecting to see some crazy stuff happen by the end. Like a promise from the writer to the reader to tell him what to expect
Even as far back as the tabletop game, hearing about Adam Smasher was enough to send dread into players. Because if he ever showed up in a campaign being ran by the GM, it was a guarantee to more than likely be a total party kill. The only person who went up against Smasher and lived to tell about it was Morgan Blackhand. The fact that Falco and Lucy survived because David gave his life to save them was a miracle, because the outcome could have been worse than what we saw.
It's up to us, what to choose and I'll choose this just because it tells me, even after going down the wrong path, one can come out stronger and live the way he wants to. I am just blabbering, I like this because it's a happy ending and I've got enough reality checks in life as is, I'd prefer this for my sanity.

The fact that it wasn’t a good ending and that people are making good endings to it shows how much meaning it had and impacted all of us how we can’t let go the bad endings and I really like that even though it still gives me depression
Because the whole point and message the anime is trying to tell is that Night City itself is a hellscape that the average people resort to crime to as being an only way to success from their lower class status, and that thousands die chasing that dream. V, Adam smasher, and Morgan Blackhand, are the only people that I can recall with poor backgrounds that technically made it alive to see their success through this route, they had to forgo everything that they attached themselves to in order to become what they are out of the thousands that are killed daily doing the same. These characters aren't as fortunate to have opportunities laid at them like V and smasher and come out alive, even Silverhand who had everything anyone could've ever wanted ended up dead sticking to the crime game. I don't think anyone would've felt as much to the characters if they were kept alive all the way to the end, and on top of that they're criminals, they understood full on the risks and consequences of doing what they did.
I feel like this encapsulates why people loved Edgerunners so much: it gave us a cast of characters we got invested in, that we wanted to see make it out, that we wanted to see live long futures after all they’ve gone through. It was truly devastating to see most of them get killed…but they live in Night City, the city that’ll chew you up and spit you out, and happy endings, if they even exist, are only for the people that can escape its grasp.
You know whats the 1 thing yeah? It was 10 episodes, We didn't get as much of them as every single one of us individually wanted. You usually grow tired of even the greatest of casts, this one we didn't get enough of.
Every time I think about Becca I wish Arasaka would have recovered her engram for the soulkiller project like they did with Johnny. I know it’ll never happen and it hurts more than it should. I just wish that her loyalty to David would’ve been rewarded instead of it being her downfall, given that in Night City that kind of loyalty is extremely rare. RIP best girl, gone but never forgotten.

That relic is theo only working prototype for the save your soul project, without it, Arasaka won't gonna be able to do anything.

fuck man, i just didn't know this show has sad a ending, my main goal in watching this show was to get rid of depression in my real life, i lost my lovely ones in the real life and yeah its fucked, and then i found this show banner across the internet, and i think it might be a good thing to minimize my depression because there's a beautiful white haired girl on the banner, and i might get some motivation to get girls after watching this show, but... the truth is more painful, on the show i feel so attached to the crew, and then watching them die one by one, and lastly rebecca and david must die too, its fucking sad man, i got more depressed after this show, fuckkkkk, wish I never ever ever have watched the show, fuck me.
Wanna know what makes this even more sad to me? I can honestly see this as a dream Falco has. Falco is across the whole comic besides maybe david the most prominent and clearly happy about how things turned out. Happy that David and Lucy got together. However what tips it off as potentially a dream is certain inconsistencies. Direction of davids rocket compared to the landing spot. Them breathing on the moon. (David i guess you could kinda argue cus cyberware MAYBE but Lucy had no gear on) And it kinda just feels like a fever dream. Feels like the sort of dream Falco might of had like a year after what happened and then woke up and shed a tear or two. But only that much cus ya know its Falco.
One of the holes i can punch in this is thr fact that the cyberskeleton completely severed the lower half of davids body. And his arms were as well, im pretty sure. Not to mention his Cyberpsychosis was too far gone, no amount of immunosuppressant would work at that point.
Seeing Rebecca wearing David's jacket, that right there made me tear it. To me it symbolizes that he's passing up that life and as a memento of the good times they had together.

He is basically Sundowner at this point. The chaotic cyborg who should beat the living shit out of you but can't lend a hit, I think he is more of an Alduin or Miraak, both are basically gods in their legends but when you fight them you beat them so easily. Alduin was easier than Miraak who was supposed to be the second best Dragon Priest, but for some reason Miraak could beat easily Alduin in the game and both could be defeated by the dragonborn without weapons.
Play the game!! It’s genuinely very good now (yes there’s still bugs but the vast majority of them are fixed) and there’s so much content and great storylines (even beyond the ones most people talk about- like some of the gigs having their own storylines and follow ups and all the questlines that come out of the blue and end up being amazing- Sinnerman, for example- and the main storyline itself which is very good- i know it isn’t perfect but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good.) Honestly there’s no real reason not to play the game at this point (unless you don’t have or don’t want to spend the money, which is fair.) I started playing about six months after release and with every update it gets better and better.

To be fair, it's a good attempt at changing the ending. Becca and david live, they both go to the moon, beca inherits one of her brother's hands, it's all very touching, but I feel it just wouldn't hit the same as how it ended originally. It's the end of David's story, he was suffering from major cyberpsychosis and no amount of un augmenting himself would change it at this point, so we knew it would be the end, and I accepted he was going to die, I cried the whole time thinking and watching that play out, but I was happy that Lucy, a girl that was defied everything because of her up bringing, and childhood, that she finally got to live, have a boyfriend, fall in love, and finally got to go to the moon. It is no longer David's story, it's Lucy's story now.
it feels just like, Lucy entered in high depression and this is the end that she expected to live, since She wasn't totally aware of the level of cyberpsychosis on david
@@PierrotKio She was aware, and she wasn't depressed, she was scared because she knew if David learned he was special he would add the exoskeleon to be stronger which would surely make him psycho. That's why she was hunting down runners on the side so Arisaka wouldn't know to use David, and David wouldn't know about his possible good compatibility with the exoskeleton.
That is actually true but the fact is that from the moment he entered in her life to the moment he died, David was the only reason for Lucy to live. Like when you look at all of their interaction, she jsut wanted him to be near. And the fact that he would just die like that is making me so sad for Lucy and David. I mean... They deserved better

1 year ago I lost a good friend to suicide, he had the same last name, cyberpunk had hit me real hard cause I really didn’t know what I was in for other than it was from studio trigger. Man just imagine when flying to the moon on a trip would be normal and you could talk to your friend there while looking at the moon. Just sounds absolutely insane but magical at the same time.
Through out my years of living this anime was the only piece of media that genuinely made me she'd tears and no that isn't an exaggeration. After the ending I say their in silence as the credits rolled I put the tv off and went to my room and we'll I balled my eyes out. This show honestly left a mark and I will remember it throughout my days
It's the opposite for me. IMO it's the ending I wanted, but not the ending David deserved. Both David and Lucy lacked the communication and trust necessary for a happy ending to have occurred. Their goals of saving one another were distorted into beliefs that they had to struggle alone. For a happy ending, David and Lucy would have needed a completely different relationship right after the time skip.

THIS IS THE CORRECT TIME COURSE KYLE! We've found it's design. We must remake the Time Course on this timeline or the alternatives, canonise the correct ones before C-orrector saw this as another mistake. This Ending must preserve and archived.
With the success of this anime, I hope to see more of it. You can tell though that they wrote it to be a one off, seeing as how most of the team is dead at the end. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing some of that ret-conned to make it into a proper series. Since it is based so close to the game in timeline, it'd be cool to see some of these character's stories branch into the game, like you never actually meet V or anything, but they inadvertently help each other and stuff like that. Either way I'm good. Anime was great. I wish they'd consider a happier ending though next time. Just because Night City swallows a lot of people up, doesn't mean that it ALWAYS has to.
everything that happened in the show is canon and heaps of stuff from the show is mentioned in game, V is told about David Martinez after finding the brain dance he watches in the beginning of the show and other items like Davids jacket and Rebecca's shotgun can be found. also a drink at the afterlife is named the David Martinez, Falco messages V telling him their crews gone dark but V and david are very much alike. so i think its far to late to retconn anything now, i think we are stuck living with everyone being dead and Lucy being alone.
The anime probably won't continue because Trigger doesn't like making anime that last more than 1 season, they just have 1 season anime and honestly the anime ended perfectlym
If they do another show I hope it focuses on another aspect of Night City. What I think would be *really* cool is if each "Season" we're done by a new Studio. Cause then we could have a bunch of fully fleshed out stories in the same universe by a bunch of different visionaries to really get the vibe for how diverse a place Night City is

Though I personally would prefer they keep using Trigger, but since they don't do more than one season, that's off the table. But yeah, a Second Season that focuses on another group of Edgerunners would be awesome. About the only thing I worry about is the writing not being up to par. Night City is a meat grinder, so there's not gonna be happy ending for that team either. So we've gotta make a group that's just as likeable/well-written as the David's crew. But aren't clones of that crew. Which I think would be the biggest challenge. A part of me doesn't want them to even try, because something in me tells me they'll fall short. But there's that part of me that wants to see them take a crack at it.

fuck man, i just didn't know this show has sad a ending, my main goal in watching this show was to get rid of depression in my real life, i lost my lovely ones in the real life and yeah its fucked, and then i found this show banner across the internet, and i think it might be a good thing to minimize my depression because there's a beautiful white haired girl on the banner, and i might get some motivation to get girls after watching this show, but... the truth is more painful, on the show i feel so attached to the crew, and then watching them die one by one, and lastly rebecca and david must die too, its fucking sad man, i got more depressed after this show, fuckkkkk, wish I never ever ever have watched the show, fuck me.

Wanna know what makes this even more sad to me? I can honestly see this as a dream Falco has. Falco is across the whole comic besides maybe david the most prominent and clearly happy about how things turned out. Happy that David and Lucy got together. However what tips it off as potentially a dream is certain inconsistencies. Direction of davids rocket compared to the landing spot. Them breathing on the moon. (David i guess you could kinda argue cus cyberware MAYBE but Lucy had no gear on) And it kinda just feels like a fever dream. Feels like the sort of dream Falco might of had like a year after what happened and then woke up and shed a tear or two. But only that much cus ya know its Falco.

One of the holes i can punch in this is thr fact that the cyberskeleton completely severed the lower half of davids body. And his arms were as well, im pretty sure. Not to mention his Cyberpsychosis was too far gone, no amount of immunosuppressant would work at that point.

Seeing Rebecca wearing David's jacket, that right there made me tear it. To me it symbolizes that he's passing up that life and as a memento of the good times they had together.

He is basically Sundowner at this point. The chaotic cyborg who should beat the living shit out of you but can't lend a hit, I think he is more of an Alduin or Miraak, both are basically gods in their legends but when you fight them you beat them so easily. Alduin was easier than Miraak who was supposed to be the second best Dragon Priest, but for some reason Miraak could beat easily Alduin in the game and both could be defeated by the dragonborn without weapons.
A happy ending? For folks like us? Wrong city. Wrong people.

Play the game!! It’s genuinely very good now (yes there’s still bugs but the vast majority of them are fixed) and there’s so much content and great storylines (even beyond the ones most people talk about- like some of the gigs having their own storylines and follow ups and all the questlines that come out of the blue and end up being amazing- Sinnerman, for example- and the main storyline itself which is very good- i know it isn’t perfect but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good.) Honestly there’s no real reason not to play the game at this point (unless you don’t have or don’t want to spend the money, which is fair.) I started playing about six months after release and with every update it gets better and better.
do not play the game there are CIA gangstalkers that constantly praise it in every comment section. Edgerunners was amazing but the game is an artistic failure.

Honestly I played it after watching the show and it is now my favorite game of all time
To be fair, it's a good attempt at changing the ending. Becca and david live, they both go to the moon, beca inherits one of her brother's hands, it's all very touching, but I feel it just wouldn't hit the same as how it ended originally. It's the end of David's story, he was suffering from major cyberpsychosis and no amount of un augmenting himself would change it at this point, so we knew it would be the end, and I accepted he was going to die, I cried the whole time thinking and watching that play out, but I was happy that Lucy, a girl that was defied everything because of her up bringing, and childhood, that she finally got to live, have a boyfriend, fall in love, and finally got to go to the moon. It is no longer David's story, it's Lucy's story now.

@@PierrotKio She was aware, and she wasn't depressed, she was scared because she knew if David learned he was special he would add the exoskeleon to be stronger which would surely make him psycho. That's why she was hunting down runners on the side so Arisaka wouldn't know to use David, and David wouldn't know about his possible good compatibility with the exoskeleton.
That is actually true but the fact is that from the moment he entered in her life to the moment he died, David was the only reason for Lucy to live. Like when you look at all of their interaction, she jsut wanted him to be near. And the fact that he would just die like that is making me so sad for Lucy and David. I mean... They deserved better

Most people misunderstood the "He was mine to kill", it was meant to Pilar but that's just the usual love-hate relationship between brothers. If she wanted to kill Pilar, she could have done it herself in many occasions.

1 year ago I lost a good friend to suicide, he had the same last name, cyberpunk had hit me real hard cause I really didn’t know what I was in for other than it was from studio trigger. Through out my years of living this anime was the only piece of media that genuinely made me she'd tears and no that isn't an exaggeration. After the ending I say their in silence as the credits rolled I put the tv off and went to my room and we'll I balled my eyes out. This show honestly left a mark and I will remember it throughout my days

It's the opposite for me. IMO it's the ending I wanted, but not the ending David deserved. Both David and Lucy lacked the communication and trust necessary for a happy ending to have occurred. Their goals of saving one another were distorted into beliefs that they had to struggle alone. For a happy ending, David and Lucy would have needed a completely different relationship right after the time skip.
Makes me wish that CDPR would actually make a Edgerunners prequel to CP77 where you have an alternate ending like this

With the success of this anime, I hope to see more of it. You can tell though that they wrote it to be a one off, seeing as how most of the team is dead at the end. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing some of that ret-conned to make it into a proper series. Since it is based so close to the game in timeline, it'd be cool to see some of these character's stories branch into the game, like you never actually meet V or anything, but they inadvertently help each other and stuff like that.
Either way I'm good. Anime was great. I wish they'd consider a happier ending though next time. Just because Night City swallows a lot of people up, doesn't mean that it ALWAYS has to.

everything that happened in the show is canon and heaps of stuff from the show is mentioned in game, V is told about David Martinez after finding the brain dance he watches in the beginning of the show and other items like Davids jacket and Rebecca's shotgun can be found. also a drink at the afterlife is named the David Martinez, Falco messages V telling him their crews gone dark but V and david are very much alike. so i think its far to late to retconn anything now, i think we are stuck living with everyone being dead and Lucy being alone.
The anime probably won't continue because Trigger doesn't like making anime that last more than 1 season, they just have 1 season anime and honestly the anime ended perfectlym
If they do another show I hope it focuses on another aspect of Night City. What I think would be *really* cool is if each "Season" we're done by a new Studio. Cause then we could have a bunch of fully fleshed out stories in the same universe by a bunch of different visionaries to really get the vibe for how diverse a place Night City is
@@Quickleaf Honestly that's kind of what I'm hoping for, as much as the ending broke me. I wouldn't want them to wave a magic wand and have everything that happened in the finale undone. Though I personally would prefer they keep using Trigger, but since they don't do more than one season, that's off the table. But yeah, a Second Season that focuses on another group of Edgerunners would be awesome. About the only thing I worry about is the writing not being up to par.
Night City is a meat grinder, so there's not gonna be happy ending for that team either. So we've gotta make a group that's just as likeable/well-written as the David's crew. But aren't clones of that crew. Which I think would be the biggest challenge. A part of me doesn't want them to even try, because something in me tells me they'll fall short. But there's that part of me that wants to see them take a crack at it.
