I'm 70 years old. Having been a recording engineer for most of my life, I can't say enough about Steven Wilson's outstanding mixes. Thank you so much Steven for updating these tracks by enhancing the clarity and detail without messing up the vibe with useless effects. It's so wonderful listening to these songs again through your thoughtful genius. It's like looking at a treasured old master's painting that's been lovingly restored. You are most awesome!! Bravo Gentle Giant!!
Gary looks like he is 15 years old! One of my favorite guitar player ever! Gentle Giant was such an awesome band, I listen to their music almost every day more than 40 years later.
Every time I am off doing other things, engaged in other daily life events and then I come upon a song and video footage like this of Gentle Giant in their glory it just smacks me upside of my head how absolutely amazing this band was and what a privilege it was to see them in concert and listen to their incredible music for all of these years. They were/are mind blowing.
Absolutely! I was fortunate to see them 3 times as the back-up band for Jethro Tull in the early 70's. Some of my best memories, and it's good to know there are others out there who share such memories. I have never run into anybody who has even heard of GG. Sad.
@@davidabrinton I saw GG three times and without a doubt those were some of the greatest musical evenings of my life. If I hear a Giant song now (like on TH-cam) I actually get choked up. What amazing memories.
Amazing song on an amazing album. GG is more popular today than during their 10 year tenure of the 70's. Better late than never! The best damn live band, period!
Amazing!!!!!The most invaluable progressive rock band in the history of rock music. They were as good as humanity was not ready to hear their music. Fantastic musicians I love them and Steven Wilson.
This is, no doubt in my mind, one of the greatest GG songs, if not the greatest. The sound is crystal clear and the image is pristine. Thank you M. Wilson for your talent and passion.
@@mariolafrance5806 ok, I'm sorry for being a wise guy. Taste is pretty much subjective and the intro to this song is very interesting and nice to say the least. Id agree with that. Have a great year, fella!
Great stuff. Super audio mix. I saw GG perform this track as their finale in Sheffield City Hall in May 1976. Sadly the hall was only half full. I had just bought the Interview album and already had I Lost My Head in my mind as the stand-out track. I recall Derek Shulman introducing the song saying it was from Interview and I shouted out “I Lost My Head” as they hadn’t played it yet in the set, and sure enough that’s what they played. It was a good track to have in your ears as we left the gig.
God damn this video is so clear. Thank you endlessly. Kerry is the most magical being to bless this planet. Thank you Giants, bless you, rest in peace Raymond.
This is AMAZING ! Been a fan of Gentle Giant since 1975 ! Never had the chance to see them live but , man, there is nothing that sounds like this. Pure musicianship, talent and love,
They were amazing to see live! Multi-instrumentalists, switching places, not missing a beat! And their acapella vocals were simply the best. Only got to see them once in 1976, but it is still one of my most memorable live shows! ❤
I saw them in Boston.. Try to imagine how insanely great they’d be live. Got it??? Now multiply it by 10. 😳😳😳 The same date in Boston, I could’ve gone to see GG or Genesis ( Peter Gabriel was still in the band)
These guys are not kidding. Their technical prowess was unmatched, but it wasn't simply chopsmanship: the music was just SO good, so unique, so lyrical and beautiful and rocking...they were without a doubt the best live prog band of all time.
I saw them in NYC in Nov 1975 at the old Academy of Music by 14th Street. Insanely intense, on point and in your face they had more instrument change ups of any band I had ever seen. Their technical skill was unmatched.
Among the great prog bands that I love, GG will ALWAYS have pride of place! Great to see them rocking out and showing how versatile they are. Please keep this videos coming. Actually a video compilation dvd would be a great idea and best seller for GG fans. RIP Ray...always in thoughts! ❤
What a cool and genius song, pure creativism in the Giant style as always, but is really solid and catchy in the prog terms! this is my 20 time that I listen in the last 7 days.....Epic!!!
I’m a schooled musician ( Berklee), composer, arranger and producer. Also, a Grammy member, (producer and engineers wing) “No, JM isn’t my real name” Gentle Giant is one of the best and talented bands that’s ever come along. I'm a life-long musician myself, and there are a handful of irreplaceable concerts I've attended. Gentle Giant is absolutely among them. In fact, if I had to chose just one that I could relive via a time machine, it would likely be GG at the Shrine in L.A.
@@jupiterlegrand4817 I was at that show too. It was amazing! A great memory. Seeing them switch out instruments and the singing with the complicated arrangements was so much fun. Blew my little brain. They played with Renaissance (I think) and they were better.
I was at the Shrine Auditorium show and it was amazing. I saw them live 7 or 8 times around LA. The first time was when they did a week long gig at The Whisky A Go Go in 1973. I saw 3 shows that week and was blown away.
This song has been on rotation for the last two years since I've discovered how brilliant this band was. Every intricate note expresses something holy. Thank you for inserting this magic in our lives
It is funny that it seems no one commented on how wonderful is Kerry's singing. Derek has the power, but the gentle intro is just beautiful. My favorite Kerry vocal piece is "A Reunion" from "In A Glass House.
Wow, many thanks for the remix, synching the video to a live concert, am sure it was quite a challenge. I saw Gentle Giant first at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, and then the Riviera and Uptown Theaters in Chicago. They composed and performed at musical standards that were extremely high, eclectic, and from baroque to rock and roll. And my whole family back in the day loved their records too. Talking three generations. To see this again live is quite a treat. Our sympathies to Ray and his extended family on his passing. I am sure he'd be delighted.
That Great Gentle Giant Groove! Fortunate to have seen them 3 times. Opening for Tull on 1972 TAAB tour, opening for Foghat on 1974 Freehand era and FINALLY headlining on their last tour 1980. Civilian tour. That last show was astonishing. 2 1/2 hours of intense GG. Did a lot of the early stuff.
Tull with TAAB and GG on the same bill. I can't even wrap my head around that! Saw them both separately (GG three times actually), but man...both at the same show? It would almost be too much!
Increíble documento audiovisual. Es muy grato poder escuchar a Gentle Giant con la excelente remezcla de Wilson y verlos en este video que captura en su mera esencia la genialidad musical del Gigante Gentil. Derek, Ray, Kerry, Gary y John "Pugwash" eran unos verdaderos Titanes. ¡Larga vida a Gentle Giant!
Wonderful comments below from all these people. GG were massively underrated and under-appreciated in their time for their incredible, complex, beautiful creations but, also, the other thing we need to remember, is that they were SERIOUSLY FUNKY with it!!!
