      I've already seen plenty of people not liking Egghead, even though it is regarded as one of the best arcs of the new world, perhaps the best
      So you're right, no matter what Oda does, it's impossible to create an ending that everyone will love

      people being satisfyed =/= it being good.
      plenty of acutal bad writing is praised becasue it felt satisfying at the moment *cough*wano*cough*
      simiilary a lot of great writing isn't talked about because it isn't some big satisfying moment (granted i can't think of examples IN one piece)

    I think it helps that Oda is essentially working from the end backwards. I recall reading Hirohiko Araki's book and him mentioning the most important element was staying on their "golden road" and I believe Oda is staying on that path.

      Yeah, like we have a good idea what the next arcs and final battles will be in some capacity. The main themes and ideas of the ending were probably there from the start of the series.

    • @chrismic8087

      Araki said after part 8 ended that, although it was difficult, he was very satisfied he managed to make the ending he always wanted. Sure it could've been executed better at some points, but part 8 is far and away the most thematically tight narrative Araki has ever written. Having a central theme and fleshing things out from inside it to form a story is great storytelling, and it's how Oda was able to introduce a concept such as Nika so late into the game and make it pivotal and satisfying to read.

    • @jmanjman2685
      @jmanjman2685 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There was almost no focus for most of part 8. Sure it has its peaks but Araki clearly did not know in which direction he wanted to go sometimes. Also he didn't know how to end this. Part 8 is the Wano arc of JoJo.@@xanderjames6260

      Grouping all Mangaka into one category simply bc they all create anime is foolish. Every author isn’t the same. Oda already said OP was initially going to end around Alabasta, so while he may have known the ending when he first began, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t had to improvise or make changes due to the fact we’re 1000 chapters in & popularity soared@@acrane3496

    I do think Oda will swing back to the Strawhats in the end. Nami is really the only one that concerns me because drawing a map of the world doesn't really feel feasible in context of the story we have. But if the geography of the world entirely changes by the end of the story perhaps that is why Oda has neglected showing us that because she will be the one to continue her journey through that new world Luffy leaves behind.

    On the topic of oda saving fights, I think bleach is a good comparison who did the opposite. I remember having a lot of hype around Gotei 13 die after the Aizen arc. It always felt like they were supposed to be a core part of the power structure that got demoted into side characters because they got revealed way too early.
    So although it’s VERY ANNOYING, I think was quite essential for a long story such as one piece to have the infamous silhouettes, late ability reveals and offscreen

    • @troillandford7679
      @troillandford7679 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Furthermore, the gotei beeing revealed early made the story suffer what I’d call the TRAFALFGAR EFFECT. Similar to when fans would rather see more of Law diminishing the main cast, the gotei did the same thing of diminishing the bleach crew of chad, orohime and ishida

    • @difficiliscarere9838
      @difficiliscarere9838 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Bleach world building had me thinking that Aizen be the big bad and his defeat ended the series for me (in a good way). Just couldnt get into it again after.. Feels like a lot of shonen have their story set but after becoming hugely succesful they have to add stuff that comes out of nowhere. One piece realy be the exception in that regard.

    • @escribalma_h
      @escribalma_h 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      The conflict with Aizen should've lasted more and so give the chance for the captains and and vice-captains to slowly have significant and more hype moments as side characters and also fleshing out more the main cast which is one of Kubo's main weaknesses.
      To go from Hueco Mundo straight into Katakura and Aizen's defeat in retrospective feels rushed and to draw from the point that we've always known who are going to be the main actors in the finale of One Piece, the Quincy should've been made relevant way earlier so the Thousand Year War seemed like a natural conclusion to the story.

    • @troillandford7679
      @troillandford7679 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@escribalma_hYES. Ishida was clearly going to be the “sasuke” of the series, I actually loved him more than ichigo for the first hundred chapters then he just kinda disappeared until the last arc. On the subject of foreshadowing, it was always clear to me that quincies were going to be part of the series, but it didn’t really land that well since they weren’t fleshed out enough. Like apart from being opposite to reapers there’s nothing much that alludes to who they were and where they are in the power structure. As opposed to the god knights in one piece where it makes sense that the celestials have their own military, nothing much to say there but is intriguing nonetheless and alludes to potentially interesting narratives.

    • @troillandford7679
      @troillandford7679 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@difficiliscarere9838but the thing is quincies we’re introduced very early on in the series much like the warlords of one piece. I remember just craving for Quincy lore each arc and knowing that they were going to be integral to the plot somehow and with ishida being set up as the rival to ichigo. So I definitely think that kubo knew he was going that TYBW route, he’s problem was consistency.
      Although an interesting afterthought is that maybe kubo lacked the time to focus on story implementation and compensated by drawing very detailed fights as opposed to Oda’s offscreen no mi. It was reported that kubo suffered a burnout multiple times during his publishing years. So maybe there is a correlation to time spent on fights and offscreen vs. Consistency?

    I believe Oda will pull through with his ending. You can tell he always cared about the ending of One Piece & essentially built his world around the end. The only thing I am scared about is the backlash he might get due to the fact that I doubt it will satisfy everyone who doesn’t love the themes of one piece. Anything besides that I see Oda nailing. I cant imagine how he wants to do Nami's conclusion and have it not be half assed. I genuinely have no idea. But as it goes, I'll just put my faith in him and his craft, and enjoy the story as it is for however long it will take.

    Even if it has the perfect ending, perfect last few chapters and all. I am scared of the last and greatest war. Oda doesn't do well when so much action is going on, Onigashima was a low point in the series for many. Coupled with his loved of raising stage, aka Onigashima falling with random bombs on the bottom and the Kazenbo fire spirit, the bird cage, etc.

    Oda has confirmed to have planned the ending even before he drew the first ink on the first panel. That is almost a guarantee of a decently planned ending. With that in mind it kind of does indicate that the last fight wouldn't feature IMU since I believe they were conceptualized 20 years into the manga. Which is good imo. That would just mean it's either Shanks, Blackbeard or Akainu. I really do not want the last opponent to be a 'Kaguya', if people get that reference.

      @@ratedr7845 First of, I didn't say that I didn't want IMU to fight. I absolutely want them to have a battle vs Luffy and know everything about IMU. Secondly, 900 chapters and the main antagonist suddenly appears? Idc how good Oda is, that thing isn't going to fly as 'being planned all along' after the Gorosei were written as the highest form of authority for twenty years. That's like if Oda suddenly says there are four other pirates that are stronger than the Yonko.
      And last but not least, what's with your attitude of wanting to insult someone online over a non-aggressive opinion? Are you ODA himself and know exactly how the story is going to turn out?

      ya, well... That's the wise take. Twenty years of expectations and hype for the series have made our expectations sky high. I think people want the One Piece to be something unthinkable, something so complex and beautiful and amazing that you can tell they took 5+ years to think about how to do it perfectly.
      Buuuuuut I'm afraid that it won't play out that way... There will be people who love the ending, and those who are indifferent, or disappointed, or pissed.. There will be people suggesting ways it can be improved, and people will try to tear them to shreds. It'll be a whirlwind.. in every area we've been waiting: Mihawk's battle, Shanks, Elbaf, etc. etc.
      The Dawn is coming for these characters, yeah, but it'll be a little more chaotic for us.

    I really hope when we’re at the end and we finally see Luffy vs Imu we truly get a 1 v 1 battle of will against will. We see this reoccurring theme of luffy gaining victories because of others helping him. Whether it be covering for him while he recovers his strength or haki or like how the samurai injured kaido before luffy fought him, I feel like this final battle truly needs to rest on just luffy. I think it’d be a more powerful narrative since it’s always been luffy fights for his friends so his friends help him win to luffy is fighting for everyone’s freedom and only he alone as Nika can bring that freedom.

    I think people have a problem subverting expectations. Game of Thrones is a great example of how much damage a truly bad ending can do to an entire franchise. Thankfully One Piece fans aren’t so deep into their own theories that they create an alternate reality around said narrative. *coughraidfails* Jokes aside, that’s why I think it’s important for us as a fanbase to be happy with what we get.
    Maybe the One Piece isn’t the journey we had along the way, but it sure feels great that the journey was part of it.
