My wife, retired UA FA, used to always work Christmas for two reasons: she would trade with a mom with kids at home (we didn’t have) and the extra pay. She was very senior and could always avoid holidays but we both agreed to her working those and I went with her a couple of times when the loads were light.
The company definitely makes it worthwhile for you. I agree with you, Christmas is just a day. Once you have all the gifts exchanged what else are you going to do?
Great video FO/Darren! I definitely missed my calling; airline pilot was my first career choice (computers 'landed' in my lap first, so I ended up in IT lol) Thanks for sharing your world with us!
Thank you, my guess is you’re now back home. Hope you had a great trip. Thanks as always for a great video and Happy New Year. Gives a great inside as to what goes on in getting people from A to B… very complex but very organized.
Hello there! I just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful informative, wholesome, comprehensive, and fun videos - without the forced dramatics often found in other pilot content. I love aviation and always wanted to be a pilot, but I am terrible at math. My 7 year-old daughter loves it as well and we've started watching your videos together. We also live in the metroplex (Lewisville, underneath the final approach lane to runway 17L) and now whenever she sees a trip-7, she asks if I think "The Geek" is flying it. Thanks for helping me pass my love of aviation to her! She does have 1 suggestion that she told me I had to pass by you (she insisted and I want to keep her invested). In no way intending this as an insult lol, she said it would be cool if, instead of just filming you sit at a table explaining your trip, that you should set up a camera on the flight deck and do a time lapse video of the trip from take off to landing while you narrate over it. She said it would "help keep my attention so I'm not just staring at Mr Geek's face". Anyways, thank you for the wonderful work Sir!
Thank you very much for the compliments. I can’t have a recording of any kind while working. I also refrain from filming coworkers. Try and get her involved in the 99s , Women in Aviation and consider an OBAP ACE camp when she’s a little older.
So cool that you picked up the trip! Curious whether Inchon or Narita was more difficult. I remember you mentioned South Korea was your longest flight.
Appreciate the info you provide for how the international flights work. I’ve alway been curious on the how the airline chooses the variant of the 777 or 787 for a route to London vs Tokyo Narita.
Thank you. That’s outside my wheelhouse. I’ve been told the 777 can hold much much much more cargo than the 787 while the 787 uses much less fuel than the 777.
Always happy to see another one of your videos Darren! I was on the Haneda flight into DFW on Christmas day. We had a fantastic experience on your airline. Kept an eye out for you in the terminal & watched a couple of “Kirkland” 777s depart for LHR, wondered if that was you. Happy New Year!
Hope you n Juan Brown Brocoliro yourube Channel !Boring 777 American Airlines Brother gets on a same flight make is a good video !Also Capt Steveee !Flys safe !Love yalls fun n awesome work you do!Prayers always for you 3 !
Dude I think you were my United Pilot on the way to Manila, nonstop, from San Francisco. Maybe!? We completed the trip on 12/2 or 12/3, in less than 11 hours
Question about commuting, what happens if you dont make it to the flight you have to work, like if there were delays or anything of that kind. Since it’s your responsibility, I assume you just dont get paid for the flight? Or are there any other sort of repercussions?
Most airlines have commuter clauses. If I get a flat tire, stuck in traffic or have any kinda of commuting issue I alert the airline. I will be pulled from the flight(s) and I will not be compensated. If it is a continuous problem I could have a discussion with my Chief Pilot but as long as it is legitimate there should be no repercussions beyond the financial loss.
You are not bragging nor anything else for that matter, your only stating the facts about what your pay is. I find it just a matter of factly. My wife and I are the same.. we may cook something a little different or have Chinese takeout Overall how was the flight? would you rather do this instead of LHR?
Thank you. The flight was mostly uneventful. Just turbulence on the way and delays. I much prefer Asia over London mostly because I've been to London so many times.

If I was a pilot or flight attendant, I would work Christmas so people with young kids can have the holidays. They go by so quick.
It’s always a pleasure to see your videos. Straight forward great information about the time you spent doing your job. I love it take care

The story of my life too, except, I ended up in the financial industry!
Nice of you to share this info about the industry
Daren I love your videos in how you make it relatable to travelers.
Keep up the good work and on a side note:
Love the funky glasses!
Thank you very much.
I have a flight to NRT on the 31st. Really like your videos, happy landings

Great video, Darren! I hope the return flight went smoothly.
With a payday (s) like that i would happily work over Christmas. Well done!
😂😂😂 facts if I was a pilot I will work every holiday 😊
Congrats on winning Best Dad!!
Which version of the AA 777 do you prefer? The 200 or 300? Both have different engines obviously. Let us know :)
The 300 as it has a much nicer crew rest area. They fly similarly enough. The 300 can’t fly as high over the Atlantic as the 200 though.
So cool that you picked up the trip! Curious whether Inchon or Narita was more difficult. I remember you mentioned South Korea was your longest flight.
Korea was more difficult but I preferred the hotel and location to Narita.
Kind of disappointed, no husband of a scientist was mentioned lol
Interview with her coming soon!
Yeah but he got the "I hate the cold" in lol
He has to say those words? He mentioned his wife several times

Nope. Not me.

I traveled the world and one of my favorite bars in the world is the jet lag club in narita.
On Christmas Day do you not have a Christmas dinner planned?
No. That’s not something we have ever done in my family.
Have you ever flew with captain Steeeve😂😅
I have not
Love the thumbnail!!
Great video
Thanks!
Make hay when the sun shines
Happy Holidays! You are going to need a forklift to get your paycheck to the bank :)
