So they threw a young QB in a horrible situation. But sometimes you can learn from failure, become wiser and better, and wait for your next opportunity and embrace it - and Geno did. I hope it continues to work out for him and the team. The seahawks have the right culture for QBs and other players castoff by other teams to succeed. People seem to forget they used to do the same thing for players as well - get them cheap, change the role to one they could succeed in, and go from there. Sometimes it doesn't work or takes a while. Glad Geno is getting some reward for all those 2nd team snaps.

Pete has a college mentality when it comes to quarterback. When Geno Smith was signed in 2019, he was a red shirt freshman for Pete Carroll. Pete knew he could play. In Smith's Junior year, Russell went down with finger injury and Pete saw potential from Geno. Geno's got the starting job in his senior year. And he is thriving under Pete's system. Now back to professional world, Geno lost his starting job to Ryan Fitzpatrick in New York and the Jets never gave him another chance. The Giants signed him and the Chargers singed him. But he never got the chance behind Eli Manning and Philip Rivers. After Seahawks signed him, he continued to learn from Russell Wilson. When the QB is in the system for three to four years as a backup, you start to realize and understand that you can do the job. Pete knew that when he traded away Russell. It's Geno time.

Too many loud-mouthed fans are the emotional ones who don't think. The ones that think Russ is a HOF QB because of team wins - not his real stats. The Broncos definitely lost this trade even in the long run. Here’s why, the Broncos are going to have to trade some assets to recover some lost draft picks. Some good players that can help out Russ will be gone and the team will suffer. Also, by the time those draft picks come around in another two to three years Russ will have reached an age where his mobility will be very limited unlike when he first came in the league much in line to RCs point. That is his game. He unable to be a pocket QB and we are seeing that right now. The Hawks absolutely fleeced the Broncos.
YES - Pete has always been the type of coach to identify a player's strengths (and weaknesses) and put the player in a position to compete. That is his core philosophy. If you watch Russ' college tape, Wisconsin was a run-first then play-action team, and that's what he was good at and that's what Seattle did for him. They brought in a new OC that has a system (note - it isn't 'Pete's system' on offense) that emphasizes lots of mis-direction, short passing and opportunistic running - which isn't Russ' style. Geno embraces the system created to put him in a position to succeed and does. Russ wanted to be in the conversation with Brady and Rogers, wanted to be an MVP more than win games. But it isn't working for him. We've seen this happen with other QBs, particularly those that had their running skills to rely on when young. NOTE - commentator says same thing! Russ is not a timing QB, he's an improviser (and so holds the ball longer also). And yes, if Seahawks offense can continue to execute while the defense gets better than they should win more games. It's a long season, so injuries may play a big role.
Russ Wilson will pull it together and Broncos still won the trade. Geno is playing phenomenal and us Seahawk fans are fortunate that mature Geno has command of this offense and weapons at WR, TE and RB. Let's not forget we actually drafted an O-line which is something we never did for Russell and Walker is a killer RB and Penny was killing it before he went down....offense well-balanced, defense coming on decently. If we continue in this manner and barring injury to one of our key players we will be playing in the playoffs.....need DK back soon

Ryan Clark is the smartest man in football. It's not just Geno. The game changed 2 weeks ago when the defense stepped up. Pete has recreated the team he had 11 years ago, quick, hungry, and teachable. Same as he did on the college level.

Even as a Saints fan, I have nothin' but mad respect for Pete and what he's been able to do even when he had really bad teams. Hell they're basically rebuilding and are still doing way better than people expected and I'm willing to put at least 75% of that on Coach Pete and the rest on the 53 man roster.

Hurtt is a dude and he's managed to coach the defence from worst in the league to absolute studs and Shane is dialling up some fantastic plays that play to everyone strengths. With the exception of the Bill's and Chiefs, the league is being dominated right now by Jalen Hurts, the Giants with Jones, the Jets with Wilson, GINO SMITH!! The Vikings! The typical teams that are good (Patriots, Steelers, Saints, Ravens) all suck. Almost everything is turned upside down from last year. It's a strange year so far.

The Broncos definitely lost this trade even in the long run. Here’s why, the Broncos are going to have to trade some assets to recover some lost draft picks. Some good players that can help out Russ will be gone and the team will suffer. Also, by the time those draft picks come around in another two to three years Russ will have reached an age where his mobility will be very limited unlike when he first came in the league much in line to RCs point. That is his game. He unable to be a pocket QB and we are seeing that right now. The Hawks absolutely fleeced the Broncos.

Everyone needs a system that fits them. Look at Brady, he's not so dominant after a change of coach.

YES - Pete has always been the type of coach to identify a player's strengths (and weaknesses) and put the player in a position to compete. That is his core philosophy. If you watch Russ' college tape, Wisconsin was a run-first then play-action team, and that's what he was good at and that's what Seattle did for him. They brought in a new OC that has a system (note - it isn't 'Pete's system' on offense) that emphasizes lots of mis-direction, short passing and opportunistic running - which isn't Russ' style.
Geno embraces the system created to put him in a position to succeed and does. Russ wanted to be in the conversation with Brady and Rogers, wanted to be an MVP more than win games. But it isn't working for him. We've seen this happen with other QBs, particularly those that had their running skills to rely on when young. NOTE - commentator says same thing! Russ is not a timing QB, he's an improviser (and so holds the ball longer also).
And yes, if Seahawks offense can continue to execute while the defense gets better than they should win more games. It's a long season, so injuries may play a big role.

Geno is playing phenomenal and us Seahawk fans are fortunate that mature Geno has command of this offense and weapons at WR, TE and RB. Let's not forget we actually drafted an O-line which is something we never did for Russell and Walker is a killer RB and Penny was killing it before he went down....offense well-balanced, defense coming on decently. If we continue in this manner and barring injury to one of our key players we will be playing in the playoffs.....need DK back soon
We drafted plenty OL in the Wilson era, it’s just his play style will make every OL look bad because he is uncomfortable in the pocket
The problem with ESPN analytics is they are ignoring recent changes and taking in the whole scope of the season. They are also ignoring that this team has lost and didnt let it get them down. They have grown all season and will continue to grow.
