I wasn't familiar with her until I started watching Brooklyn 99 - so I just assumed that Rosa's voice was Stephanie's voice. Shocked the hell out of me when I heard her speak out of character for the first time. She's very talented.
There are actually a few moments in the show where you hear her normal speaking voice comes out. Like when she talks back to a detective called "The Vulture" in one of the earlier episodes.
You can actually hear it in the first few episodes of B99. Her voice is still a bit squeaky there, but around Jason’s funeral, she already masters the deep Rosa voice
I feel like that roll is perfect for a semi-drastic change to your voice, rather than just “doing a voice”. Rosa obviously has a lot of lines considering she’s one of the main characters, but her lines are always short and to the point. It’s not often that she goes on a long monologue or anything like that.

I started listening to a Wondery podcast about the Twin Flames group and I had to make sure it was the same Stephanie Beatriz because I was so used to her B99 voice. 😂. She’s a great podcast host, btw.
The deep voice does actually take practice to do all the time. I used to have a pretty high voice but when I started practicing a deeper raspier voice (mostly cause I really like Dempsey’s voice from zombies) that shit made my throat sore the first few times. The throat is like a muscle where the more you do something the longer and more range you can have. I can totally believe that she did not have that shit figured out at the start of the show. And she didn’t. At the start her voice was way higher than towards the middle and end. Very impressive range honestly in my experience at least.
