- The Reward is a documentary about Jason Lambeth of Painted Blonde Tapes and how to make DIY cassette tapes. Over the course of creating the four part series, How to Make DIY Cassette Tapes, Jason shot over two hours of b-roll. I decided to interview him more deeply about each part of his process of how to make DIY cassette tapes; this is his story.

I'm glad you guys posted this up, I know im like two years late but im happy that I found this video. You guys are awesome. If you guys every do a podcast I would be down to check it out!
Yea I agree I’m REALLY late 😭
Thanks for all the info dude, favorite TH-cam channel
This is awesome. I am slow glad you didn’t let this footage go to waste.
Thanks, Levi. Glad you enjoyed it!
This series has been brilliant mate - definitely going to try stuff out in the UK.
Wow Mike, this video has a very satisfying sense of progression to it, very relaxing, especially with the voice-overs and smooth motion of the hands
Thanks, Dennis! Definitely meant as more of a chill, documentary/podcast style vid. Glad you're digging it. Jason truly is the Bob Ross of the cassette world 🙌
seriously mike, thanks for these videos. i'm applying everything i watched. and thank you Jason too!
Awesome, dude! That's what it's all about 🙌
The scoring board is made by EK Tools Thanks for the great video. I am making my own cassettes for a vinyl documentary.
Very cool! Good luck!
I do make my own music tapes. I get a NOS Type II Maxell XLIIS C-90 and record one vinyl album per side (From the same band) on my Nakamichi deck or my really nice 3 head JVC deck. Then I use my Photoshop template and make the J-Card for it. Sounds incredible, Looks incredible, and preserves the LP from unnecessary scratches from continually playing it.
Thanks so much for doing this Michael. It's really nice to have this as a document. I plan on boring the hell out of my grandchildren with this someday!
Back in my day

that s perfect guys! thanks so much for showing and explaining us that process... i mean, most of the time, artists want to keep it deeply secret🕶
The reward is in the act of doing the thing.
thank you for spreading, some beautiful knowledge.
The stamps are awesome
Great series. I have a question regarding what type of ink you are using for the stamp. I’ve ordered a set of letter stamps and a custom logo stamp as well for my cassette shells. I’m wondering if there’s a specific type of ink that I need to order, or should the one that came with the stamps be okay. I just don’t want the printing to fade. Anyone who’s tried this, please chime in! Peace… ✌🏾
Super cool video very well done! Inspiring to see the artisanal care and quality that goes into making the cassettes.
Thanks, db. This vid was very fun to make and was completely unplanned. Glad it came together! I don't know if you are on Instagram but you can follow Jason on there to see more of this sort of thing @paintedblonetapes
Great Video!! Very informative. I do have a question...don't the tapes come with the Tabs intact already? Because Jason was putting tape on the empty tab spaces. Every tape I ever bought always have the tabs in. Just wondering. I know this is a Great question!! Lol. Guess I don't get it about having to put tape where the tabs are suppose to be.
For some reason, the tapes you get from National Audio Company come with the tabs popped out, to prevent them from being recorded over. Which is kind of a silly reason because you can just put tape over the holes to record on/over them anyway. So when the tabs are out, if you put the tape into a deck, you won't be able to record onto the tape without covering the holes. You could pop out the tabs to a tape you've got and experiment! Thanks for watching, JPC. Glad you dug the video
424 Recording I think it’s just one of life’s great mysteries. No idea why the tabs are gone.
I would imagine that NAC normally produces cassette shells without the tabs since they are a high volume manufacturer for pre-recorded or finished cassettes, which would not normally have tabs to begin with.
Que pintura utiliza para estampar los cassettes?

After you stamp is the ink sensitive? Does it scratch off easily?
I believe it is resilient. Normal use shouldn't make it wear off
Hi. What kind of ink do you use to stamp on the cassette?
ColorBox Pigment Stamp Pads is what I'm using right now
hey, this guy’s taking about my video i think. lol
I'll ask him, Thomas!
where is he ordering these stamps from?

This video is not about tapes, it is about a polygraphy. 'Making tape' should be about magnetic layer deposition.
Tape duplication is so cheap why make them yourself and have worse sound?
It's even cheaper to make them yourself
@@augologo mmmmm...the tape itself isn't, the quality will not be their either using home equipment and ink jet sticker labels...for like $5 more it's all done for you
@@HAHb-zc2dp it's also fun to make them yourself
There is no reason DIY taping would sound bad.
@@hqdefault you're very stupid.plese arn about mastering, generational copying and consumer grade tape decks with no proper noise reduction or other required elements. Yes,I runs recording studio as well as a vinyl and cassette duplication company. Please know that you literally said the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
