Thumbs up! What a great video. LOVED IT. New to your channel. Keep up the excellent work. Great stuff I am seeing. Love the sigs and slabs. Cool all around, later on Jay
Great video my friend…that Schmidt auto looks good to me🤙🏽
I agree - I’m going to eventually send that into PSA for a second (third?? 😂) opinion whenever they have an encapsulation special.
Thanks for watching, LouRok!
I love the video and your idea! I’m going to try this. Very inexpensive, but entertaining way to collect autos.
It definitely has its risks! But also, I think I still came out ahead on this one, considering what slabbed authenticated autos sell for vs unslabbed unauthenticated ones. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely awesome Chief Petty Officer Feller auto!
There may be more signed cards of Bob Feller out there than unsigned ones!
😂😂😂
Thanks for watching, Jon!
Love the bowling cards!
Haha, yeah 1990 Kingpins are great! I know that’s not most of my subscribers’ thing, but I do like them, and it’s my channel! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for watching!
So many great autographs and really cool on the diamond kings. The Schmidt definitely looks legit. When you turned it at the right angle I could see it looked liked the card was almost etched from the pen pushing down too hard. I wonder if he had to push too hard with the pen he was using and it failed just because of that. They have it listed as one of their 50 reasons to fail not including the blank line. Lol Nice return regardless
Yeah, I’m definitely getting PSA’s opinion on that one. Someone else in the comments thinks it’s a clubhouse auto maybe through TTM, but I’m not sure. Thanks for watching, Joe!
Nice Duke and Weber. “Who do you think you are I am!!”
@@HighPopProfessor Idk if I mentioned it but I was in the crowd that day. Who knew that would become like the biggest bowling clip
NO WAY!! 🤯🤯🤯 Wasn’t that outburst directed at like a 12-year old kid who was pseudo-heckling him? Amazing!
@@HighPopProfessor it’s the bowling alley I bowl at and it was my first time seeing pros bowl, so I was a deer in headlights. However, it was drop dead silent when these guys went and I didn’t even hear or see what was bothering him. I also heard the rumors (a kid), but I can’t confirm.
I can’t say I’ve been to watch a big PBA event, but I did get to see Mike Scroggins coaching his son back when I was a high school bowling coach in Texas. I walked by him and then basically did a double take, thinking to myself, “Wait, was that just…?” I introduced myself and told him I was a fan and he seemed like a great guy.
If you just want them encapsulated send them to Cga out of Kentucky. They are cheap take forever but look awsome.
Yes, I know they have JSA working with them now, and I love the clarity of the CSG slab (I don’t have any newer CGC slabs). I will 100% consider this moving forward - I just don’t know what they charge to authenticate and encapsulate. Thanks for the recommendation, Big Ed!
That Schmidt may be autopen, he is known to use that.
Interesting! I’ve seen some good stuff out there showing how to tell autopen signatures. “Zarelli space authentication” has a great video detailing the telltale signs of what to look for in an autopen sig and I’ve used that as a resource that’s helped me identify a number of others to avoid. Still, you may be right, Nate! Thanks for watching!
That Schmidt looks like it was TTM. He tended to rush through those much more than in person examples at least back when I did TTMs years ago.
Yeah, I’m going to have to get another opinion on that one. It still looks good to me! Thanks for watching, The Drew!
@@HighPopProfessorHe has been having people sign his mail his whole career and life. I read on a message board (I am sure it can be Google'd) where someone sent him an item to hia house and received a funky looking signature. At a show in Philly, the person who got it asked him if he signed it and he said that he didn't know who signed it but he admitted that wasn't signed by him.
How do you know YOUR card is the same card you are getting back? I personally don’t trust these grading company’s very easy to switch a card on you and keep your mint card for themselves.
As far as autographed cards, each one is pretty unique. I take pictures of all of them before I send them in, so I don’t have any question that the cards I’m getting back are the same as the ones I sent in. Also, nothing I sent in has a crazy high value, so the incentive to swap it wouldn’t be there, AND these companies have a reputation that they would want to preserve as much as possible, so I highly doubt that this is a concern, even for higher end cards. Good question, though!
Thanks for watching!
@@HighPopProfessor Thanks for reading and answering my question much appreciated! I always thought and heard that an autograph would hurt the value of a card since there is now ink or marker on the card? Any truth to that ? Would someone get a mint rookie card valued at $300 signed?
@@scottleatherman163 Great question! Indeed, that used to be the case exactly. Back in the 90s and before, much, if not most of the hobby thought this way - that getting a rookie card autographed was defacing and “ruining” the card. However, things have drastically changed over the past 2 decades. Modern collectors have now gotten used to seeing and chasing lots of pack pulled autos, especially signed rookie cards in the form or Bowman 1st autos or Rookie Patch Autos from products like National Treasures. These have become some of the biggest chase cards for ultra modern players, and I believe that this trend has popularized getting rookies of other “high population wax” era players’ rookie cards autographed. As for lowering the value, I would look no further than eBay completed sales to see what these “ruined” cards are now selling for. An ungraded 1987 Topps Barry Bonds card can be purchased for about $3, but to get a PSA authenticated signed 1987 Topps Bonds rookie can run $300+. An ungraded Griffey ‘89 Donruss rated rookie can be bought for $5, but the same card signed, slabbed, and authenticated will bring $200. So at the moment, the values of these cards increase drastically when autographed and authenticated. I hope this answers your question!
Thanks for the great follow up question, Scott!
@@HighPopProfessor Thanks again for responding back! I learn something new every day! 👍👍
BAS service needs a lot of improvement. Problems with my last 2 orders as well.
Heck, with the new option of CGC with JSA authenticity, I may look out for THEIR next authentication special! 😂😂😂
What’s the price comparison between PSA and Beckett auto authentication?
So, that’s a complicated question, but I’ll do my best:
If you’re just looking to authenticate and encapsulate, then each company charges a different amount depending on which player you’re trying to authenticate. Players with higher sales values on the secondary market and more counterfeits out there are more expensive to authenticate. Jim Palmer might be $20, Greg Maddux $30, and Willie Mays $50, etc. Both Beckett and PSA/DNA are pretty similar in how much they charge for authenticating the same athlete.
Every so often, the companies will have an authentication special. This past February, Beckett offered a $15 authentication special where they would authenticate and slab any signed card for only $15 per card with a 10 card minimum. I had been saving these cards up for about a year in anticipation of a sale like this, and PSA will have similar sales every once in a while - about once a year.
However, things get tricky if you have multi-signed items or if you want a card dual graded for condition and auto. Those are more expensive. I hope this answers your question!
Schmidt looks like the ghost signed version
Fascinating! I wasn’t aware that Schmidt had a ghost signer at any point. Was this a clubhouse phenomenon or maybe a TTM thing? Now I’m curious! Thanks for watching, Greg!
@@HighPopProfessorcompare the different in the crossing of the T as the end and you’ll see it.
Sorry, that Maddux is definitely fake. Both first and last name look off.
Great other returns. I don't buy un-authenicated autos, but glad to know there are a few real ones out there
Yeah, can’t win ‘em all. My batting average isn’t too bad going for unauthenticated autos, but I wouldn’t recommend others try it - especially for bigger names. No one is probably trying to forge a Rollie Fingers. 🤷♂️
Thanks for watching, Allen!
If you don't have photos of the original participant getting the signature. I don't give any thought to it as added value. I don't believe any autograph on any item unless there is proof of the original individual who got it.
Hey, different strokes for different folks! I personally disagree with what the market is for PSA 10s! I would never pay the “10 Tax” but clearly, plenty of others in the hobby are only too happy and willing to do just that!
I trust my eye for lower value autos, but for higher value guys like Bonds, Jeter, Griffey, etc. who are more likely to be forged, I put my trust in PSA and Beckett as I believe that they get it right WAY more often than they get it wrong. Their “batting average” is acceptably high to me, and the market seems to agree as authenticated & slabbed autos sell for significantly more than raw ones. I personally wouldn’t trust photos in most cases as photoshop and AI have compromised most of those, so again, different strokes 🤷♂️.
Thanks for watching!
For some strange reason I was actually watching when Pete Webber pulled the "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? I AM!!" And found it absolutely HILARIOUS!! The entire thing, the look he gives the trophy, the yelling ...a thing of absolute AWESOMENESS!! That's easily my favorite card ya nabbed. Now I MUST HAVE one!!
I grew up in Baltimore, met Jim Palmer SEVERAL times, and even back then, he tended to sign right across his mug!!
Haha, yeah Leaf actually has Pete Weber signing that full inscription on some of his on card autos and they’re AMAZING… but they’re also like $300 😭. This one was like $13, so I’m happy with that.
And YES, whyyy does Jim Palmer tend to scribble over his face like 99% of the time??? I was patient as heck waiting for this one to pop up on eBay!
Thanks for watching, Bob!
@@HighPopProfessor 13 is about my ceiling on something like that, as it's literally going to be a novelty piece to show on my "Shelf of ODD products"! Maybe hang a 3 window picture frame of his best faces right above and behind it. I don't need no stinking inscription!! I SAW IT LIVE!!!
