Ryan Field didn’t have permanent lighting (the only fbs stadium without lighting)…for night games they had lights brought in. Also, the new stadium is only going to seat 35,000
@ I went to one game there in the mid 2000s when they played NIU (I’m a Huskies fan). Was a fun game even tho NIU lost by 1…they went for a 2 point conversion at the end of the game and didn’t get it. Hopefully with the new stadium they draw larger crowds, in 2023 they averaged only 20,800
For Kansas football stadium, the first phase is about 350-400m, the second phase may not be completed until 2027 or 2028 season because it will be another 200 or so million.
I know UNC Charlotte is slowly building theirs over time. Started at 15K, but they are breaking ground this year on the new press tower and will expand to over 18K. The next part of this phase is to expand to 21K. The current plans have them expanding to 30K but they have options to expand to 46K.
Penn St guy here. The Beaver Stadium renovation is definitely needed. The Jordan Center for basketball is another that needs a renovation as does the McCoy Pool. I just don’t know if Penn St has enough $ for them.
Orlando Stadium…..$400M to $1B renovation…..in this economy where people can barely afford groceries due to incredible inflation, these are staggering amounts of money
Getting the Jags for a season is Camping World’s only hope. Besides that, it’s just a concert and MonsterJam venue that happens to host a bowl game. No one wants to play there.
Something I've wondered for a while. I think it's asinine that college "students" who are clearly there for football have to take classes at all. Just drop the pretenses and let them be there for sports.
West Point tore east stands built in 1960s not part of original 100 year old Michie Stadium that in and is in two year project to build a $170 million new multi tier grandstand with boxes and banquet facility. Will be ready in 2026. We have seen pictures of Michie when it could accommodate baseball games.
Absolutely horrible job out of you not mentioning USF's on campus brand new stadium that has already broken ground. Maybe do some research before you make a video in the future.
The USF Stadium will open in 2027 and seat 35,000. It costs only $340m ( much cheaper then Northwestern). The Bulls are an obvious future ACC replacement for Florida St when they leave for the SEC ( or more likely) Big 10.
@@parkerstraw5298 you mean the high school that has almost 50,000 students? The high school that has beaten teams like Florida State, Auburn, University of Miami and Notre Dame to name a few? The high school that made it to an FBS D1 faster than any other college had ever once starting their program? You mean the High School that has been ranked as high as number 2 in the nation before? Ok, I think I'm done making you look like a fool.
What is the Price Tag on Ryan Field at Northwestern??? How are such colleges affording these mega stadiums? More tuition scams to have such “disposable” funds to pay for such major construction projects
Northwesters stadium shouldnt be that big they dont have enough fans to fill that stadium itll probably always be filled with the opposing teams fans just like vanderbilt
I live in Big Ten country, Go Buckeyes. I've known people that have been to Ryan field and they've said it's pretty much been a dump for a while. it's had crumbling concrete form the stands, where the areas under even when they were inaccessible were roped off. There were leaking pipes, very inadequate and outdated bathrooms. The concession facilities were not only lacking, but those that they had were in bad shape. The exits and entrances were basically cattle herding to seats due to narrow aisles, and damaged isles. This has been needed for decades and they finally are getting to it. Some of the seats look away from the field so you needed to turn your neck. Many seats had terrible sight lines. All in all one of the worst stadiums in college football, and for that to be in the BIG ten as just wrong. The campus is right in the middle of a very historic neighborhood so it took a while to work out the issues with the community. Northwestern has never been a huge athletics school, it's far more into academia so funding was always an an issue as was where to put it and if they replaced it they needed a place to play for a couple seasons. It's just one big cluster mess that had lots of complicated politics. These politics go back decades. My mother's family is from nearby Wilmette and I've heard lots of issues from her family about the way that the city of Evanston being very recalcitrant towards a big shiny stadium with modern bright lights, and the neighborhood has never been very keen on night games, so it never had lights. This is likely due to the bowl nature of the stadium so light towers would brighten blocks around late into Saturday nights. I live in a small Michigan town and the football field used to be behind my house. I could easily see the back yard with the lights. People complained for decades about the light since people further down the street would have the light shining into their windows at night, and there's only 1200 people here so it's a small field. imagine a 40K seat stadium with lights dozens of feet above the top of the stadium, so they would've been 80 feet and more above the stadium. They finally secured funding to put up a new larger modern facility(modern for small town Michigan High School.) The new Ryan field will have a canopy over the fans so they'll be able to have lights without bothering the neighborhoods around it. It'll seat 35k, northwestern is a very small school(relative to OSU, PSU, U of M, and others) and has the lowest student body. it also will have then lowest capacity at 35K. When you consider that The Shoe, Beaver and Michigan Stadium are over 100,000, you can see how it took so long to replace Ryan Field. Getting funding was an issue as well since the football team didn't have very many famous NFL players, and a good share of the famous alumnus could give two craps about sports.. They finally got the financing and it's being done.
Disgusting how college football has become big business like this. You're supposed to college to get an education and play sports because you love the game. It's just turned into an unofficial minor league football league at this point. Sad.
. It is simply a question of survival. Northwestern will never be on the same economic footing as Penn St, Ohio St or Michigan ( 35k seating capacity compared to 100k). But by spending the $800m, they are safe from being relegated to a lower conference.
@@davidbrown386 but on some level, who cares? It seems like education should be more important college sports. What conference a college's teams belong seems to be pretty darn irrelevant in the grand scheme of education. $800m would cover a lot of kids' tuitions or pay for research facilities that do some good to society
What Conference you are in matters. Stanford and Cal wanted the Big 10 but were rejected. However they did not want to be in the Big XII ( due to Academic standards). So they chose the ACC ( despite the travel).
well considering we are not building everything brand new and using already built facilities it’s manageable, why would they use student funds for the rose bowl ucla doesn’t own it, only lease it for 6 games a year.
The Big House of Michigan the gold standard for college football stadiums, with a capacity over 110,000 and sold out every Saturday. It's partially sunken into the earth so its stature is not overpowering on the landscape.
The Rams’ Stadium is not all that. Acoustics are horrid. Difficult to traverse the stadium because of all of the premium seating areas. Seats are too high from the field if you’re not in the lowest bowl. The dome is ridiculous for its location. The scoreboard is distracting because of the immense size. Playing on carpet in Southern California? Embarrassing. The football stadiums in AZ and Las Vegas are vastly superior than this one.

That is true especially if we are talking Stanford and other elite academics institutions.
