A 5:03/4:41 negative split is madness... This kid has left everyone else behind. And she followed this up the next day with a 15:28 5K shattering Tuohy's record.
@@jadedbrad she actually is one of these low mileage kids because shes been plagued by injuries in the past so she shifted to a Parker Valby style cross training regiment. even swims on the school swim team in the winter. she runs in the TX state championship meet tomorrow (May 3) and it will be interesting to see if she can set the 1600 record. she already has the 3200 record.
Elizabeth Leachman is an amazing runner. She is physically built for xc running and apparently has the discipline to exploit it. She has such a great future ahead of her.
Dang, these young ladies are ripped. Great race! Leachman really outclassed the pack with a slow build and a smooth, powerful finish. Great things are ahead of her.

In the Olympics runners who are being lapped move to the outside to let faster runners pass them on the inside. Could they please teach this in High School athletics.
@@hyatguy There's too many in the race there should only be half the amount of runners on the track and why are they all practically wearing the same generic outfit and not their athletic club or States colors?
Zariel Macchia was the frontrunner in the beginning, but ran an unwise strategy of expending too much energy leading for the first few laps and speeding up anytime a runner tried to pass her. That ended when the running phenom Leachman passed her. What an incredible race by Leachman. She wisely conserved energy in the beginning of the race hanging back in the middle of the pack, and then made her move to the front decisively. I also applaud the courage and guts of the great tall runner who came in 2nd place, Jane Hedengren. Man, she gave it her all, and stuck with Leachman's insanely fast pace almost to the end. She finished with a great time, and probably ran a personal best. What a fun race to watch!
@@SEGAraid yeah I noticed that. I’m like wow what is she doing for training? It is so natural for Elizabeth. I want her as my daughters personal trainer
That girl displayed a very high rate of leg turnover. Did not look like a 2 mile run. Also: that announcer is the best they can come up with? He didn't do much except recite the competitors' names. It'd be hilarious to hear him try to announce the first lap of an Formula 1 race.
Some wondering running from the girls!! Leachman for sure will be running faster and faster. She seems to run effortlessly with her endurance and turnover. I'm surprised Saddie Englehardt is not joining this race...
@@andyc.4387 Well I wouldn't know that but many of the commentators make stuff up as they go along or simply just don't know. I guess it's about par for the course in so many different sports.
Please tell us Elizabeth has been picked up for the US Olympic team? We've all seen her out run collegiate women's runners in other meets. There's no way USOC can be stupid enough to deny her
In the USA they are not classified or selected in athletics in that way, and they still do not meet the World Athletic classification requirements, neither by minimum nor by world ranking. Minimum notes 1,500 meters: 4:02.50 5,000 meters: 14:52.00 10,000 meters: 30:40.00

Later this year she even ran sub 15:25 Touhy had to run indoors which is more difficult because of air quality and lapping other runners
A negative split is a smart way to run a race. What kind of training allows her to recover so fast for another major effort the next day?

Leachman is a sophomore phenom who will shatter all of Tuohy’s high school track records. So excited about her future.
doubtful
I live in her town. She is an amazing runner.
Tuohy never had someone chasing her like Leachman had during this race.
Hence, Tuohy would have run faster. Just like her record 3000M@@Oooooo-xi2mx
Could be, but I think she'll be chasing Sadie Engelhardt's records at that point.
Elizabeth is a beast!!!! What incredible talent!!!!!! My faves: Tuohy. Valby. Leachman!!!🌟🌟🌟
Plus Grace Ping?

Anyone can be built for running if they put the work into it.

Mary Cain's record is 9:38.68. Elizabeth's 9:44.16 puts her second, ahead of Natalie's 9:44.44.
Leachman got awesome smoke in her shoes! She's phenomenal! The record books are slowly burning down...

I think her hamstrings are made of elastic. Absolutely incredible how long her stride is, for a relatively short build.

The Olympic runners don't have to do that. Better to stay on the inside and let them run around you. Less nonsense.
