I really hated her getting an Eevee because she was the 4th Pokegirl getting an Eevee and I didn’t like Eevee being portrayed as a Pokémon for girls. Plus Eevee was getting so much overexposure while not giving us another Eevolution. I would given Ash an Eevee who would look up to Pikachu and then evolve into Jolteon, finally giving Ash his 2nd electric type Pokémon after 26 years.
I relate to this so much Eevee is supposed to be for both genders but they marketed towards girls, and for that stupid reason they genderlocked Eevee in PMD eos Espeon or Leafeon are the best candidates for Ash imo, they had almost zero screen time in the anime and only some cameos
Or give Brock and Eevee and somehow it accidently evolves into a leafeon, that way he has a pokemon to fight against water types and nobody would expect a rock type gymleader to send-out a grass type pokemon
@@darkdragon7210 it's a newer generation, as long as the mayority of their pokemon is the type their gym is famous for then why shouldnt they be allowed to have a random pokemon of a different type to catch players who expected a certain type pokemon off-guard? Honestly, Chloe was the perfect opportunity to explore a completely new idea for a Pokegirl. Have Chloe be the one challenging Galar's Gyms. She has the most 'Pikachu' partner in Eevee (which could have been a G-Max Eevee). Her inspiration could have been Ash, who is at his peak in this season and she could explore what she wants to do in life from the Galar Gym Leaders. It would also let all the Galar Gym Leaders appear in Journeys.
Considering how Eevee can't evolve if it has the Gigantamax factor... Maybe they could have had Chloe discover that her Eevee could Gigantamax. I dunno.
The worst part is that they had the opportunity to do more with her character: the filler episodes could've been used to create more chances to flesh her out, or at the very least give her more things to do, with or without Ash and Goh, so that she could've at least had more of a chance to shine. It's too bad, too, because she was very underutilized in the series, and Goh's character arc didn't really achieve much of anything particularly meaningful, especially for a character that was meant to be a secondary protagonist. It's because of this that I feel that Goh was arguably handled worse than Chloe: as one of two protagonists, people were at least somewhat invested in seeing Goh succeed on some level, which is why I think was partly why he became as disliked as he was. Chloe, on the other hand, didn't have the same kind of expectations because her presence wasn't felt to nearly the same degree as with Ash and Goh, leaving her feel like she was just kinda-sorta there; but despite that, I actually do think that the way she concluded her character arc was surprisingly satisfactory. What I'm getting at is that she was given her Eevee to try to figure out why it couldn't evolve, and while that was never revealed, it does lean into her eventually deciding to become a Pokemon researcher, which, in turn, may explain her initial dislike of Pokemon: I think that the reason for her not liking Pokemon is partly because she resents her father for putting more time into his research than paying attention to her, causing her to crave love and affection from the parent she feels she's not getting it from. This, in turn, leads to her taking up Pokemon research as a way to better connect with her father; I know this is more of a fan theory than anything, but I do think it provides some much-needed context as to why Chloe is the way she is for most of the series
It's baffling how they had SO MANY options to evolve Eevee and didn't pick ANY of them. Even Gigantimax would've done something to develop it, or at least justify why it couldn't evolve. But no. They just completely ignored it and Chloe, making them both a waste of time and ended the legacy of the Pokegirls in the worst way possible. Thank God for Liko.

The fact that we saw her get to know every Eeveelution and wondered what she would evolve Eevee into at the end of the series only for her to keep it as an Eevee in the end felt like a knife to the heart. I get that it might be realistic but it still makes it feel like everything she went through was a waste of time. What a completely pointless character.
Missed opportunity to not have Chloe’s eevee be a gigantamax eevee. After all, her whole gimmick was that she was unable to evolve so it would have been a cool concept to have it be revealed that the reason she couldn’t evolve was because she was a G max eevee.
wait what? I'm watching journeys now before they take it off Netflix, im all the way up to ultimate and during masters journeys she was in like almost every single episode? Everytime Goh and Ash were about to go out the professor or Chloe herself would pop up and say she should go, i started to think of her as the third of the group because of how often she'd adventure with Goh and Ash, up until she started to consider Eevees evolution possibilities she was in only a couple episodes but after that is constant i feel 🤔
Like the Journeys series, Chloe as a character was a mess since the very beginning. You can tell the writers never knew what to do with her. It felt like for Chloe and the Journeys series, there was a bunch of ideas given but there wasn’t a clear path chosen so it was like the writers made it up as they went along. I can’t even say that she had potential because potential for what?
For real, Chloe has also the least screen time then Ash’s other companion. But some some even call her the best girl or even better than Serena despite very short screen time and poorly developt.
It legitimately feels like they just wanted Goh to be one of the main characters, but HAD to have a female character out of obligation, so they made Chloe more of a side character.
Did anyone else think they intended for her Eevee to evolve into Leafeon? Like, think with me. Only time in the series that she took interest in doing something for herself (that wasnt something copied from a past pokegirl 😶) was an episode about looking after the gardens at her school. Also, when you look at the girl she met who looked just like her but with umbreon and espeon, that girl’s hair in the highlight had like the symbol from umbreon’s head. Chloe has a flower. Thats giving plants to me, so a grass type leafeon to help her out looking after the plants at school, and to parallel that girl in her class with the glaceon, it fits well
Meh, I think Chloe is actually an interesting character, but the writers just didn't seem to want to include her. Goh just doesn't work for what Journeys was doing with the duo protag thing imo. Honestly if Chloe was a part of the group in journeys I think it would have made for a much less bland dynamic than just Ash and Goh.
I love Eevee, its one of my favorites... But seriously why do all the female characters get Eevees? There are so many adorable Pokemon out there, give them a chance. :
The concept of a trainer who was afraid of Pokémon, got over that fear, and flip floping to different paths as a Pokémon trainer trying to find to their gotcha(sorry, been finish up Kamen Rider Gotchard) and what they might want to do is so good on paper. #cloewasdonedirty
I think what immediately turned me off about Chloe is when she first noticed Ash injured from an electric attack, and she just shuffled on by annoyedly without even batting an eye. Heartless.
4:47 this was literally a copy paste from the Dawn look alike back in the Diamond and Pearl series, the one that Give Dawn her Togekiss after winning a contest.
I really want to like Chloe. Her situation of not knowing what to do for a living is VERY relatable, but the writers give her so little to do that by the time her arc concludes, it didn’t feel like she did anything to become a researcher, y’know, the thing she absolutely didn’t want to do. She was super fragmented from the rest of the series even though they plant her and Goh having a past at the very start, which really hurt her in the long run
Chloe didn’t developt her character so much, sure she decided to be a Pokémon researcher just like her dad at the last episode but that dosen’t work at all.

I do find it cool for Chloe to have an Eevee, but the way she had it so easily, not evolving it, AND have no character development really screwed her up.
Chloe's dislike was more like May and Serena, not Lillie's phobia. Chloe, May, and Serena were more uninterested in pokemon, not truly afraid. She's as much a pokegirl as Delia, Caroline, Johanna, Meyer, Grace, etc. Yeah, the parents. Eevee arc- even learning that it could gigantamax would have been a good ending, too, imo. Studying more examples of each eeveelution would have been interesting, too.
I wouldn't really say that Serena was uninterested about pokemon, I'd say she just preferred performing rather than battles and the gym challenge and such. She didn't really dislike battles either.
@@vixntrickzz At first, she wasn't even interested in that. She didn't really seem to be into anything at first. She was just a girl at home with no goals in life. Then she saw an old friend from summer camp (who didn't recognize her at first), and decided to see him again, and the only way to get out of town was to become a trainer. Shauna introduced her to performing. If she had been more interested in pokemon, she would have been training before Ash returned to her life. Mallow wasn't really into battling, but she had the goal of making her family's restaurant the best it can be. Sophocles isn't as interested in being the top trainer, either, imo, but he has his scientific research and goal of being an astronaut. Serena wasn't even trying to become a top baker, even though she's good at it.
@@jenniferdaniels701 well not really. I think she didn't take the first step before, because her mother wanted her to be a rhyhorn racer. Just seeing ash save the garchomp in lumiose (I think that's when she saw him?) gave her a bit of confidence to be like "I'm setting off!". She was very unhappy about her mom wanting her to be a rhyhorn racer, so even without ash she might've set off anyways. Besides it's not like she disliked battles. She just didn't know what to do after getting Fennekin, and it just so happened, that when she realized, she just wanted to be a performer. Personally, while I really like Serena as a character and I like her contest arc (minus the crush on ash b plot, it's uhh...) I think she should have been a battle focused trainer as well, cause at the time she was the 3rd pokegal doing contests. As for the argument later - just because she likes baking, it doesn't mean she has to become a top baker or something. It's just a little side hobby she likes, just like clemont preparing food for everyone. (Yet he doesn't want to be a chef, of course. Because his main thing is inventing and being the lumiose gym leader.)
@@vixntrickzz Grace pushed her into ryhorn racing because Serena needed to do something, not just sit around. The goal didn't have to be pokemon related, just a goal she's working toward. Baking, designing clothes like Valerie outside the gym, business, science, contests, training, I don't care. I just don't see Serena as having any kind of goal until Shauna tells her about performing and shows her what it's like.
I like the idea that she’s trying different things because she wants to find her way and how in theory the eevee arch ties into that. It feels like wasted potential for Pokémon to introduce a new eeveelution, or have eevee evolve into a sylveon that’s a regional variant.
The sad part about Chloe is that I actually found her story to be more interesting than Goh. Because of how much pressure she faced about her peers thinking that she'll be a Pokemon professor like her dad, she becomes repellent of Pokemon and people who are crazy about Pokemon like Goh and especially Ash. Like during their first meeting after Yamper shocked him, she doesn't even bother checking to see if he's ok, just ignores him and moves on. While I'm glad she's become less repellent about Ash and Pokemon and even managed to get her own pokemon, but as time went on and they fail to give her more pokemon and she only is motivated to find more eeveelutions, she feels less like a character and more of a plot device to show off all the eevee evolutions. And even her own focused episodes it feels like the side characters get more focus than her, especially during her climax with her own dad. And the worst part, at the end of it she becomes the new research fellow after Goh and Ash leaves and tries to follow her dad's footsteps. THE VERY THING SHE DIDN'T WANT TO DO!
I like Chloe but her getting Eevee was boring, I liked her story of not liking Pokémon and then starting to like them, Her not wanting to be labeled as a trainer/professor just cause her dad is was an interesting idea but as SOON as she got Eevee it was instantly boring, The whole seeing other eevelution trainers got boring and they just recycled other character ideas, RIP Yamper, as soon as Chloe caught Eevee and forgot Yamper it was over
In fact, in the episode before the Master 8 finale there is a recap of her storyline and she said she wants to be a professor like her a father, at least that's what I heard in reviews.
thank you for making this video, you've probably seen my comments before and that I think she's an amazing character just written and handled poorly. She had so much potential for being a great character and they decided to not work with her unless they needed to to basically get a filler episode in. I wish they would have done more with her but I can only wish. At least I can read stories/fanfics of her actually getting good character development. Great video can't wait to see the next, also I love your art of all the characters on your thumbnails, the Chloe one is so cute
Ok 0:20 no your lying. Dawn and May weren't bossy girls like misty. Dawn legitimately had her own development and was more like female ash that got better overtime. If you really wanna be that guy serena's whole arc started fifty episodes into the series
Yes, they were? They're are entire 10 minute compilations of sassy dawn and may if you want to see for yourself. Even in the beginning of advanced, that was may's nature 😭
I hate this character so much because she wastes so much of Journeys that already had too much filler. She’s so boring too, constantly getting outshined by guest characters in her solo episodes, and her basic “journey” is so bare bones and takes too long. You can tell they gave her an Eevee cause they needed to do SOMETHING exciting with her.
To be honest the reason why I don't like her that much Is not because of these things, it's because she always downplays, or how she reacted everything Ash and Goh did. It was annoying for me to see her in an episode.
2:31 Yeah, honestly, I would've just bitten the bullet and let her join. Would've helped to get rid of a LOT of unneeded filler. To give an example on how it could've been avoided: I've made small progress on a document of a Pokemon Journeys rewrite, might take some points from your video to help with that so thanks in advance. In it, Chloe ends up joining Ash around the time Ash battles with Korrina in Journeys. She doesn't even need to be around all the time, just slightly often! I also took the liberty in it so far, to put the episode where Chloe catches Eevee, before Ash even catches Dragonite (altering things drastically to fit the story). It her mostly has her join early on to give her more flexibility with screen time, and avoid unnecessary filler, and also change some things to make her unique, like maybe a mental disability!
@danielawytte3228 Yeah but since Chloe is an introvert and barely ever traveled with Ash and Goh, I mean I'm not sure how they are supposed to be friends
Honestly. Journeys is basically the BWBA of Pokémon. Both Big World Big Adventures and Journeys tried to have the main character (Thomas the Tank Engine for BWBA, and Ash and Goh for Journeys) traveling the world. And both are underwhelming and pretty bad. Journeys did nothing with the new content and basically clung onto nostalgia, Kanto and Filler for most of its run. BWBA did the opposite, ditching the roots of the show (Edward and Henry being kicked from the main cast, Realism being a mess.) in favor of newer flashier things. Thing is I actually can tolerate BWBA. Journeys on the other hand frustrates me with how it’s the GEN 8 ANIME AND IT DID BASICALLY NOTHING WITH GEN 8. We got the bare minimum for Gen 8 in the Gen 8 anime, with an arc for Sword and Shield, a special for BDSP, and a special for Legends Arceus, as well as the Galar Starters. But most of the Galar stuff was ignored, heck we don’t even have the Galar Starters together at the same time outside of “the world of Pokémon” Segments, something that has never happened before or since in the anime. Journeys just makes me angry.
I know and then all these new episodes try and give Nia and Rebecca as much screentime as possible while Edward and Henry just fade away in the background! It's very clear some of the episode plots feel very rushed since season 21 only had 18 episodes instead of the usual 26. It's obvious they wanted to get season 21 out of the way so they could roll BWBA into the market!
The thing that frustrates me is that Chloe could’ve been soooo good. If she was a more frequent companion to Ash and Goh and more clearly shown to have a fear of change, it could’ve made her story with Eevee not evolving an interesting allegory for not wanting to grow up and being unsure or afraid to commit to a certain path in life. Maybe she’s even hesitant to catch Eevee because she’s so used to being around Yamper. She could’ve paralleled Goh and his drive to go into the world and achieve impossible goals with her almost pessimistic realism, and act as a “straight man” comedically to Ash’s brighter side and Goh’s shenanigans. And that’s not even mentioning how they could’ve rewritten Goh and her dynamic, or given a deeper dynamic to her and Ash, since they barely interact. If it weren’t for her being in the Journeys intro, you’d think she was a side character as important as the rest of her family, not a secondary protagonist! GOH IS MORE OF A POKEGIRL THAN HER (which that’s getting into an opposite problem), and HE’S NOT A GIRL (and also very bland). Cut her out and you don’t miss much in the current iteration of Journeys; but develop her, and she arguably could’ve been one of the best.
Like you said I find it really odd that she just met random people’s eeveelutions because all you have to do is just be like “oh btw this water type specialist ash battled and became friends with in the past has a vaporeon.” Like I swear when ash met Wallace in that episode where Chloe had a contest and met Serena she could’ve also chatted to Wallace about Vaporeon
Chloe could've had so much more positives than just her design which is the only thing that i really like about her and i feel like it was a missed oppurtunity on pokemons end that they didnt give her more character development, also not evolving her eevee was a bad desision i feel like they could have done so much more with it like they could've introduced a new eeveelution since its been a while since we've had a good eeveelution
I was hoping her Eevee would have evolved into a new type as it could have parallel her not knowing what to do in her life. The answers aren't always discovered.
Journeys could have introduced Virgil from Unova fans would have got a battle with Ash and also Chloe could have got character development also Journeys should have shown Chloe with GMax Evee as a proper conclusion
Her character would have been a great way to bring back old characters: Literally could have just brought back Virgil for every eeveelution at once Or Anabel - Espeon Gladion - Umbreon Serena - Sylveon Zoey - Leafeon I would say May for Glaceon, but her voice actor couldn't return, so I respect the decision to just give her a cameo. If the original trio maybe the Eevee brothers? Volkner - Jolteon Flint - Flareon (he has one in the games, and it would've been cool since he is an elite four) Alima could have showcased the eevee z move. I personally think Chloes eevee should have gotten to Gigantimax. That would've made it special. So many missed opportunities
Not my favorite, but I really love the glow up that she has in Journey. Reason I don’t like her was that she’s irritating in most small moments. But that toned down a lot
the thing with Chloe's eevee is they were trying to promote Let'sGo Eevee with it which is why they had her go meet all of the eeveelutions and have hers not evolve.
Honestly, I would play into the fact that it can't evolve and let it be a representative of the Let's Go Eevee. She could be mentored by an Eevee specialist to use the special moves from those games like Glitzy Glow and Bouncy Bubble. Also, I'd have Chloe find her place in Max Raids, not as an offensive specialist, but support, focusing on helping others calm the Dynamaxed pokemon down. It's weird how this show did Galar's storyline, but I don't remember them doing Max Raids.
Chloes my least favorite pokegirl too. I gave her time when jn came around but i wasnt interested in her. And even i think having that episode during the masters 8 was not a good idea. I love her friendship with dawn and serena but chloe was treated poorly
Ironically I love Chloe as a character because was absolutely the most relatable to me and her being just an ordinary girl with no interest in Pokémon because it was so normal to have them around felt like something that the anime didn't really have a true character for. It just sucks, I haven't finished journeys but now I know that her story doesn't really go anywhere seeing as even her performance arc doesn't go anywhere and we just regress and go against the whole point of her arc to not follow her father's footsteps. I always thought her eevee couldn't evolve because it was suppose to gigantamax at some point but apparently that didn't happen either which is really disappointing, honestly I love her journey of trying to find your path as a concept and eevee not evolving felt unique to me because they're going through the journey together of not knowing what they wanna do and be. We'll I'll still finish journeys, but really disappointed to hear she was wasted potential I enjoyed her focus episodes, at least I know Serena makes a comeback she's my favorite pokegirl
I wouldn't say she's the worst pokegirl in Pokemon history. It's not her fault that her potential was screwed around by the decisions of the writers. Just a very bad missed opportunity.

I think a problem with choosing Espeon is if the only reason why you can feel relaxed about not knowing what your future holds is due to your Pokemon being able to know it for you, ultimately that's knowing what your future holds in a sense. You can take comfort in that your future is known to someone or something. That kind of comfort needs to come without having a clear sign that you can know the future or you will always be dependent on that clear sign, it'll be a crutch.

I would given Ash an Eevee who would look up to Pikachu and then evolve into Jolteon, finally giving Ash his 2nd electric type Pokémon after 26 years.
I relate to this so much
Eevee is supposed to be for both genders but they marketed towards girls, and for that stupid reason they genderlocked Eevee in PMD eos
Espeon or Leafeon are the best candidates for Ash imo, they had almost zero screen time in the anime and only some cameos
I actually didn't mind that, the problem became more it didn't evolve into a new Eevelution!!! 👿👿👿👿
Or give Brock and Eevee and somehow it accidently evolves into a leafeon, that way he has a pokemon to fight against water types and nobody would expect a rock type gymleader to send-out a grass type pokemon

She needed more love from the anime writers...
@@lohigrov I agree because the writers really gave up on Chloe
We honestly only needed Ash as an mc. Having 3 characters in the spotlight really ruined Ash’s final series.
@@Grim0XVr That's so true
She didn't. She needed more intelligence from the fandom

Chloe had potential close to Dawn and May. Ended up down the drain in last place next to Iris as Pokegirl in the series.
Iris is Unova Champion in Chloe's series. Your words are invalid.
Embarassed yourself twice over
Did anyone else think they intended for her Eevee to evolve into Leafeon? Like, think with me. Only time in the series that she took interest in doing something for herself (that wasnt something copied from a past pokegirl 😶) was an episode about looking after the gardens at her school.
Also, when you look at the girl she met who looked just like her but with umbreon and espeon, that girl’s hair in the highlight had like the symbol from umbreon’s head. Chloe has a flower. Thats giving plants to me, so a grass type leafeon to help her out looking after the plants at school, and to parallel that girl in her class with the glaceon, it fits well
I can defend Goh all day but Chloe is just inexcusable
LOL TRUE!
Meh, I think Chloe is actually an interesting character, but the writers just didn't seem to want to include her. Goh just doesn't work for what Journeys was doing with the duo protag thing imo.

Objectively wrong, typical
They did the whole eevee doesn't know what it wants ark better in the first season of Kanto in ONE episode.

^ when I say we don’t have the Galar Starters together at the same time, I mean in base form

@@PirateKingJ To be honest, I kinda like Chloe, it's just that she's so boring and not interesting at all
@@Kings0424 actually tho like she’s nice but that’s it she just feels plain as a character
@@PirateKingJ I agree
Serena is the best pokegirl
She is perfect for Ash
@@zannatbegum7020 yeh my bad lemme fix that
If the developers actually created her good development without putting Goh a lot,she would have been a good character for the pokemon series
there's no such thing as a worst pokegirl
Alternative title: the worst werpet in Pokemon history
MY EeVeE Is ThE SpeCiAl OnE It Can CopY MoVeS it’s so annoying 😭😭😭😭
Bro, it's incredibly cliche 😭
I think a problem with choosing Espeon is if the only reason why you can feel relaxed about not knowing what your future holds is due to your Pokemon being able to know it for you, ultimately that's knowing what your future holds in a sense. You can take comfort in that your future is known to someone or something. That kind of comfort needs to come without having a clear sign that you can know the future or you will always be dependent on that clear sign, it'll be a crutch.
That's so baffling Undertale music is still used
Her ponytail looks like a scorpion tail.
That's mostly all I thought.
Y'know what would've been cool? If we had her Alternative universe version of her instead.
I personally wished Chloe was Ash's partner for the final seasons,I didn't like it care for Gohan at all. He was so boring and annoying. Chasing an unachievable goal and just catching and catching Pokemon left and right. Some thing Ash should have been doing from the beginning. Chloe isn't a bad character it's the writers fault for focusing on Goh too much.
Gohan? From dragon ball 🤣🤣
how is his goal unachievable ? It's like the exact same from a character in pokespe (crystal) ,, and crystal caught a LOT more pokemon
Someone on Twitter compared JN to Paper Mario Sticker Star. Never has there been such an apt comparison.
