  • The LÖTSCHENTAL is a valley full of tales and mysteries! It hosts some of Switzerland’s most beautiful villages and raw sites. This is a place, where you can taste Switzerland in its most original form: Lonely villages with a few hundreds of people living in traditional wooden houses. Also this valley is well known for its unique tradition - the TSCHÄGGÄTTÄ. This native cultural performance attracts many people around Switzerland and even the world to come to watch it. There are even people who come here for studying it! Every year, in the night of ‘Fat Thursday’, the villages of the Lötschental are haunted by the scary Tschäggättä that march from BLATTEN to Ferden. This event is one of the cultural highlights of Switzerland that is unforgettable! The subsequent carnival on the following Saturday in the village of WILER VS is another chance to watch the Tschäggättä roaming around. However, then you also will have other groups that are part of the carnival.
    Besides beautiful villages and a unique culture, the Lötschental is the site of dreamy sunsets. Whether you are down in the valley or up in the Lauchernalp, on a sunny day, you will see the summits changing their colors from glowing yellow to purple! Such a spectacle is in particular nice, when you come here during winter!

    The snow makes it really look like wonderland.

      Hehe, indeed, it helps to make it look more attractive, especially the sunset part in the end was in particular amazing because of the snow :)

    This is so wonderful. The snow was very thick! It's like a white blanket or pillow on the roof of wooden houses. Furthermore the culture performance is very interesting! Very unique! Never heard about it.
    Maybe at the night it will be lil bit scary for me hehehe...:) Did they make the costum by themself?
    Djemo, thank you for presenting this native culture of Switzerland ;)

      Hi Dina. Thank you :) Yup, there was quite a good amount of Snow during that day, despite the last winter was really disappointing overall. The culture is really amazing, it's less scary than it seems. They scare you but they are joking at the same time :) The costume, I am not sure if it is made by them. They had a lot of fun with my friend. Especially in the restaurants :)

      @@DjemoGraphic Thank you for your kind reply, Djemo. In the restaurant with the scary costum?? To order food? hehehe...
      Actually there are another traditional culture/Tradition of Switzerland, that I would like to see :
      * Swiss cow parade
      * Alpine horn festival
      Sadly I couldn't find the right time to see both during my holiday in Switzerland. Hope, I still have chance 🙏

      @@justinagritzan These 2 Festivals, I wanted to cover. Sadly, the Alphornfestival was cancelled :( The Cow Parade I am figuring out, there is a chance that it may take place :) Yes, they enter the restaurants and then they will entertain the guests. In Switzerland, this is one of the very central elements in our culture that it takes place not only outside but also inside the restaurants. Same goes for the Chläus in Appenzell and the guys during Luzerner Fasnacht :)

      @@DjemoGraphic, I am curious whether Silvesterchlausen will be held on 13 Jan. Alphornfestival, I always want to see live:)! Besides the beautiful villages, Swiss culture is always amaze me, very much :)

      @@justinagritzan I still have an open booking at Herisau for the Neusilvesterchlausen. I shall give the hotel a call soon and ask, whether it is going to happen at all or not. I assume it will be cancelled. I don't think there will be any carnival either; maybe Tschäggättä if the vaccination advances fast enough. About the Alphornfestival and -treff I am a lot more hopeful, as they are going to take place during summer. Yup, we have similar interests. For me traditional lifestyle, history and culture are things I admire a lot.

    This village is similar to another one from your previous movies but I don't remember to which one. But in the other one there were no scary creatures :P

    • @DjemoGraphic
      @DjemoGraphic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! It's similar to Grimentz. All villages in the Kanton of Wallis/Valais are similar. The scary Tschäggättä are only native to the Lötschental. This unique tradition a blend of folklore, pagan and Christian culture :)
