Not only is Ron extremely knowledgable about Grant Tanks, we viewers are also fortunate that he's equally as good at sharing that knowledge with us. Hats off to the everyone in the Aus Armour Family!
Between australian armoured channel and here in the uk the Mr. Hewes tank restoration channel, its the 2 best ways of true armoured entertainment ❤
Check out Lottie the Tank Whisperer, she's a hoot.
I watch & enjoy both shows.
@masaharumorimoto4761 yes she is including her hate for brit armoured wiring 😄
Damn...we should have just set up a camera in our old motorpool in the 80s. We could have made a ton of money with that footage.
Yes always days where they both upload when one dosent
I have known Ron for many years and he still works like greased lightning. He has always got things done while most are still thinking where to start.
Ron is the GOAT on grant tanks. The amount of knowledge is very impressive.
The speed sorting out the treasures from the junk was some thing to see.
@@peppermill7163 was very impressive.
If the man ever dies reckon he'll come back as a ghost to keep maintaining Grant tanks😁
This channel just keeps on pumping out the best armoured content on youtube.
"Wonder whats livin in there?"😆 - Pretty serious question in Oz I guess....
I think that Ron Fry is another good barn find, dead set genius.
Surprised you flipped over onto the open side door 😳 Flipping it over certainly shook up the dirt & crap inside 👍
In case anyone wondered why Ron's worth of knowledge is worth his weight in gold. Nay, scratch that, the tank's worth. He knows it all by heart.
When a bloke like that shows up, you know things are on the right path.
edit: finally, a properly oriented Australian tank!
I love this channel !!! The only problem is,it is over too fast…… I can’t wait until next week. See you then😊
I’ve now realise that the music is a problem. It means this week’s episode is about to finish. Don’t want each episode to end!! I do not look forward to the music!! 😮😢😅😊
Change the playback speed to 0.5 x
@@Rusty_Gold85 great idea!!!
If only Mastermind was still on TV....his chosen area of specialty would have him a definite winner!
Only problem is that Ron would have to write the odd and obscure questions too.
Win win for Ron!
@@johnnewman366 haha, indeed
guy is a living "Haynes Manual" !! awesome, some people are just golden ... much respect
Ron @ 2"50 ..."This is a piece of junk...." Ha! Love this guy!
One thing I love on these videos is the cool Aussie Accent. My Dad served in the army air corps in WW -2 landing in Brisbane (in late 1943?).
He would bring out his version of the "Aussie accent" at times for fun. I miss him and these guys always remind me of him.
Absolutely in awe of Ron’s knowledge… of the Grant, Australian armour, and tank flipping! Mind you, the fact those wheels still turned after nearly 80 years is also amazing! Looking forward to more!
Another fantastic workshop Wednesday
I can listen to Ron talking about random grant parts for hours. The amount of knowledge he possesses is insane!
Favourite day of the week, Workshop Wednesday...
And CEE for Fridays
If it wasn't for Workshop Wednesday, I'd never put my bins out.
@@knstndnlv The occasional Marty T video.
I see workshop Wednesday, I watch
Nice to see a reccy mech back at it in an ARV(M). Made for each other!
Living on the Mid North Coast of NSW, 1 day I was headed into Kempsey from home, and I saw one of the semi's on the Hwy heading North.
We were at the Tank Museum about 9 weeks ago and I chatted to Jason about it. He is a top guy.
The staff do an amazing job, we will be back.
Its amazing when you can see this stuff in person.... I passed a Chevy pickup truck ( around 2003) coming from lake Tahoe on my way to Reno... I saw the old black and yellow license plates that read BELLX1 on it but seeing Chuck Yeager driving it was a shock.....
AS a former Marine Corps Tanker I found this video to be very informative and entertaining Ron knows his stuff and the ways and means of doing things.
It’s great to see that there are still guys like Ron who are experts with enthusiasm for historical pieces like the Grant.
Ya have to love it when a pro picks up a rusted chunk of something and tells you where it goes and what it's for.
The ONLY chanel i wait for every week
Weekly perfume?!
@@demonicsquid7217 I'm not gonna get cut up about my spelling mistak cos I'm an easy going chap. BUT maybe if I had learning difficulties or was dyslexic I could be embarrassed or upset. Was your comment really necessary?
Two minutes in and I am in awe of Ron’s knowledge. Congratulations on another great Workshop Wednesday
Incredible how Ron just picks up a rustified, crappy & dirty bit of bent or busted tank, & knows just what it is!
13 Grant tank builds? This guy is probly the most experienced Grant builder in the world! - Well, in Straya anyway! I'll grant him that! Hehehe!
Made short work of cuttin off the Aussie mods! That front bit of additional armour between the 2 final drives looks like a nifty & useful mod! - Better not throw THAT away huh?
Hey Ron! - Or to anyone else that may know - That anti-grenade mesh - did they put that on only in the field, & only on Grants? It looks like such a cool mod I'd like to scratchbuild that same mesh onto my M3. I'm building an Aussie Lee tank - "Bushape".
"Shut that bloody side entry door! Shut the dang door!" I yelled at the screen as the tank got flipped! Geez! I hope that door didn't get damaged!
Great video!
I love watching people excelling at very niche knowledge or rare skills
Great episode. Only wished you closed the hatch before rolling it onto that side :(
Ron is a national treasure.
Well that’s not something I get to see Every Day. Awesome!
Ron is the real McCoy ! Knows his stuff ! Good job, looking forward to this series
Absolute legend, he's likely forgotten more than I know about tanks.
Steve and Ron - two great finds! Knowledge and experience, worth their weight in gold!
I really started watching this channel because of this series of videos on the Barn Find. One time the TH-cam algorithm did good.
Hey from California, I always look forward to Workshop Wednesday. I amazed the quality of work being done and the quality of the video productions!
Big boy's toys Aussie style! I'm a Brit. watching your amazing weekly fix of Heavy Metal engineering from South America. I thought that I'd seen most things on your excellent channel but this (Grant) Tank FLIPPING really does take the biscuit for me. Please keep posting these awesome videos of blokes having fun, being passionate about history and keeping flags flying, and antique Armor running . Good on you guys! A big thumbs up from Rio, Brazil.
Geez, he knows his Grant tanks, another interesting video 👍
Ron...love that guy. I'd enjoy watching all these old guys sit around drinking beers and telling sea stories. Thanks Ron for your hard work.
I believe Ron was in the army. Stories about the sea would be few. I cannot speak for the other gentlemen.
@@bebo4807 Yes. "Sea Stories" was meant as generic thing. I should have said "war stories" or "swap lies" lol
What a huge bank of knowledge Ron has , being able to recognise a small , twisted, rusted part that belongs to the tank. Impressive. Great idea to have one original model.
Ron is a grant tank living legend 👍👍
Saw on a local Facebook page this week that there’s a Grant tank in Warragamba Dam and it becomes visible when dam levels are low
Apparently a left over from farms that were submerged
so we do have our version of O Panzer what is your wisdom in the lake
Someone should recover it for the museum. Good lawn art at the very least.
@@aserta yeah
Only problem is that the dam is water supply for Sydney. You’d never get the approvals to even go near it
Ron's Grant knowledge is simply jaw dropping...
What an amazing way to clean the tank !. Ron's knowledge of Grant tank is also amazing. He must knows every detail of the Grant tank.
To catch him and record that session will be a treasure for all future generations.
Yes, knowledge like his should be preserved.
Rons knowledge of the Grant tanks is extraordinary. Enjoyed watching masters at work. Ty for sharing
Ron certainly doesn't mess around! This is going to be an exciting restoration series.
Be still my beating heart. Another Grant restoration & what a way to start. Thanks again for a brilliant episode, looking forward to next week. Cheers
Right man, right tools ...
I initially thought....why not have Ron on every dang episode? Then....as a yank....I remembered how big Australia really is. Beautiful work gents, as always.
It's an absolute joy to watch Ron working .
That’s actually kind of gay…
Ron is a gem. You don't find to many that geek off to the point you can see he has. That guy goes to sleep thinking Grants. 😎🤙🌺
BEST SHOW ANYWHERE! Thanks. 🎉
Great idea to put a Grant back to factory spec.
Ron is a Grant guru brilliant episode
Oh come on you have to make a T Shirt out of that! good stuff chaps
Ron is a "Gem'" such a wealth of knowledge.
A fantastic episode! Show Ron a pile of rusty metal and he finds a tank inside! He has also introduced us to a new sport! Tank tipping! That did loosen up a lot of dirt and debris!
I never thought I'd see that!
I love how Ron goes through the pile of what looks like scrap and identifies the various pieces. I find it amazing that it was not all rusted through. It must have been pretty dry where those tanks were left?
Wow, a Wild Workshop Wednesday. Keep them coming 😃
Can also tell Ron visited when it was slighly cooler in Cairns haha
That recovery vehicle sounds awesome. Nice job.
As a UK watcher it's now the right way up!
Terrific. I am lucky enough to have visited Ron and been for a ride in a couple of his Stuarts. 👍
I hope to god someone is writing all this down because this knowledge is priceless!
Deutsche Panzer in Australien. Wer hätte das gedacht
genau
@@jamesreardon8585 What? That is recovery Leopard. What winners? What spoils?
The Australian Army used the German Leopard tank for 30 years before obtaining the American Abrams.
It's all about appreciating good engineering, admiring great designs, keeping great conceptions alive. In short Celebrating human inventiveness!
Great video! I can see that Ron really know what he is doing and gets on with it quickly/ Great to see him work on this Grant - it needs quite a bit of help!! See you next week!! 😀
You guys rock! I deeply enjoyed this episode!
Flip it ! Yeah sure no problem !!! Love it !
Oh! I needed to see the firehose cleaning! Very cool stuff!👍
Amazing he can name each of the parts and where they go. I'd be drawing a blank. The perfect man for the job.
Oh no, you scuffed the top of the tank. Great job, looks like Ron surely knows his business. His description of the tank parts was very interesting. Love Workshop Wednesday.
Buy Ron as many beers as he wants when he works like this... another great video!
I'm in the wrong career path, this stuff is so dang fascinating. Well done, Ron and team!
Omg! Ron is AMAZING! Another great talent find by AusArmour!!!
huh. did not think to see a tank flip on todays episode... nice. keep them coming! :)
@ 4:09 Ron says "Aluminium" Love that!
Like always, there is something going on at AusArmour that is out of the usual. This time, it's stripping back all upgrades to rebuild to original standard. Then comes the unusual, flipping over the shell, to clean out and inspect underneath for damage and rot. So much went on during this episode, that I had to re run it to see everything. Brilliant, Thanks from the Home Country.
Whose home country? Not ours! We're AUSTRALIAN! This is and always was our home. We are nothing like England. Geez, i really dislike poms that believe Oz is some kind of annex or extension of Britain.
Ron is a national treasure
I'd love to see one programme on the 'storage' area... so many future projects hidden away!
Nice one Kurt - now we have 'Action Cam' :)
Well thats one way to turn a tank over. Great video guys thankyou. Best wishes from the UK.
Damn!!! Can't it be next week!!!
Great job guys!!
Love the contrast between the full on restoration and the patina restoration.
Awesome stuff, can’t wait to see each episode
Great episode gents. Really made me smile to see the passion that Ron has for the Grant. His knowledge needs to be “bottled” so others can learn from the Master. Looking forward to watching all of this.
Need some help? I’m bored and could use a working trip to AUS.
How to clean grant tank tip upside down priceless
This bloke is absolutely amazing
At the USMC Air Ground Museum we flipped and SU-76 on her side to sandblast the bottom of the hull. We had to use an old RT forklift and it was quit a job. I don't know how many hours I spent sandblasting the vehicle, inside and out, small parts to huge, but it was a bunch. I can't describe the satisfaction when the final coats of paint went on and I envy you all for the challenges and hard work ahead. If I lived "down under" rest assured I would be reporting for duty to share in the fun.
A restored Grant tank troop ! Now that would be awesome.
Fantastic barn find update. Loved all the info on the bits and pieces and, of course, the tank flip.
wow, someone who has a lot of experience with grant tanks. Congratulations.
The man is a beast dressed up in that heat with a hot torch!
I think you deserve a drink Ron!
I've only done one car and now I can usually tell where a part goes just by looking at it. The knowledge from 13 restorations, I can't imagine.
That’s one way to clean the Grant.
😂
That was brilliant.
I must admit I cringed both times it went over. All's well! She's a tough ol' girl to survive this long and in such beautiful shape. I'm very much looking forward to her being restored to her original condition. Super big hugs to the team!!!
OOOOOOOOOOH YES the continuation , thank you
Lord how I love an expert ❤
I have never seen a man so knowledgeable about any tank. Watching him return it to its original contours was a fascinating process, as well. I was surprised by a couple of things, though: First, that this tank was converted into a tractor but the complete (and I assume de-militarized) main gun and sponson weren't cut off and second, the decision to roll it over with the side door hanging open a d the tin storage box in place. Seems to me that might bend the hinge on the hatch, and it looked like the lid of the box did impact the ground. I'm sure you and your experts know how to handle a tank, but I find myself wishing for an explanation on a few items.
