I bought a Centeral Machinery 4" x 36" belt sander in 1995 and, when the motor burned out 12/13 years later, just went and bought another one as just a replacement motor from Grainger was about 4/5 times the cost of the entire replacement belt sander from HFT. Now, it looks like, the next time I have to replace my Central Machinery model, I'll be taking a close look at their new Bauer brand model.

_...and, when the motor burned out 12/13 years later..._ From the customer reviews I read on the product page of this Bauer sander, it looks like it won't last *13 days,* let alone years.

It's *your* money, brother. Trust me, I would POUNCE at the notion of an attractively priced quality tool, but please tell me if reviews with these titles inspire confidence:
      ● *Do Not Buy*
      ● *Already dying*
      ● *Would not buy!*
      ● *Died after 6 uses*
      ● *Returning it tomorrow*
      ● *Switch broken with 5th use*
      ● *DOA* (two reviews have this subject line, actually 🙂)
⬆︎- and this, mind you, is just a filtered list of only the negative reviews citing longevity/durability problems and not other issues, which are also present.
But hey, if you happen to have bought one and can confirm that it fared well in the long run, I'd happily eat my words and buy one myself.

Thanks for the Buaer belt sander review. I have the old central Machinery belt sander, which while it generally gets the job done the rough running belt dosen't do much for a positive user experience. As is usual, with a lot of Harbor Frieght tools, "modifications" have to be made to get them to "work/conform/perform" with (general) industry standards. Your mention of "smooth running" caught my ear. I'll have to check it out. Thanks. The fact that Harbor Frieght has upped their game on a lot of their power tools is a big plus and it keeps them in consideration when I'm shopping for a new power tool.

I bought one when they first came out. I'm a hobby woodworker and don't need it often but often enough to justify the cost. It's quite handy in my little shop space.

Great review - thank you. It looks like the Bauer model is exactly the same as the Performax 4.3A belt sander you'd find at Menards and the Grizzly G0787. Also the Dewalt Stealthsonic shop vac fits the dust port perfectly and is a huge ear saver compared to my Rigid shop vac.

Look at Zirconium belt for them. Much longer lasting and good for stainless.

I’m only asking because I want to buy one today but do you really think you were putting 25 pounds of downward pressure on that to stall it? That’s about three 10lb pound dumbbells, it didn’t look like your arm was straining that much.

Here in the UK. This belt sander comes in several different branded names and colours but it's all the same. However the price can be double for the same thing.
Mine was £99 now. it's almost £200 new. That's the cost living bs
    Long time sub ❤
