An overview of Stuart Hall's 1980 model of mass communication. This is the only theory we'll look at that can be classified under the Cultural Studies approach to media communication.
I'm glad you explained the Encoding and Decoding of Broadcast Structures very well. Every other source I've found seemed to ignore that diagram and just talked about the four-staged model of production, circulation, use, and reproduction.
In my Communications course, the reading by Stuart Hall on encoding and decoding had me totally baffled. This gave me a new perspective on it and I feel I can tackle the reading again. Great video, thanks!
Thank you for your video! This helped me a lot to understand the essence of Hall's theory and model. I have a presentation on this topic on Tuesday, so feel more secure now in explaining it to others. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video, i cant explain how greatful i am to come across it, its extremly helpful. i am definately passing my exam of sociology of communication, going back to school after 12years in a foreign country and language is like hell for me. Thanks once more
I absolutely love this video! Thank you for being so thorough. However, I do have a comment to the graphic you show at 13:50-15:30 - in Halls own document, the arrows actually do go from "text" towards "audience" and not the other way around.
Hi Charlie, Have you written articles or a book? I have found these lecture videos so helpful that I wouldlike to be able to reference you in my Masters.
Hi Charlie! Thanks again for the great videos! Could you help me with some scholars name and hopefully their works on criticisms of the encoding/decoding theory? Thank you very much!
Thank you for making this! A lot easier to understand than Stuart Halls text.
