- I decided to try an electric pencil sharpener-can you believe it?! I love a good handheld sharpener, but thought it was about time to try an electric to see what all the fuss is about. I had also recently purchased the Van Gogh inspired colored pencil set from Castle Arts, so I thought…why not try out the new sharpener on these new colored pencils on a new Christmas coloring page!

I love how Steve's opinion is so important to you. I have the same with my husband, I show him everything 😄 Your white outlining looks really good, it makes it very Christmassy.
I have my great-grandmother's pencil sharpener from when she was a teacher. It's a Dahle no. 22 from the 1950's and works like a charm. Not sure I'd ever go electric, the sound of the Dahle is so nice!

That's so cool that you did the night sky in a Van Gogh inspired sky! I can definitely tell that's what you were going for. I think I'm in love with that pencil sharpener! I can't get a nice point like that manually.

I like the after the white.
I had some problems with the cores that where off centered and contacted castle art. They have an amazing custom service. Love there pencils. I have the 120, 120 Gold and the 48 Metallic pencils. Only the pastels and watercolor pencils are missing and will follow with the next sale🥰.... I'm not sponsored as well (but i wishes they would😅) but either way, I'd buy there pencils and love them the same
Some rechargeable devices, at least that I've found, can take hours to charge. This is usually a good sign; meaning that it has a 'large' charge...but also that it may be using a "slow trickle-charge" type of thing. I *think* this is to make the battery last longer.

I have two electric sharpeners. One is a semi-expensive X-Acto one, but it only handles 'regular size' pencils (not 'big barrel' ones). It's NOT rechargable...just takes 4 AA's, but I have it using rechargable's anyway that I just replaced with fully charged when needed.

My "expensive" one is corded only. It's another X-Acto (the "ProX"). Cost me a bit (cost me $80 Canadian! O_O ). But it's REALLY good and also handles 6 different pencil barrel sizes....and has a rather huge 'shavings bin'. It's big and heavy...but man o' man does it handle anything I throw at it! :) Totally no regrets for either sharpener.

(NOTE: I did use a variety of hand-sharpeners...from cheap-o free ones to 'expensive', a few bucks, Faber-Castel or other brand name ones; they work fine, but with my rather bad Fibromyalgia, I already have limited time to colour...hand/finger pain kicks in after a little while..., adding to the pain of hand-turning was just NOT in the cards...so... electric I went! ).

I had a little trouble with new gold set leads kept breaking set me a whole new set and let me keep the original ones so happy a really good company

I purchased the 120 Castle Art pencil crayons a few months back based on reviews and how nice they were on my pocket book and love them except for the labeling you pointed out which some pencils you can't read anymore as I've rubbed the name right off lol. It be nice if it was imprinted into the wood but heck if your looking for a nice selection of colors that don't break on you every time you sharpen them like prisms then you can't go wrong with CA pencils also another nice brand I found are called Black Widows.

I like both before and after the white outline, I think they are both great. I love Van Gogh too. Wheat Field Under Thunder Clouds is one of my favourites. Thanks for the video, very inspirational.

I have the Office sharpener and I'm happy with it. The only down side, it's not accepting larger pencils like Faber-Castell, Derwent or Carand'Ache. So I bought an Afmat electric sharpener for those. I kept my Office one for my more budget sets and use the Afmat for the rest.
Beautiful picture I'm thinking of getting an electric pencil sharpener this one looks nice tyfs.
I ha e the 120 set and several of the smaller sets like the Van Gough. I really enjoy the curated sets and I find it's fun to choose one for a page. It sure cuts down on decision making time! And as a beginner in coloring it is really nice to have a limited yet curated palette to choose from.

I like the white outline! I thought the deer and gnome were kind of lost until you did the white outline. It made them pop out. I have the castle art gold pencils. I’m anxious for your thoughts. Will you swatch them? I would love to see your swatch order for them.

I get the same with the Amazon basics too. Switch to smaller cone, no change. I don’t mind though. It was only about 15$ so not sweating it.
I've had an office works electric sharpener for a few years now. It's not as fancy to pull the pencil in and spit it back out but it's running strong and the power lasts for a very long time. When it runs down, I plug it in overnight and I'm good for another few weeks or more.
I liked the picture with the black outline slightly better, but I loved it with the white snow splatter. I would be very interested in a sharpener update in a few months. I like this one’s looks and action-very curious to see how it holds up! I just got the Castle Arts Pasteltints 48 set and am enjoying them with my Polychromos pencils. They fill in some of the gaps I felt were in the Polychromos range quite nicely. I’m curious to try some of Castle Arts other pencil ranges now!

Castle Arts is having a really good sale going on for a few days. I actually bought the 120 Gold set before I saw any reviews because the price was $ 30 less than they were.
I have been trying to get that Van Gogh set forever and it was always out of stock when it was on sale on Amazon. Then when it was restocked it went fast at full price. Hopefully I can get it after Christmas. Hoping it goes back on sale.

Re white outline or not, it's a tough choice. It does make it stand out more, but without it, it's cleaner.

The screen printing on the tin is much more purple than Van goths actual palette colors, just from my monitor view.
I think that the white outline'd version is better
if you can, could you test the other Van Gogh set I believe its from Japan

The Amazon basics sharpener takes batteries as well as a usb cable.

I believe that I have the same sharpener, it was recommended by Lindsay The Frugal Crafter and it works plugged in or charged! I did not see a great difference in the points of the blunt or sharper points. I did see another sharpener it looks the same but it will accept larger pencils but I have a manual sharpener for those. I don’t think the white outlining ruined your picture it just changed it made it look different, and different it’s not bad, but I do prefer the first one before you added the white.

I prefer the “before” version without the white outlines.
The one thing I've noticed is that with those themed sets I think there's like 11 different sets and each one has 24 pencils in it so that's over 200 pencils whereas the full set of the soft core only have 120 so I'm wondering are they repeating the same colors in multiple sets for the themed sets and that's why there's the overlap of the amount.
What model number is the replacement blade? It doesn't state anything in the instructions booklet?

I thought the sharpener was neat but in canada $61.00 is not so neat. I'll stick to my hand crank one lol.
