Story time kids;
I met my wife of 25 years while I was working as a bouncer. It was a fun bar to work at, and I seldom had to be The Tough Guy. In fact we were encouraged to dance, at least once a night. She always danced with me, I wasn't good, but I wasn't a spaz. When we got the chance we went dancing, I loved moving, and she loved to try and keep up. She was a diabetic, we got married a year after we met because she almost died and I was not willing to miss out on a life with this remarkable woman. We had ups and downs, we fought, we made up, we danced. The day came when her illness took away her ability to dance with me, so I danced for her. I made breakfast, I danced and sang along to our faves. I dusted, or vaccuumed, I danced. I danced to this song for her once or twice. She died last month, it's hard to dance now, but I try. It isn't the same without her smiling and encouraging me. But I will dance, probably not well, certainly not well, but I will dance for her. If there is someone you love, dance with them, dance for them, dance for no reason, dance for every reason. But for God's sake, dance for them before they are gone.

My parents were born in the 1930s. They did not like the music of the 1980s even though I was hooked on the music of that decade! I was 12 in 1980 and my teen years soaked up the music of that decade from Ambrosia to Depoche Mode to Jefferson Starship to Michael Jackson to Huey Lewis and the News to Neil Diamond to ZZ Top!
My parents were of the Geritol Generation, but I am definitely of the Pepsi generation! The music of Michael Jackson and Depoche Mode and Justin Timberlake... rock! The generation and time period make a huge difference!
If I had been born in the time period of my parents, I know that I would be a very different kind of person than I am now! Weird how time can make such an enormous affect upon ones life!
My grandpa was born in 1890 and he knew very little English, and only liked Christian hymn music! I am sure that in his generation, if they heard music from musicians like Melissa Manchester or Barry Manilow or Diana Ross... they might think that such music was full of self pity, and encouraged strange feelings of lonesome and depressing attitudes. I know that my Christian friend Jim Soyk, who is now with the Lord, felt that some of the jazz music of the 1920-30s that encouraged people to feel different emotions and move their bodies differently, was not edifying and of the Lord. He felt that this music was unhealthy for the soul.
Now, from the perspective of today's generation, the jazz music of the 1920s and 30s ---- IS CONSIDERED SO MILD!

I turned 14 in 1982 and my first music album for my phonograph player, was "Thriller" by Michael Jackson! There are so many things that each human being cannot control, like: what ethnicity and cultural heritage one is born into, what one's gender will be, where one is born, which set of parents one inherits in their DNA,... so many variables affect, shape and mold the attitudes, character, personality, and temperament... one develops! My parents DID NOT LIKE the pop culture music of the 1980s! But I did! From Ambrosia to Neil Diamond to ZZ Top... I loved the music of the 1980s! Yet, I know that had I been born in the generation of my parents, in the 1930s, I would be a very different person right now! My parents liked Lawrence Welk, the Osmonds of the 1970s, classical music, older music like George Beverley Shea and Tennessee Ernie Ford church hymns.

This is the first time I have ever posted a blog or anything on the Internet. But I had to this time! And I hope that Justin and others see it. I have loved to dance ever since I was able to walk, so my family says LOL, and my legs were crushed by forklift when I was 30 years old. I worked very hard to be able to walk when the doctors told me I wouldn't be able to, and I proved them wrong! But this is the one song out of so many others that has always lifted my spirits and made me dance more than any other song! And that is something very important to me! Not nearly the same as you...I broke both of my legs and shattered my left foot on Feb. 28th, 1998. After 4 months in casts, I had to learn to walk again. I am proud of you for proving the doctors wrong. I have a disease that causes my entire body to be in pain every moment of the day, but somehow, when I play this song I can push through and dance for a few minutes. Dancing is the body's way of truly showing what we are made of and how much joy it brings to us!!!
